• The GIO of the FCC has been assigned a number of task. An overarching goal of the FCC is to open access to data and promote that access, thus making the data more usable. This session will highlight some of the things NSGIC can expect to see in the coming year.

Broadband Tests and Registry

• Broadband Quality Tests– Fixed (Ookla and M-Lab)

• Collects street address and diagnostic data

– Mobile broadband test (iPhone/Apple + Android/Google)• Collects Lat/Long location and diagnostic data

• Purposes:– Raise awareness of the importance of broadband

availability and connection quality– Serve as an initial phase of more precise broadband

quality performance tools (as Rec’d in the plan)– Collect crowd-sourced data for the National Broadband

• “Test my connection” should be released tomorrow (3/9)– Ookla, M-Lab and iPhone/Android app

• We will be using the data to help with validating the National Broadband Map

• We want to hear ideas on how best to do this.
