This month marks my second anniver-sary of being your pastor. Time has really flown! Over-all, it has been a good year for our parish except for the pandemic,
which has had and will continue to have great physical, emotional, spiritu-al, societal and economic cost. We cer-tainly continue to pray for the end of the pandemic and hope in the coming year to recover from most of its effects. For those who have lost loved ones, know of my prayers for you during this difficult time, and all of us here at St. Pius X stand in solidarity with you and are here for you.
Our community will continue to face challenges as we resume more activities on our campus, with the hope that re-strictions due to the pandemic will be-come more relaxed as circumstances permit. Many questions have been asked about the resumption of specific activities. We will be putting together a plan for activities and facilities usage taking into account the needs of the parish, safety, and the nature of the group and activity. In the process, pri-orities will have to be set with activities
and service groups that are essential to both the restoration and proper func-tioning of our parish. In this prioritiza-tion, prudential judgments will have to be made, and I understand that not all may agree with the decisions made.
After our Sacramental worship, our first priority is providing the facilities needed for SPES. Our elementary school and the education of the chil-dren enrolled there is our most im-portant apostolate after worship. Along those same lines, the religious education of our children who do not attend SPES is also a top priority. At this point in time, we do not know the facility needs of those two apostolates, and until we do, we are unable to im-plement a plan for most other groups, particularly those that meet during the day. There are certain service groups that we will need functioning sooner than others, and we are contacting their leadership regarding facilities, meet-ings and the services they can provide to our parish during the restoration of parish life. As has been mentioned throughout the pandemic, we will all need patience and flexibility. My hope is that we can continue to exhibit the same patience and flexibility that we have thus far.
As I mentioned above, this year has overall been a good year for our parish. We’ve broken ground on construction for our parking lot. Improved parking is badly needed. On a personal level, your love and support for me and my family at my Mother’s passing was overwhelming and so appreciated by us. Certainly you all continue to be both supportive and patient with me as we continue to become more familiar with each other. I think the pandemic has helped to hasten this process. Over the course of the year, we’ve had some successes as well as bumps in the road. However, my hope as your pas-tor, is that in these experiences whether joyful or not, we've all grown closer to Jesus over the last year as we continue our journey towards eternal life. In the end, that's all that really matters.
I’ll be out next weekend on vacation. For a week or two, I’ll become a “fisher of fish.” Know that my prayers will continue to be with you, and I hope yours for me. My hope is that upon return, we will be able to work together in restoring parish life in the post-pandemic era.
God Bless, Fr. Brady

Practical Steps for Eradicating Racism: An Invitation
This Guide was prepared to assist Catholics and people of good will in reflecting on the evil and harm of racism. While this is not a comprehensive list, it provides actionable steps that may assist Catholics to reflect and respond in faith. With the aid of Holy Scripture, Catholic social teaching, and sacred tradition, this is an open invitation to journey toward reconciliation. Racism is evil because it attacks the inherent dignity of the human person, created in the image and likeness of God. The persistence of racism demands our attention now. Racism emerges in the actions and inactions of individuals; and it is embedded in our institutions and public policies. Our faith calls us both to personal conversion and to transformation of our society. The following are some actionable steps pastors and their communities may undertake to this end:
1. Read (or re-read) Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love – A Pastoral Letter Against Racism using the accompanying Study Guide. Visit usccb.org/racism.
2. Create various large and small group opportunities for family and community members to process their feelings in the midst of news and commentary about vulnerable populations and law enforcement. Encourage participants to reflect or share their own upbringing regarding comments in the home, from parents and individuals, media and entertainment, even practices of the Church about the merits or demerits of certain groups of people made to be “the other.” Ask. “How have I knowingly or unconsciously made this formation part of my world view? Where could I have spoken up but didn’t?”
3. Arrange a safe space for young people to reflect and pray about racism and recent events. Listen to the current experiences of young people. Encourage and allow their creative expression. Invite them to generate methodologies that are meaningful to them.
4. Attend an intergenerational interracial virtual town hall discussion on racism. Respect that for some African Americans, Hispanics and others, talking about personal racial experiences in a mixed race setting is painful as it is like reopening a wound that hadn’t fully healed.
5. Use a pastoral and non-partisan lens to respond to concerns of family and community members about racism, policing and public safety. Do not politicize this. Lean on Gospel values, instead.
6. Contact your pastor, parish council or diocesan office to discuss possible ways to dialogue with local law enforcement. Some community organizations funded by the bishops through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) are leading these efforts in their communities. See what is happening near you.
7. Learn about structural racism and its roots in in your community and get involved in the work to address it. It might look like housing discrimination that continues to contribute to segregated communities or disparate access to quality education.
8. Invite your parish to incorporate regular dialogue among parishioners about their experiences with racism, prejudice and racial discrimination.
9. Invite your parish or faith-sharing group to host a conversation with a group of African American, Latino, Indigenous or African men and/or young people about their personal experiences with law enforcement.
10. Encourage religious education classes and faith-sharing groups, as well as priests and deacons at your parish to speak out against racism and for personal responsibility to eradicate it. With children, use the storybook Everyone Belongs as a starting point for conversation. With teens and adults, explore how anti-racism action looks. Continue to study and understand racism as it manifested in the past and does so today.

Prayer Quilt Fellowship
Prayer Quilt Fellowship Though we have been quarantined and kept from our nor-mal everyday routines, one of St. Pius X’s ministries has continued to conduct their operations from their own homes. Besides keeping busy with quilting and sewing prayer blankets, the members of this special outreach minis-try have also been busy making face masks for over 200 people in the healthcare community, and for Catholic chari-ties. With the intent of wrapping those who are suffering in prayer, the ministry’s members will continue to work from home to produce prayer blankets for those in need of com-fort. If you know of someone in need, please contact the parish office to request a prayer blanket.
Prayer to Overcome Racism Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a way to unite himself to every human being, called to be one people, sisters and brothers to each other. We ask for your help in calling on your Son, seeking for-giveness for the times when we have failed to love and re-spect one another. We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need to overcome the evil of racism and to build a just society. We ask for your help in following your Son, so that preju-dice and animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be replaced with a love that respects the dignity of each person. Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus warms our hearts: pray for us. Amen.

ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishioners serve parishioners. The ACTS Retreat, an acronym for Adoration,
Community, Theology and Service, began in the 1980’s in San Antonio, Texas.
The retreat’s goals are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to build strong, lasting friendships, and to
grow in our relationship with our Lord, our parish and one another.
The ACTS weekend is presented by lay Catholic women, with support provided by a Spiritual Director/companion or clergy. Parishioners who serve on ACTS retreats strive to provide the opportunity for our parish community to expe-rience, become, and share the Body of Christ. Once parish-ioners attend a St. Pius X Parish ACTS Retreat, they can help serve on the upcoming retreat.
Please consider this wonderful gift to yourself or someone you love.

First Prayer to Our Lady O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a
sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the cross, You partici-
pated in Jesus’ pain with steadfast faith. You, “Salvation of the Roman people,“ know what we need. We are cer-tain that you will provide, so that as you did at Cana of
Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform our-selves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our sufferings upon himself and bore our sorrows, to bring us through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protec-tion, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our pleas - we, who are put to the test -and deliver us from every
danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
If you’d like to continue your generosity through your offertory giving, you may do so by using your envelopes, which can be mailed or dropped off in the night Drop Box outside of our office. Or, online through our website at https://stpiusxchurch.org/online-giving.
