From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
Capital Campaign (CC): Let me share with
you the updates coming from our CC Coordina-
tors---Terri Ciardella, Sharon Oosterman, and
Tammi Grigg. Soon I shall give you the news
about when the phase one of pavement work will
begin.
Tree: Davey's Trees returned last week to finish
the tree removal by grinding out the stump and
roots. If you have not had a chance to see the
area be sure to take a look, there is already a no-
ticeable difference. The tree chippings will be
distributed amongst the parish grounds.
Bingo: As you know, all proceeds from
Wednesday Bingo go to benefit the school and
usually there would be no Bingo in the month of
July. We have reinstated July Bingo to benefit
our Capital Campaign. Last Wednesday’s turn
out for Bingo was fantastic! The crowd was
filled with many new faces, some of whom had
never played Bingo before, as well as our loyal
regular Bingo enthusiasts. We have 3 more
Wednesdays this month. Parishioners, if you are
free, do pick one or more of the remaining Bingo
dates to join the fun. Who knows you just may
be the one to yell BINGO! Every dollar earned
helps further our pavement efforts.
Parish Picnic/Bocce Ball Tournament: A res-
ervation table will be set up after the Saturday
5pm Mass and the Sunday 8am, 9:30am and
11am Masses for those interested in attending
the Parish Picnic or Bocce Ball tournament on
August 24th. The picnic price of $10.00 will be
held over until the end of the month. Please get
your reservations in for the picnic or Bocce Ball
as soon as possible to aid the committee in their
planning. Gather a group of your fellow parish-
ioners and friends or plan on meeting up with
new ones at what is sure to be a fun-filled day.
Pastoral Council: I have been working on this
important matter for some time and now I am
glad to announce a partial list of the members on
our newly constituted Pastoral Council: John
Wildermuth, David Collins, Richard Garbarino,
Romy Soriben, with some staff joining. This ad-
visory committee will make suggestions to the
pastor on pastoral outreach and related matters. I
would like to thank the members of this council
for accepting this invitation and am looking for-
ward to joining them in strengthening our service
to our parish community. Our first meeting will
be held on July 18th.
Father David Coffey’s Visit: My Australian
friend Father Coffey is visiting our parish for a
week (July 08-15). You may recall that he spent a
few days with us over two years ago. He and I
lived in the same Jesuit Community at Marquette
University, Milwaukee, for over five years, he as
theology professor and I as a doctoral student. A
warm, friendly person, Father Coffey is a well-
published author and an expert in the theology of
the Holy Spirit and Trinity. Among his books are:
Grace: The Gift of the Holy Spirit (Catholic Insti-
tute of Sydney, 1979); Believer, Christian, Catho-
lic (Catholic Institute of Sydney, 1986); Deus
Trinitas: The Doctrine of the Triune God (Oxford
University Press, 1999); and The Sacrament of
Reconciliation (Liturgical Press, 2001). His nu-
merous articles range widely across these and re-
lated topics, and they have appeared in many
books, as well as in such journals as: Australasian
Catholic Record, Theological Studies, Irish Theo-
logical Quarterly, Faith and Culture, Colloquium,
St. Vladimir’s Theological Quarterly, Philosophy
and Theology, and the International Journal of
Systematic Theology. Let’s give Father Coffey
St. Veronica’s proverbial hospitality!
Catholic Joke: God, Adam & Eve: In the Faith
Formation class, the children were asked to draw
some pictures that would illustrate what happened
to Adam and Eve. Little Johnny drew a picture of
a car with three people in it. In the front seat be-
hind the wheel was a man and in the back seat
were a man and a woman. The teacher didn’t un-
derstand how this illustrated the lesson of Adam
and Eve. But little Johnny explained: “Why, this
is God driving Adam and Eve out of the garden!”
