Remember personification makes things human. It gives human qualities to things that are not human. Think of the word ‘person’ to letyou know it will have human-likebehavior or traits.

1.Why did Oscar Wilde use personification in this story?You feel and picture the seasons with warmth or harsh coldness as they are attached to human traits… you can even feel shivering with cold when Winter shows up. Winter is connected to the cold heart of the Selfish Giant.

5. Why did the Giant have a change of heart?He realized why Winter would not leave his garden. His heart was cold and mean. He was sorry for his selfishness. I think this happened because he met the child in the tree. From his nail scarred hands, I know Christ came to him in the form of a child and melted his heart.
