Introduction• Supporting to the consumers needs regardless of the location from where

the service is being provided is known as cloud computing.cloud computing.

• Earlier known as utility computing , recently named as the cloud computing.

• It basically is a paradigm which implements the use of Virtual Virtual Machine(VM).Machine(VM).

• Its main purpose is to serve applications, infrastructure and platforms as the services to the clients , that can be accessed from any locations in the world.

• Main company involved recently are Microsoft, Yahoo, IBM, Google.

• Its logical terms known as Infrastructure as a Service(IaaS), Platform as a Service(PaaS) and Software as a Service(SaaS).

Need Of Cloud Computing• The need of cloud computing can be explained with the help of

below graph. The following graph shows the number of users who log on to the Australian Open web page.

• The graph here represents the number of people visiting the Australian open web page during the tournament in January and then most of the year there are no more visitors. This leads to waste of the resources available with the company, cloud providing company provide them the resources on lease at a nominal rate. This is the reason for the need of the cloud computing.

Green Computing• Green computing is defined as the study and practice of designing ,

manufacturing, using and disposing of computers, servers, and associated subsystems—such as monitors, printers, storage devices, and networking and communications systems—efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment."

• Green computing can be compared to the ‘Green Chemistry’, i.e. reduce the hazardous effect on environment and to increase the power efficiency to the products life.

• There are several approaches to green computing, namely:1.Product longetivity2.Algorithmic efficiency3.Resource allocation4.Virtualisation5.Power management etc.

Need Of Green Computing• The main reasons for the deployment of the green computing

are:I. Consumption of electricity is ignored in the earlier cloud

model.II.Expensive to maintain.III.Affects the environment on a large scale.IV.They leave a carbon footprints on the environment.

VM Migration• The VM has mainly four heuristics :

• The first one specifies the VM to be kept above the threshold and the CPU utilization below the threshold.

• The other three have a different system they provide upper and lower threshold to hosts and keeping the CPU utilization between them.

• There are policies for choosing VM’s migration.1.Minimization Of Migration(MM).2.Highest Potential Growth(HPG).3.Random Choice(RC).

Page 9: Fianl ppt

Experimental Setup And Simulation Result• Experiments were carried out to minimize the energy

consumption and reduction of carbon footprint to the environment.

• It was a test conducted with 100 heterogeneous computers.

Energy Consumption Of Different Policies

Conclusions• Applying green technologies is highly essential for the

sustainable development of cloud computing.

• Of various policies MM is proved to be most efficient.

• Green scheduling algorithms based on neural predictors can lead to a 70% power savings. These policies also enable us to cut down data centre energy costs, thus leading to a strong, competitive cloud computing industry.

• End users will also benefit from the decreased energy bills.

Page 12: Fianl ppt

Future Work• This is the industry that will be ever growing and this the first

step to bring a change in the big cloud world.

• More policies are invented everyday and are implemented but only a few survive the tests.

• So we need to develop the policy such that it is cost efficient as well as power efficient.
