A proposed ban on a type of ammunition designed for use in AR-15 rifles catching heat from conservative lawmakers and gun rights advocates. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says a proposed bullet ban is intended to protect law enforcement while respecting the interests of sportsmen and the industry. House Judiciary chairman Bob Goodlatte is one of 239 members of Congress

who have signed a letter to ATF director Todd Jones expressing concern about the Obama administration’s plan to ban popular ammo for the AR-15. We hope that they will follow the law and make sure that this is a transparent process and identify a reason why this should be changed when for 30 years this bullet has been acceptable on the market. Actor Harrison Ford said to be in fair condition after crash-landing his plane near an airport in Santa Monica, California. The pilot reported a loss of engine power and was attempting to return

to the runway. Patrick Jones with the NTSB. It appears that he clipped the top of a tree and came to rest on the golf course. No one else was on the plane, a World War II vintage aircraft.

Four patients at Cedars-Sinai medical center in Los Angeles have been infected with an antibiotic resistant superbug linked to a tainted

medical scope, this weeks after a similar outbreak at the UCLA medical center. Seven patients were sickened and two of those died.

A report due out today says black people are far more subjected to excessive force and traffic stops and petty citations. Former Ferguson mayor Brian Fletcher hopes the city takes a deeper look at what’s behind those findings. Just throwing

numbers out, there’s reasons why African Americans might be pulled over more, they tend to live more in poverty, we know that. City leaders will wait to comment after the Department of Justice makes all of its report public.

Americans don’t just treat pets like family, they spend like it. Pet lovers putting their wallet where their heart is. In the US alone $58 billion spent on pets last year, that’s about five times more than what was spent on movies. The annual report from an industry trade group, the American Pet Products Association, covers 397 million pets

ranging from cats and dogs to fish and reptiles. The most money spent was on food, $22 billion, the rest broken into four categories including vet care, other services and other supplies such as collars, bowls and beds. Pet spending more than tripling since the group’s first survey in 1994.

As snow blankets the nation’s capital civil disobedience with sleds defying a Capitol Hill ban on sledding. Parents pushing kids on sleds, after all the federal government is closed along with various schools, but this scene on the west front of the Capitol is also a civics lesson. We ask people not to sled on Capitol grounds. Despite that warning from Capitol Hill police Lieutenant Eric Graves, Tim Krepp, will keep pushing his

daughters down this modest ice-caked hill. We’ve been sledding here for many years now, we came in 2009 with no issues. DC Congressional delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton asked the Sergeant at Arms to rescind the sledding ban this week, that request has not been granted, sparking this protest of sorts, a few sledders bringing signs that say sled free or die.

Oklahoma would be the first state to allow nitrogen gas executions under a bill that won state house approval today, proposed after a botched execution that led to a US Supreme Court review of the current three drug method. The nitrogen

gas proposal now heads to the Oklahoma Senate. All executions now on hold in Georgia after the lethal injection of the only woman on the state’s death row was postponed last night over the cloudy appearance of a drug.
