Purpose of the Auctioneering Qualification

The purpose of this learning programme is to develop competent Auctioneers that can confidently and actively participate in the Auctioneering Industry.

Programme Objectives

The Auctioneering programme aims to:

Provide broad knowledge; skills and values needed in the Auctioneering Industry.

Facilitate access to, and mobility and progression within education and training and allow learners to progress along a learning path in Auctioneering.

Provide access to becoming a fully-fledged Auctioneer by achieving the National Certificate: Auctioneering Qualification at NQF Level

The learning programme focuses on the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes required to progress further in the Auctioneering Industry and the intention is :

To promote the development of knowledge, skills and values that are required in the Auctioneering Industry.

Benefit of Programme

Successful learners will be more fulfilled, informed, efficient and cost effective Auctioneers

This should result, in turn, in more effective and efficient service to the consumer and should make the training provider for which the learner works more competitive in the sector.

Qualification rules

A minimum of 150 credits is required to complete the Qualification. In this Qualification the credits are allocated as follows:

Fundamental: 56 credits.

Core: 64 credits.

Electives: 30 credits.

Notional Hours

Notional hours are based on the value of credits of the registered unit standards used in each Skills Programme. 1 Credit equals 10 notional hours.

The total of notional hours are broken up into a variety of activities and specific times (hours) are allocated to each activity.

Notional Hours Breakdown

Classroom Activities

• Refers to time learners spend with a facilitator in a guided learning environment

Individual Activities

• Requires the learners to do self-study and research independently. These activities are a combination of knowledge and skills and are designed to assist the learner with transferring knowledge and skills into the workplace

Workplace Activities

• Requires learner to apply skills in an actual workplace

Assessment

• Refers to activities where the learners completed classroom, individual and workplace activities are assessed by an Assessor

Theory/practical split

Out of total notional hours per Learning Unit:

30% of the total time is spend on classroom activities and coaching

70% of the total time is spend on Individual and Workplace Activities

2- 4 hours are allocated for Assessment per unit standard

This means that allocated times might exceed the notional hours required by the registered qualification

Exemption

Individuals that are currently employed in the auctioneering industry can start the exemption compliance process with the South African Institute for Auctioneers (SAIA).

Applicants will have to formally apply for:-

1. Exemption in terms of the SAIA NQF 4 Equivalency Matrix;2. If applicants do not qualify in terms of (1) above, then they will

have to go through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Delegates will have to prove competency by means of a Portfolio of Evidence (POE) against the FETC: Auctioneering Support Services (NQF 4);

3. If applicants do not qualify for either (1) or (2) above, they must enrol for the full training programme to complete the qualification over 12 months.

BA; B. Admin; BCom; LLB; B Proc; B Juris; B Sc (Stats and Mathematics); BLC; B Sc Degrees (Other); B Soc Sc; B Admin;

All other Bachelors Degrees;MB Bch;BCur;Degrees/Diplomas in Marketing;Degrees/Diplomas in Nursing,Psychology;

All other Degrees, Diplomas and Post Graduate Diplomasincluding business relatedqualifications from variousbusiness schools which includefinancial, legal and economic subjects in their curricula including NationalCertificates and Diplomas issued by and TechnikonsAll relevant degrees at Honours, Masters and/or Doctoral level containing at least one major subject related to the auctioneering profession.

Persons holding these qualifications are exempted from the FETC: Auctioneering Support Services (NQF Level 4) provided the relevant qualification contains at least two major subjects related to the auctioneering profession. Appropriate subjects, in the discretion of SAIA, include:

Accounting;Business Finance;Economics (whether Micro or Macro);Education;Finance;Financial Analysis, Management, Planning, Reporting, Risk;Human Resources;Industrial Psychology;Insurance;Investment Management;Relevant Law subjects (including Administrative Law, Commercial Law, Company Law, Mercantile Law, Private Law, Property Law, etc.);Management;Management Accounting;Marketing;Mathematics;Personal Financial;Valuation;Statistics;Valuations.

All SETA accredited Further Education and Training Certificates which have been completed in full and the candidate certificated.

Credit will be awarded for all fundamental unit standards achieved at NQF Level 4 for any SETA accredited FETC qualification. Proof of SETA verification is essential. The credit value will depend on the actual unit standards that have been obtained for the FETC.

Exemption process

Application

• The applicant sends copies of his/her completed qualifications with the statements of results to the custodian of the qualification for assessment.

Assessment

•If the applicant meets the requirements for full exemption, they will be requested to send the following:

• Completed enrolment form (as attached)

• Certified copy of Qualification(s)

• Certified copy of Statement of Results for relevant Qualifications(s)

• Certified copy of ID Document or Passport

Certification

• Upon receipt of documents, The custodian of the qualification will issue a certificate of exemption to the applicant
