  • THE PLANET EARTH IS AT RISK!

  • ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMSPOLLUTIONAIR POLLUTIONWATER POLLUTION

    ENDANGERED SPECIES/ANIMALS

    DEFORESTATION

    OVERPOPULATION

  • AIR POLLUTIONToxic gases from factories and fumes from car exhaust pipes are released to the atmosphere;Smog (smoke and fog) mainly in the industrialized cities;Toxic waste dumped in open spaces;Fertilizers and pesticides;Ozone unfriendly products such as aerosol sprays containing CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbon);

  • Urban sewage as well as industrial and household waste are dumped into rivers and oceans;The fertilizers and pesticides used in the agriculture get into the soil and mix up with the underground water, contaminating the drinkable water;Oil and crude are spilt over the ocean whenever there is an accident in high sea with cargo ships

    Account for great ecological catastrophes killing the fish and all marine life.

    WATER POLLUTION

  • The sea animals are the main victims of man's neglect (turtles are often trapped and killed by fishing nets)

    *

  • ENDANGERED ANIMALSSome animals are becoming extinct. There are many animals in danger of disappearing such as whales, tigers, seals, rhinos, eagles, Iberian lynxes, etc. Many species have already disappeared due to:

    Illegal trade;Hunters kill them for money and pleasure;Their habitat is being destroyed by pollution, climate changes, soil erosion, acid rain and deforestation.

  • Thousands of animals are slaughtered and killed just because of their fur, skin, teeth , bones and meat.

  • DEFORESTATION Deforestation means the massive cutting down of trees and the destruction of the forests, mainly the Amazon Forest, the biggest and most important rainforest considered the lungs of the world.

  • Deforestation is due to:Fires; Logging (the massive cutting down of trees) to satisfy both the demands of growing population and the economic interests of the developed countries;Pollution and acid rain

    Less oxygen The destruction of the habitats of many speciesSoil erosion

  • CONSEQUENT PROBLEMSAcid rain (destroys the soil, the trees, the monuments, );Ozone layer hole (the hole in the ozone layer is getting bigger and bigger due to pollution);Greenhouse effect (the greenhouse effect is getting worse);Global warming (pollution is contributing to the alarming increase of the global warming, fact which affects the global climate. In some parts of the planet there will be floods whereas in others there will be drought).
