FILMMAKING

A list used by the editor to determine the look of the final version of the film.

EDITION DECISION LIST (EDL)

The location/direction where an actor should look. It can be useful with a pov shot.

EYE LINE

The beginning of a roll of tape.

HEAD

A close-up of some detail in a scene.

INSERT SHOT

A shot from the perspective from one of the characters where the audience sees the scenes from their eyes.

POINT OF VIEW SHOT (POV)

An additional take, after a successful one, as a backup.

SAFETY

This is done before filming to ensure that the film/tape does not contain any scratches or imperfections.

SCRATCH TEST

Filming a scene with less light than what is needed.

UNDEREXPOSURE

Non-sync sound recorded without the camera running; usually recorded to supplement sync.

WILD SOUND

A wooden box used to raise equipment; an early version of a tripod.
