there is something truly unique about fennes. Located in 100 acres of essex countryside, it has a wonderfully welcoming feel and it is easy to imagine that it could be your own home. It is this that makes fennes the ideal venue for your wedding day and, with over fourteen years’ experience as a dedicated wedding venue, we have mastered the essence of what makes your special day perfect.

A mile long lane traverses the green pastures of the estate, bringing you to the sweeping driveway that leads to fennes…

The driveway that leads to the house is flanked on one side by a beautiful curved brick wall which formed the gateway to the original manor house. Opposite stands one of the landmarks of the estate, an ancient and majestic cedar tree that was planted during the reign of King George IV.

Fennes’ formal gardens feature well-tended beds and a spectacular fountain that feeds the estate pond. This romantic and versatile outdoor space provides an ideal backdrop for photographs and a lovely reception area for drinks and canapés.

The majority of the reception rooms at Fennes are Georgian in style with high ceilings and a very spacious feel, although some parts of the house date back to the 15th century. We are able to accommodate smaller, more intimate weddings within this suite of rooms, whilst larger wedding parties use these rooms to receive guests before moving through to the Wedding Pavilion.

the Drawing Room

Overlooking the beautiful gardens, this beautifully appointed room is licensed for smaller ceremonies and is the perfect room in which to enjoy a glass of champagne with your guests. The large sash windows allow sunlight to flood the room in the summer and the original fireplace, lit in the winter months, provides a cosy and intimate space for your reception.

the Dining Room

This richly decorated room is perfect for a fine dining experience or a welcoming area for your guests to begin your celebrations.

the Library

Traditionally the family room of the house, furnished with deep comfy sofas and overlooking the pond, this is the perfect setting for laughter and relaxation with your closest friends and family.

the Reading Room

A true gentlemen’s room with a large open fireplace and leather seats, the Reading Room makes a lovely reception area or a quiet room for guests to relax.

the Pavilion

Lined with beautiful silk and featuring chandeliers, wall sconces and a starlight ceiling, the Pavilion also includes a bar area and state-of-the-art sound system and dance floor. Licensed for civil ceremonies and overlooking the estate grounds, it makes a perfect setting for a very special occasion.

the Banqueting hall

The Banqueting Hall is our largest function room and can seat up to 400 guests under its starlight ceiling. A versatile space used for evening receptions, it can also be partitioned for smaller parties. A private walled garden can be accessed from the Hall and provides an ideal outside space for guests catching their breath between dances.

With experienced wedding co–ordinators on hand to ensure your day runs smoothly, Fennes has extensive experience of entertaining up to 550 guests within our charming venue. You may choose to conduct the ceremony in the intimate Drawing Room, in the Pavilion or in the stunning grounds surrounding the house.

If specialist catering is required, we welcome outside caterers and can provide a list of suitable professionals, depending on your needs. Alternatively our brigade of fine chefs will cater to your specific requirements. Full use of the kitchen facilities as well as dedicated support from our wedding co-ordinator ensures that your wedding is perfect in every respect.

A Civil Ceremony is a truly unique way of celebrating your love and devotion to each other. With readings and music personalised by the couple themselves, the ceremony can be tailored to best reflect aspects of your personalities and relationship. More intimate ceremonies for up to 35 guests can be conducted in the Drawing Room and larger ceremonies of up to 300 guests can be held in the Pavilion or the Gazebo situated in the formal gardens.

Some couples prefer to celebrate their special day with a small number of their closest friends and family. Using the whole house as if it were your own makes Fennes the ideal venue for intimate celebrations. By Road(for routes not via Sudbury or Haverhill)Once you arrive at the outskirts of Braintree, follow signs for Sudbury A131. This will take you on and around the bypass. Look out for Broadfield Nursery (see map) on your right, then take the next left onto Church Street, signposted Fennes Fisheries. Then take the fourth turning on the right into Fennes Road. We are one mile down Fennes Road.

If travelling via Sudbury or Haverhill, on the approach to Braintree turn right at a signpost for ‘Fennes Fisheries’ to take you into Church Street. Then take the fourth turning on the right into Fennes Road. We are one mile down Fennes Road.
