  • 2. Providing Feedback in an Online Course Providing quality feedback is important in any class. It is especially important when instructing an online course. In online courses, students can quickly feel alienated if feedback is not received in a timely manner ("Communication In Online Courses: Strategies For Providing Feedback", 2010). The following is a compilation if strategies and techniques that are available to instructors working in an online environment.
  • 3. Methods for Editing Most Microsoft documents offer editing programs through the use of the review button. This allows instructors to edit submitted documents and give learners a visual cue for the instructors suggestions.
  • 4. Methods for Editing The video on the right introduces GradeMark, an application that is included with a paid subscription to www.turnitin.com. A major component of GradeMark is its editing program for instructors. GradeMark also offers additional tools which could be beneficial to online instructors.
  • 5. Generic Rubric - Paper Rubrics are excellent ways to communicate an instructors expectations for an assignment to students. This rubric can fit most any graduate level writing assignment. The rubric is hyperlinked to the source website.R

  • 7. Socratic Questioning Techniques Socratic questions help students clarify their knowledge. Socratic Questioning is a way for an instructor to model critical thinking by probing students understanding of a course topic. They are very useful for online instructors have to manage discussion boards each week (Rubin, 2012). Click Icon to see examples
  • 8. Reflection and Review Strategies Reflection and review strategies are important because they allow students to give feedback to the instructor.   • 9. Positive Reinforcement Methods Positive reinforcement is key in an online course, as it reinforces and encourages student motivation; which is a driving factor for success in this type of environment. Examples: Extra Credit Providing encouraging feedback Praising good ideas in discussions
  • 10. Conclusion Instructor feedback is necessary for online instruction from start to finish. Instructors must keep in mind that it is their communication skills that will keep students motivated to continue giving all of their effort in a course. In order to keep students motivated, feedback and communication must be consistent and thorough.
