PATRON As one of the founding members of AAA, I feel honored and humbled to be the patron of this prestigiousassociation. The Amcolians Alumni Association is a fraternity of Amcolians, spread across the globe, that works not only for giving backto the community but also for the pride of its alma mater. The year 2018 saw us achieve many new milestones. I had the pleasure of attending the 41st Annual Convention held in Texas, USA from 4th to 8th July, with the aim of projecting the Amcolian cause at the APPNA forum. I had the privilege of meeting all the Amcolians in the US and was able to rekindle the US chapter under the guidance of Dr. Rashid Khan of 3rd MBBS.We have also taken many initiatives of new endeavors for our students in the field of research and clinical collaborations in the form of student electives. We are looking forward to fostering and enhancing clinical training along with medical activities.I am, and will always be, available to all of you for positive support to fulfill the objectives of this highly competent group of professionals.

Dear Amcolians!
Assalam-o-Alaikum!
It is a pleasure to brief the Amcolians
fraternity of the developments and
progress made by Amcolians Alumni
in the last one year.
Since the 14th Annual Scientific
Symposium last April, we have had a
series of educational activities for continuous professional
development of the alumni and the undergraduates.
In this context we had a number of workshops for
undergraduate and postgraduate students with the help
of some of the wonderful Amcolians who have always
been ready to lend their time and share their experience
with their juniors.
Moreover our partnership with APPNA reached new
heights. We had a meeting on 16th December at AM
college in which representatives of NUMS, AAA and
APPNA participated. This was followed by a symposium at
Ayub auditorium the very next day where Senior AAA and
APPNA delegates shared their ideas for collaboration.
Our association too extended its borders this year and I
feel proud to tell you all that we successfully inaugurated
the long awaited Lahore chapter of AAA. I also assure you
that very soon more zonal chapters will be in place to
bring the fraternity closer.
Carrying on with our glorious traditions we hosted a
dinner for our newly promoted Amcolian General Officers.
We are looking forward now towards our upcoming 15th
Annual Symposium which will be taking place at Ayub
auditorium and marks silver jubilee celebration of 13th
MBBS course. A number of officers from 13th MBBS will be
sharing their experience with a large number of
undergraduate and postgraduate students in attendance,
and I am sure the event will benefit us all.

Many professions are based on the sentiment of putting service before self but the
intimacy associated with care giver and receiver of a medical profession is
unmatchable. This doctor patient relationship is multifaceted. Altruism and
empathy, when merged with the quest for knowledge and increasing concern of
saving life, probably becomes the most noble of all sentiments. All these aspects
are of paramount importance to which we should adhere. I welcome you all to
share your thoughts and experience for better patient care and safety. Looking
forward to your participation.
Best regards for all.
As chairman of R&D, it is my aim to inculcate research culture among Amcolians. By
inspiring them to start research projects, to facilitate them and empower them, to
critically appraise the available medical literature and deliver evidence-based care to
their patients; thus paving way for maintaining leading role of AMC in medical
profession in Pakistan. To achieve these goals R&D wing is doing gap analysis to find
deficiencies and opportunities among Amcolians. We are organising lectures,
workshops, seminars, tutorial etc to increase awareness and build capacity of faculty
and trainees. We are collaborating with NUMS at various national and international
bodies to improve the infrastructure for research in AMC and start world class clinical
trials based on ethics and good clinical practice guidelines. We are also planning to
develop SOPs, assure quality standards and design a system to manage multiple
research projects at a time. I look forward to great support from all of you and hope to
achieve our aims as we aspire to give our best back to our Alma Mater.

In an unprecedented move to empower the AAA members, President AAA took the long awaited bold initiative to open up regional chapters starting with Lahore. The AAA Lahore Chapter was inaugurated at a ceremony on 20th October 2018 held at Afzaal Auditorium in CMH, Lahore Medical College and Institute of Dentistry. Amcolians from Lahore and adjoining areas participated in the ceremony which was followed by dinner and a musical evening. Performance of the evergreen Dr Nadeem Yar Khan (4th MBBS), also the focal person for AAA Lahore Chapter aroused a sweet nostalgia which all those present experienced. It was also an occasion for reunion; a lot of old friends met just to catch up on old times. Another highlight of the event was the gracious presence of faculty members some of whom had travelled all the way from Rawalpindi.

Dr Azeem Alam Khan was born in Karachi on 14th
August 1970. He got his initial schooling at La Salle
High School Multan and St Mary's Academy
Rawalpindi. After completing FSc from Sir Syed
College Rawalpindi, he joined AMC as a paying cadet.
Dr Azeem Alam Khan graduated with 13th MBBS in 1994
and started his training in dermatology. In 2001, he
completed MSc in clinical dermatology from the UK. He
then started practice in Dermatology in Islamabad.
Hassan joined PMA on the morning of 1 st March, 1989,
Pioneers -13th MBBS course as MC1285. He had lived
most of his early life in the USA and came to Pakistan
just before his FSc exams. He had not been exposed to
the realities of life and had a very naive view of the
world, this earned him the title “Bhola”. When we joined
PMA, through our grueling routine, our association was
our only solace. Hassan had his toes blue and black, but
with sheer grit and determination he braved it all. This
earned Hassan special respect from our Platoon
Commander, who would then tout Hassan as our role
model.
College days, busy academic life started shortly afterwards. Hassan’s humour kept
everyone around him mirthful. On the fateful night of 21 st April, 1990, Hassan was riding a
bike along with his brother, when he met an accident. Their bike collided with an unlit
broken-down vehicle on an unlit road. His brother was critically injured, while he left us
forever.
He had just celebrated his 19th birthday a month earlier. His brief, yet memorable,
association with us left a deep impact.
Dear Hassan, we surely miss you! May Allah have His mercy on you
Dr Azeem Alam Khan was very fond of travelling, music
and spent most of his free time in international travel.
He had a very high level of respect for his teachers, seniors and mentors and always
prioritised staying in touch with them.
Dr Azeem Alam Khan passed away on 4th Feb 2019 at the age of 48 years. May
Almighty grant him the highest place in Jannah. Aaameen.
