Research Field: Prof. Cheng is a world authority in the field of VLSI testing and design verification, as well as an impactful contributor across a wide range of research areas including design automation of electronic and photonic systems, mobile computer vision, and learning-based multimedia computing. He has published more than 400 technical papers, co-authored five books, held 12 US patents. He received 10+ Best Paper Awards from various IEEE and ACM conferences and journals.

Research Field: Prof. Hong Lin has widely contributed to the research of new energy materials, especially those used in nanostructured solar cells, and key issues such as structural design and materials preparation, electron excitation/transportation/recombination/collection, and their photo-chemistry or electrochemistry, of nano-materials. 交流：2008年にVDECD2T寄付部門客員教授として６カ月滞在し、VDECD2T寄付部門における研究活動を通し、工学系研究科電気系工学専攻の大学院学生の教育・研究指導に従事するほか、「VLSIテスト」に関する大学院集中講義を実施。以降VDECD2Tシンポジウムにおける講演の機会ごとに研究活動に従事し、VDECのみならず、工学系研究科電気系工学専攻の大学院学生に対する教育研究活動に顕著な貢献が認められる。以下の３件の共著論文のほか、これまで12回実施したVDEC主催の国際シンポジウムであるD2Tシンポジウムにおいて、過去７回招待講演を行っている。

専門：Lin教授は、ナノ構造太陽電池に使用される新エネルギー材料を中心に、ナノ材料の構造設計と合成や、電子励起／伝達／再結合／収集、およびそれらの光化学、電気化学に幅広く貢献してきた。例えば、CH3NH3PbI3ペロブスカイトに独創的に低濃度のSnS量子ドットをドープし、ハイブリッド光吸収剤を作製して、太陽電池の光起電力性能を目立って向上させた。Lin教授はこれまでに400件以上の科学論文を発表しており、８冊の本を共著し、１５件の米国特許を保有している。また、中国セラミックス協会から中国国際セラミックス大会（CICC）賞を、名古屋大学から国際交流貢献顕彰を受賞している。現在、ScienceandTechnologyofAd-vancedMaterials(STAM)雑誌の編集委員も務めている。

交流：2005年より本学マテリアル工学専攻と清華大学材料学院との間のワークショップ（ソウル国立大学を交えたものを含む）において計14回清華大学側の実施責任者を務め、その多くで講演も行った。加えて本学マテリアル工学専攻修士学生の受け入れや清華大学学部学生の本学訪問団への助言を通じて学生交流の促進にも貢献してきた。さらに2017年には、バイオエンジニアリング、精密工学、水科学、建築史、バリアフリー研究、人文科学等の多様な分野を含む第2回清華大–東大合同シンポジウムにおいて幹事長を務め、両校の交流強化に貢献した。

Prof. Cheng is a Fellow of IEEE, and he has been very active in providing professional services to the IEEE and to the academic community. Having served as the editor-in-chief of IEEE Design & Test of Computers, on the boards of IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation’s Board of Governors and IEEE Computer Society’s Publications Board, and on various technology advisory or working groups including the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), Prof Cheng has been internationally known as an eminent member of the field.

Collaboration in Education and Research: Research collaboration with the University of Tokyo in VLSI testing for many years (from 2008 to present) including half-year of services in education and research guidance as a visiting professor at Advantest D2T research division in VDEC (2008/7–2008/12), with graduate school students of Electrical Engineering and Information System Depart-ment, Engineering School. Give lecture at Department of EEIS, Graduate School of Engineering, on “VLSI test”, in the fall semester of 2008. Periodic visits to the University of Tokyo for research meetings and lectures at VDEC D2T Symposia. 3 co-authored papers published, and 7 invited presentations at D2T symposium at D2T, VDEC, University of Tokyo.

concentration SnS QDs to CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite, formed a hybrid solar absorber, which obviously enhanced the photovoltaic performance of the solar cells. Prof. Lin has published more than 400 scientific papers, co-authored 8 books, and held 15 Chinese patents. She has received The Chinese Ceramic Society Award for Chinese International Ceramic Conference (CICC) from The Chinese Ceramic Society, and International Communication Award from Nagoya University. She is currently an associate editor of Science and Technology of Advanced Materials (STAM).

Collaboration in Education and Research: Since 2005, Prof. Lin has been in charge of 14 workshops between School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University and Department of Materials Engineering, The University of Tokyo (including three university workshops with Seoul National University) and has given lectures in many of them. In addition, she contributed to furthering student exchange via accepting graduate student of the University of Tokyo and advising the delegates of Tsinghua undergraduate students to the University of Tokyo. Furthermore, she contributed a lot to the enhancement of communication between the two universities through serving as the General Secretary of the 2nd TU-UTokyo Joint Symposium on Multidiscipline in 2017, which includes various fields such as bioengineering, precision engineering, hydro-science, architectural history, accessibility development and humanities.

Research Field: Most of Prof. Nogami’s significant research contributions are surface structure studies with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). This body of work includes ten papers that have been cited more than 100 times, and an additional 17 that have been cited at least 50 times. According to ISI, Nogami’s h-index is 37. In the area of metal growth on silicon surfaces, he was a pioneer in applying STM to these problems, and much of

専門：Nogami教授の最も秀でた成果は、STMを用いた物質表面構造の研究である。その主な業績として、被引用100回以上の論文１0編、被引用50回以上の論文17編があり、ISIによるh-indexは37である。シリコン表面上の金属薄膜成長の研究分野において、教授はSTMを適用したパイオニアであり、初期の研究で被引用の多い仕事はこれらの研究である。彼の研究は、やがて表面構造を決定するのみにとどまらず、薄膜成長の原子論的機構や、成長過程におけるミクロスケールでの自己パターンニング等へと拡がりを見せた。これらの研究は、ともすると近年流行の「ナノテクノロジー」となんら変わらないように聞こえるかもしれないが、これらは決して今に始まったことではなく、先駆者あってのことなのである。教授の現在の研究は、有機系デバイスとして期待される有機分子の成長機構や、分子配向に起因する界面の影響等へと展開している。

交流：2003年より、本学工学系研究科（マテリアル工学科、機械工学科）との大学院生間の交流を目的とするUT2-workshop（Univ.of Tokyo&Univ. of Torontoworkshop）が開催されており、この交流関係は隔年毎に互いを開催地としながら現在まで継続されている。この間、のべでおよそ３５０件を超える大学院生の口頭発表、５０件を超える教員の招待講演が行われている。Nogami教授は、２００４年からトロント大側の担当教員としてUT2-workshopを全面的にバックアップしてきており、本学教育へ多大なる貢献をいただいている。

専門：シュミット博士は、製薬企業ロシュ（本社：スイス・バーゼル）のバイオ医薬品生産部門で要職を務めてきた。2012年～2017年には1500人規模の事業所の長を務め、現在は世界各所の投資プロジェクト管理の任にある。これと並行して、シュミット博士は、近隣大学での教育活動に積極的に携わってきた。ETHZurichおよびUniversityofBaselでは薬学系共通講義「QualityManagementinPharmaceuticalBusiness」を非常勤講師として2001年から2012年まで担当した。両大学からは共同研究を通じて5名の博士学生を受け入れ、研究の機会を提供してきた。また、ミュンヘン工科大なども含む近隣大学から30名を超すインターンシップ生を受け入れている。

交流：シュミット博士は、「海外」の「産業」という立場から本学の教育・研究活動に貢献してきた。2014年以降、化学システム工学専攻ではシュミット博士と共に、製薬プロセス最適化に関する国際共同研究を遂行し、また、毎年1名の大学院生を2カ月間受け入れる夏季インターンシップ・プログラムを実施している。シュミット博士はETHZurichと本学の間のSGU戦略的パートナーシップ構築支援プログラムにも積極的に参画している。シュミット博士は、2017年1月に本学で開催されたシンポジウムにスイス産業界を代表する形で参加し、教育・研究における国際産学連携の重要性を強調する講演を行った。シュミット博士の東大との交流はロシュ社内でも特筆すべき業績として評価されている。

Research Field: Dr. Schmidt has been in important positions in the biopharmaceutical manufacturing division of a pharmaceutical company, Roche (headquartered in Basel, Switzerland). From 2012 to 2017, he headed a production site with 1,500 employees, and currently, he is managing the investment projects all over the world. In parallel, Dr. Schmidt has been actively engaged in education and research at the neighboring universities. From 2001 to 2012, he was a part-time lecturer of “Quality Management in Pharmaceutical Business”, a common lecture of pharmacy at ETH Zurich and University of Basel. From these universities, Dr. Schmidt hosted five PhD students, and provided the research opportunities. Also, Dr. Schmidt has been hosting more than 30 internship-students from the neighboring universities including Technical University of Munich.

Collaboration in Education and Research: Dr. Schmidt has been contributing to education and research of UTokyo from the standpoint of international industry. Since 2014 in Department of Chemical System Engineering, he has been conducting an international research project on pharmaceutical process optimization, and also organizing a summer internship program with hosting one graduate student for two months every year. Dr. Schmidt is also committed to the SGU strategic partnership project between ETH Zurich and UTokyo. He joined a symposium held in January 2017 at UTokyo as a representative participant from the Swiss industry, and held a talk with international industry-academia collaborations in education and research. At Roche, Dr. Schmidt’s collaboration with UTokyo is recognized as an outstanding achievement.

his earlier, highly cited work, is on this general subject. However, over time, his motivation in these studies has gone beyond surface structure determination to coupling structural information to more applied areas such as the study of thin film growth on an atomic level, or the self-assembly of atomic scale or nanometer scale structures during growth. These research areas have been absorbed under the general title of “nanotechnology”, but the detailed study of the growth and synthesis of materials that are structured on the atomic or nanometer scale is nothing new. Prof. Nogami’s current work focuses on the growth behavior of organic molecules that are commonly used in organic electronics, and the influence of interfacial molecular alignment on device performance.

Collaboration in Education and Research: Since 2003, the UT2-workshop (Univ. of Tokyo & Univ. of Toronto workshop) aiming to exchange both graduate students has been held and continued to the present. Meanwhile, about 350 oral students oral presentations and more than 50 faculty invited lectures have been presented. Prof. Nogami has fully suported the UT2-workshop as the faculty who is in charge of the this event at Troronto side since 2004, and tehrefore has made a great contribution to the education of our university.

専門：趙勝川教授は都市交通計画を研究分野とし、主に交通行動分析に焦点を当て研究を行ってきた。現在は、中国国家自然科学基金委員会から複数の研究助成金を取得し、①中国自動車保有及び使用に関する研究、②誘発交通量に関する基礎的な研究、③スマホデータを用いた高度な交通行動分析、④インフラ整備における官民連携（PPP）に関する研究、⑤道路交通事故の外部費用の計測方法などに多岐にわたって研究を行っている。その研究成果をTransportationResearchPartAやJournalofTransport Geographyなどの交通分野のトップジャーナルに発表している。2015年9月フィリピンで開催されたアジア交通学会（EASTS：EasternAsia Society for TransportationStudies）大会において “TheBest PaperAward forTheoreticalDevelopment”を受賞している。

交流：大連理工大学国際合作交流処処長として、大連理工大学と生産技術研究所との交流協定の更新や、大連理工大学と東京大学工学部との交流協定（学術交流協定及び学生交流に関する覚書）の締結の、まとめ役を果たしている。以来、約100名以上の交換留学生や短期留学生を東京大学工学部に派遣し、工学系の教員を大連理工大学に招聘し、セミナーや講演会を開催するなど、相互の交流を深めてきた。また、COEプロジェクト（cSUR：CenterforSustainableUrbanRegeneration）海外協力メンバーとして、大連ワークショップ（2005年3月）やソウルワークショップ（2006年2月）、東京シンポジウム（2007年1月）に参加し、論文発表や講演を行っており、その研究成果が、Springerに出版された「SustainableUrbanTransportinanAsianContext」や「SustainableCityRegions:Space,PlaceandGovernance」に収録されている。なお、2016年度日本土木学会国際活動協力賞を受賞している。

専門：Xing教授は一貫して，生物育種・酵素工学・環境バイオ・バイオエネルギー等の分野で、学術ばかりでなく産業上の価値も高い研究成果を上げてきている。特に考案した生物育種機器は、世界中のバイオ産業や研究機関で広く利用され、第45回ジェネバ国際発明展覧会金賞を受賞している。これらの研究成果と卓越したマネジメント能力に基づき，Biochem.Eng. J.誌のAssociate Edi-torを始め、EnzymeMicrob.Technol., J. Biotechnol,Ind.Biotechnol.等、生物工学分野の国際誌でEditorialboardを務めるている。

交流：本学工学系研究科と清華大学・ソウル国立大学との交流協定（2005年）に基づき、生物工学分野における化学・生命系三専攻やバイオエンジニアリング専攻（2006年の発足以降）と清華大学との交流において、10年以上に渡り、清華大学側の化工系・バイオメディカルエンジニアリング系の代表として中心的役割を果たしている。現在まで2名の清華大生が、同教授の紹介で工学系研究科にて博士号を取得している。

Research Field: Prof. Xin-Hui XING has consistently contributed to the research areas of biobreeding, enzyme engineering, environmental bioengineering and bioenergy in terms of not only academic but also industrial aspects. In particular, the biobreeding apparatus developed by him has widely been used worldwide and he was awarded with Gold Medal of the 45th Geneva International Inventions (2017). On the basis of such excellent research and outstanding management capability, he is working as an associate editor of Biochem. Eng. J and as board members of various international journals such as Enzyme Microb.Technol., J. Biotechnol or Ind. Biotechnol.

Collaboration in Education and Research: On the basis of agreement among the Graduate School of Engineering, UTokyo, Tsinghua University and Seoul national University, initially three chemistry and biotechnology-related departments in the Engineering School, UTokyo and later Bioengineering departments have hold various exchange activities for over 10 years. In these mutual exchanges, he has really been the representative of academic community of not only chemical engineering but also biomedical engineering, Tsinghua University. Through his introduction, two Chinese students from Tsinghua University successfully obtained their Ph.D. at Graduate School of Engineering, UTokyo.

Collaboration in Education and Research: As the director of international office of Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Prof. Zhao played a key role for the renewal of the academic exchange agreement between DUT and IIS, The University of Tokyo (UT), as well as for the establishment of student exchange program between DUT and School of Engineering, UT. About 100 hundreds students from DUT have been sent to UT and a number of UT professors have been invited to give seminars and lectures at DUT. He also collaborated with COE project called as Center for Sustainable Urban Regeneration cSUR and attended the workshops and symposiums and co-authored chapters in the books titled as “Sustainable Urban Transport in an Asian Context” and “Sustainable City Regions: Space, Place and Governance”. Prof. Zhao received International Outstanding Collaboration Award from Japan Society of Civil Engineers in 2016.
