BenefitsSchool improvement- The addition of a synthetic turf field will provide us with
a first class facility, allowing us to compete with schools that have already
upgraded their fields including Eagle, Meridian and Gonzaga Prep.
Consistency - The fields can be used 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no
risk of field damage.
Accessibility - Many groups will benefit, including the high school band, school
clubs and physical education classes, soccer, lacrosse, community groups and
high school football programs. Baseball and softball can also practice on the
turf if they are unable to practice on their diamonds due to poor weather.
Safety - A consistent playing surface and low G-Max rating [a measurement ofthe shock absorbing properties of synthetic turf] is essential for a safe playing
surface. Sure footing is key to preventing any type of foot, ankle and leg
injuries, and a flat and consistent synthetic system can provide that type of
surface, whereas grass fields have divots and develop ruts. The G-Max rating
is an important testing process for the final completion of a synthetic turf
system. The proper G-Max rating will provide a safer playing surface to reduce
the risk of head injuries as well.
Environmental Aside from the environmental advantages that come fromlower water use, the removal of significant amounts of fertilizer and pesticides
means less chance of contaminating groundwater and safer field conditions
for children, pets, and wildlife. In addition, synthetic turf is made of recycled
materials.
Opportunity - Because of its durability, turf can be used more often, thus
generating the possibility of income through rental fees. Having a synthetic
turf field creates more economic opportunities for the Coeur dAlene area.
Smart Investment - Natural grass fields are not as durable, which limits hours
of usage. In addition, maintenance expenses can reach upwards of $40,000
annually. The yearly savings will be allocated to other school projects.

QuotesThe addition of Sprinturffields at both Coeur dAlene and Lake City High
Schools will have a huge impact on the entire community well beyond the
obvious improvement in a safer and more consistent playing surface for
Soccer, Lacrosse, and Football. Track, Baseball, Softball, and Physical
Education Classes will also have the ability to take advantage of this year-
round playing surface. Outside of the School District many clubs and other
groups will have two more fields to help elevate the current lack of playing
areas for our youth programs, including Jr. Tackle and Sting Soccer. The
addition of these fields will have a positive impact on thousands of peoples
lives and become a real area of pride for the entire community.
Shawn AmosCoeur dAlene High School Football Coach
I believe the field turf proposal is a terrific idea. It fits the city of Coeur dAlene
to a tee. It is about the community of Coeur dAlene being a leader in North
Idaho and doing what is best for our kids and the community.
The opportunities that every program will have will be very beneficial toeveryone. Soccer, Football, Lacrosse, Jr. Tackle, Track and Field, Band and PE
programs will all benefit from the field turf proposal. You will see increases in
participation and in support for these activities as they get a chance to show
case their talents and represent a great community like Coeur dAlene.
As time goes on the community will find many more uses for these fields, it
will be source of pride and commitment for our community.

QuotesI believe that the city of Coeur d Alene and the surrounding communities
would benefit greatly by adding the two proposed field turf fields. The
number one benefit, in my opinion, would be for the improved health and
safety for those using them. The even, forgiving turf is much less likely to
cause injury to our youth as the current fields do with their exposed sprinkler
heads, patches of dirt and random potholes. The existing parking situation
would be much safer for all the athletes and their families as well.
John Friesz
NFL Player and Coeur dAlene Graduate
Field Turf will definitely benefit the lacrosse program. The game is faster
and better played on the turf. Faceoffs and speed are significantly better
on turf. We look forward to scheduling and playing games under the lights
as well!
Lacrosse is also a sport that is hard on our fields. The area in front of
the goal crease wears down and the goal itself usually leaves a patch of
brown dirt in front of the goal. The turf will solve this problem alltogether. In addtion, we will be able to play in any weather conditions,
especially in the rain, without fear of destroying a field. We will also
not have to manually line the field and touch up our field lines throughout
the season. We spend many hours and about $300 a year just on painting
lines!

QuotesThe condition of Viking Soccer Field is difficult to maintain at our high
standards due to over-use (three-four teams train there daily) plus
competitions, and the use by lacrosse in the spring.
Field turf puts soccer on equal terms with other varsity programs within our
district. It assures the highest regularity and safety for the athletes
during a contest or training. It would generate more dollars through the
gate. In the long run, maintenance needs are different, but presumably less
costly to the district to maintain field turf compared with grass.
Eric Louis
Viking Boys Varsity Soccer Coach

I believe field turf would be a huge benefit for our programs and for safety
issues. Field turf will provide a safe practice place for all of our programs. It
will also allow our teams to play at night which would add to the number of
spectators which in turn is higher gate receipts for the schools.
Right now our practice facilities are inadequate for our teams. Field turf
would provide a safe practice and game field that would benefit everyone at
both schools. Field turf is becoming a common thing in Idaho and
Washington. It provides schools with a advantage in a variety areas. It is
important to give our kids the same opportunities.
