the shortest month of the year, but it also marks the

month of love and remembrance of Black history.

!is month is all about spreading the love, as we

celebrate Valentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or in

a relationship, Valentines Day is a day to express your

appreciation to the ones you love.

In addition to spreading the love February also is a month to highlight some of the great

accomplishments of African Americans. Black History Month is an annual celebration of

the achievements by African Americans and recognizing all that they have accomplished.

!is month also gives us excuses to take the time to learn about our forefathers.

February is the month of Love, but more importantly, it�’s Black History Month. African American�’s have contributed or invented numerous things that we use on a daily basis. From the super soaker, to spark plugs for a car, to a coin changer. The list goes on and on.

Throughout this month of February, let us keep in mind the role of Black History in our nation�’s narrative. And as the calendar turns to March, our homes, schools, churches, and town halls need to execute the vision of our forefathers, and make

When most people talk about “climbing Everest” its not a lit-eral mountain, But at 13 Jordan Romero, became the youngest person to climb Mount Everest

and at 15 he became the youngest climber in the world to complete the Seven Summits (the highest peaks on the globe). He was inspired to climb the tallest mountains of each continent when he saw a painting in the hallway of his school that had the sev-en continents’ highest mountains. Romero’s climb has sparked controversy as to whether teens should even be allowed to attempt such dangerous feats, and has sparked age restrictions in several areas, but no one can dispute that when it comes to setting and achieving goals, Jordan’s story is one of truly conquering mountains.

How did it feel to be the youngest American moun-tain climber to climb Mount Everest? It was amazing. When I stood on the top I kind of couldn’t believe I was there. I worked so hard toward this part of my goal and standing up there on the summit I had to pinch myself to

What are some of your other hobbies that you like to do for fun? Freestyle skiing. That’s what I would choose to do 24/7 if I could. But when the snow melts I also like mountain biking, stand up paddling, kayaking, hiking and running.

What do you like most about climbing? I like the fact that you work really hard and then you actually get to a finish point. I love standing on the summit and looking back to where I started. I also like standing at the bottom of a mountain and looking up to see where we’ve been.

What is your favorite country that you have climbed a summit in? I think my favorite now is Antarctica. Its not really a country, but it’s an incredible place.

What inspired you to write “The Boy Who Conquered Everest: The Jordan Romero Story”? I wanted to share my story with other kids to inspire them to work towards a healthy body and a healthy planet. The book was a natural way to share my message.

How do you balance school and your hobbies? I be-lieve the whole world is my classroom. Every trip I go home with so much knowledge of the world. I learn about myself, about different cultures, different people, different places, and life. Yes, I work hard to keep up on my school studies while I’m gone. Sometimes it’s hard, but when I am at school I work really hard.

Your parents are very supportive, were they ever hesitant? They were never hesitant. They were support-ive from the start. They helped me train and prepare. It wasn’t always easy, but I was always ready when we got to the mountains. I always say that my parents gave me the gift of “yes.”

Have you ever had a scary close to near death mountain scare? Yes, we were very close to an avalanche on Mt. Everest. It was pretty scary.

What are 3 must have items you have to have to climb a mountain? #1. A good team #2. Strong legs #3. Water

How rigorous is the workout routine to prepare for climbing? Its been different for each mountain, but I train

with a 50-60 lb pack and do a lot of uphill hiking.

What do you do when you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of a climb? I go to the bathroom. Depending on the mountain there are protocols for where you can go. Sometimes you have to wait for a specific place that is designated for going to the bathroom.

Are you a good student? I like to say that I am a really good student of the World. Taking tests … well that’s not my favorite.

What do your friends think of your lifestyle? They think what I am doing is pretty cool. They are proud of me.

What advice would you give to a teen your age try-ing to pursue Mountain Climbing or any tough goal? I tell everyone that they have to find a goal that they are passionate about. Then they have to tell people about it, find people who can help and support them. Start by telling their parents about their dreams. Then it’s just one step at a time and NEVER ever giving up.

I worked so hard toward this part of my goal and standing up there on the summit I had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming or awake.

I never thought I’d be thought of as the school slut. I have to admit I was guilty of assuming that when someone got

called a slut that they somehow deserved the title. Now it has happened to me. No one can really imagine how horrible it is to be called a slut. As bad as you think it might be, I assure you it’s probably about a million times worse.

It all went down for me on the first day of school junior year. Well it was my first day. I had appendicitis over the summer and had missed the first week. But nevertheless, that morning I was excited. For the first time in recent memory my mom had actually let me buy the outfit I really wanted, I was more than halfway toward being a senior and I was determined that THIS was going to be my year. As I walked down the halls though, something was strange. It seemed like people were pointing at me and snickering. The people I knew weren’t really saying “hi”. Then it happened, as I left class right before lunch a voice yells “whore” down the hallway. Could they be talking to me? Why? At that point I honestly didn’t know.

I don’t have tons of friends, I’m not one of those girls that people follow around and try to imitate, but I had a small group that I hung out with and this year we were going to take over. But as I approach our usual spot near the stairs I notice they are avoiding me, really not talking to me, or even looking at me. “K” turns to me with a look I’ve never seen before and says in the meanest voice possible “you really don’t think you’re going to hang out with us do you?” At this point I’m stuck on stupid. I can’t move, I can’t talk. I wonder if she’s joking, but the way she and three other members of my (I guess former) group are looking at me I know they’re not. I find my voice and try to ask what’s wrong, but they act like I’m not even there, so I walk away.

All I can think is what in the world happened. I had broken my phone before I went to the hospital. Recuperation at my grandmas had meant no internet so I had been out of touch. I hustled to the media center dying to get my hands on a computer. I log into Facebook to check my page and then I see it … a string of posts, calling me all sorts of names, guys I don’t even know claiming to have done things with me and worst of all my supposed friend K seeming to lead it all. I track back to see when this had all happened. It had started the day I went to the hospital, and then I knew. I had had a crush on “S” for most of 10th grade and when he started acting interested in me over the summer I was excited. The day before I ended up doubled over in pain from appendicitis, I had let “S” come over to my house when my mom wasn’t home, but then his friend “D” came too. Their plan was that we all hook up, but I said no. I didn’t like his friend, but even if I did, K liked D and there was no way I would do anything with the guy she liked. I was embarrassed, I thought S really liked me and I swore I wouldn’t say anything to anybody if they didn’t either. I was prepared to take the humiliation of that day to my grave but apparently either S or D or both had told the whole school we had done stuff and now everyone thought I was a whore. K believed I would get with her guy and everyone else just hated me for my perceived sluttiness. I cried and wished immediately I could just die, the horrible part was that it seemed like the whole school felt I deserved to.

The year I thought might be my best quickly became my worst. K and my ex

friends did everything they could to turn as many people as possible against me. A day didn’t go by without at least one person calling me a whore or a slut in the hallways, or as I waited for the bus or in a whisper as I passed their desk in class. During class was halfway ok, but lunch was brutal. With no one to talk to and nowhere to be I spent most of my lunch periods trying to discover new hiding places where I could disappear. S and D refused to undo the lie, both gaining a new status from it. I stopped posting or even signing in to facebook because every time I did someone would decide to post something about me or tell me to stay away from their man. I accidentally left my backpack in class once and when I got it back someone had written “Die stupid b*%@#” on it with a sharpie. I used to love school but now I hated it. I finally asked my mom if I could transfer or even be homeschooled but she wouldn’t let me.

I hate to say it but I really started to identify with those kids you hear about on the news who just finally thought it might be better to hang themselves. The guys that didn’t lie and say we had already done stuff would ask me to do stuff like I wasn’t supposed to say no and on a certain level I started to believe that maybe what everyone thought about me was true. Maybe I should just be the whore everyone thought I already was; maybe then they’d leave me alone. I didn’t see a way out of my situation and I didn’t feel like I was strong enough to survive either.

I honestly don’t know what would have happened to me if three things hadn’t come to save me. The first was an unexpected friend. “A” was a senior, homecoming queen and one of those girls that was popular because she wasn’t afraid of anybody and never apologized for being herself. By some miracle she adopted me. They say the enemy of your enemy is your friend and “A” had never been the biggest fan of “K”. “You know, they’re all just jealous of you right?” she said as she caught me trying to stuff my vandalized backpack into my gym locker. I couldn’t imagine that anyone in the world would want to be me at that moment. But after that “A” gave me a form of acceptance. I didn’t become part of the in crowd or anything, but I developed a clique of people who weren’t afraid to talk to me and the incidents of me being called names lessened a little. The second thing was that my teacher had recommended me for an internship program and they accepted me. The internship allowed me to leave campus early several days a week, giving me additional relief from the torture but it also gave me something to feel good about. I finally had an area of my life where I was thought of as smart, helpful and valuable instead of as a worthless whore. And the third thing was the junior/senior powderpuff football game. Because of my relationship with “A” I ended up playing with the seniors (she insisted and everyone listened). I played well and walked away with a new name and reputation that I didn’t mind so much … “bad a$$”.

I would like to say this was like the movies and afterward all was good and I was never referred to as a slut again, that I could roam the halls freely and be accepted into any group, but it’s not a movie and despite my small victories, the rumors lingered, though they were a lot less intense. I can’t say I loved school again, but I didn’t hate it as much either. I also learned that saying stuff like “Did you see what she was wearing?”, “Does she know she looks like a _____” or “she’s such a slut, she’s been with like every dude” isn’t fair, isn’t cool and needs to stop. You could think it’s true and be totally wrong, or even if it is true no one deserves to be treated like I was.

My all time favorite holiday in Feb is Val-entines Day. I love passing out valentine cards to my friends at school. My mom would always get the ones that came with candy. Who will be your Valentine this year and what will you be getting them. Here are a few celebrities who have spent big bucks on their loves in the past. After making a diss song to her ex- boyfriends new girlfriend.

One of Dev’s friends posted the song on myspace. The song

was then noticed by one of the producers of The Cateracs. The

Cateracs reached out to Dev. A freshman in College Dev dropped

out of college to pursue her love of music. Signed to Indie-Pop.

Her Pursuit led to the happiness of tons of fans. You may be

familiar with her voice from Far East Movement “Like a G6.” In

Novemeber 2010 Dev debuted her first single “Base Down Low.”

Dev’s album “The night the sun came up” is scheduled to release

March 27, 2012. You maybe familiar with her second single the

“In the Dark” it was peaked #10 in the US

chart making it her most successful single

to date. But Dev had definitely been brought

out of the dark and into the spotlight. We

sat down with the new mom to discuss the

behind the scenes of the music business.


CH: What was your family’s reaction when you told them you

wanted to become a singer? Were they supportive?D: They were very supportive. My parents were always the people who told me “it doesn’t matter what you do devin, just do your absolute best, always give your 100%. Do whatever makes you happy because you only live once” which is com-pletely rad right?

CH: Growing up what music did you hear and which artists inspired you?D: I listened to everything from Snoop and Eminem to the Cranberries and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I was the kid who loved Outkast and Elton john. My parents were very good at playing me a little bit of everything.

CH: Who do you get your style from? What do you think makes your style so unique?D: I love clothes, my mother is a big inspiration. I grew up with her always pushing the fashion envelope. I love a bunch of dif-ferent styles from men’s wear to really tailored women’s wear too loud bright colors too very neutral colors. I work a lot with the women street wear brand HELLZ-BELLZ and I look up to MISS LAWN for everything. She’s pretty much a genius.

CH: What inspires your songs?D: I get inspired by love, heartbreak, clothes, boys, girls, cities, landscapes, colors, weather, anything really, just depends on my mood.

CH: How do you define your type of music and songs?D: Some of my music is very hip hop influenced while some is more “dance” influenced, I just make what I know.

CH: How would you describe your album?D: It’s my rags to riches story. Listen to all of the words and you’ll learn a lot about me

CH: Can you tell CH readers about one of your most memorable recording sessions?D: Geeezzz! I mean being in the studio with Travis Barker = the shiznit or when I was in the studio with Timbaland = the shiznit or 50 cent = the shiznit!! but I really enjoy when my boy the Cateracs and I work on music every time with them is the best!

CH: Do you remember the first time you heard your song on the radio?D: Yea, I was in Berkeley California picking up burritos for the Cataracs and myself and I heard our song. It was the best feel-ing in the world! And the burritos were great too.

CH: What is it like taping a music video?D: It’s a gnarly process; very time consum-ing, but I love it. I love putting visuals to my songs just as much as I enjoy making the music.

CH: What is it like being a women and working in the entertainment industry?D: It can be difficult and ugly. Everyone wants to change something or some one. It’s a vey male dominated indus-try. But I work really hard and I don’t ever let anyone push me around, so it’s been good.

CH: What are some challenges you have overcome?D: Being open and vulnerable. It took me a good year or two to get comfortable with myself and then get comfy around others when it came to pouring my feelings out on these songs. Performing and making music is the best feeling in the world and I am really proud that I let my guard down when it

came to my artistry. It’s the only way.

CH: What is some advice that you would give to the youth trying to become an artist?D: Be yourself, stand for yourself and be your own biggest fan. Overlook the drama and never, ever, ever, stop believing.

CH: Besides singing and performing are there other things you would like to accomplish?D: Right now I am completely confident in who I am as an artist and what I am going to bring to the table. Next on my list is motherhood! I have just entered this new venture and I couldn’t be more excited then to share my love and passion with yet another little human, who I happened to create!! It is rad.

CH: How will you juggle being a mom and a talented artist?D: There is no other option that’s how. I just have to do it so I am!

CH: Is being a successful artist everything you thought it would be like?D: I would like to think I am successful to a certain extent but there is so much more I want to accomplish and need to ac-complish before I have the right to answer this question.

CH: What are three must haves for you when you are on the road?D: My Mac book, cell phone & eye liner.

Every serious college application

advice source will tell you that

acceptance is not just about

grades and test scores. Most

campuses want well rounded

students, so extracurricular ac-

tivities matter. But that’s no secret so some

students try to do it all. Is there someone in

your school who plays four sports; is an officer

in all six clubs they belong to; volunteers at the

local animal shelter, nursing home and home-

less shelter while holding a 4.0? Admissions

officers go through hundreds or thousands

of applications each semester, they can spot

a padded list of extracurriculars from a mile

away. Frantically joining any group that will let

you just to impress college admissions boards

isn’t going to go over easily or well. So what

should be your strategy? How many keep you

interesting without looking like a fake? What

can you do to be appealing to colleges without

signing up for every and any extracurricular

activity that could look good on your resume

whether you actually like it or not?

MAKE YOUR ACADEMICS A PRIORITY Ultimately, your academics are the number one priority throughout high school. Becoming overly involved in one or many out-of-school activities can take away from your study time and negatively affect your grades, which will influence your chances of admission the most. Remember that academics come first and consider lessening the extracurricular load if it begins to feel too heavy or take away from your grades

FOCUS ON QUALITY, NOT QUANTITYThe number one thing to remember about ex-tracurriculars is that it’s not the number that counts, but the depth of your involvement in the activity. Admission officers are more likely to consider an applicant who is very commit-ted to one or two activities, rather than a stu-dent who’s taken on many activities and hasn’t

shown serious commitment to any single one. Colleges want students who can bring unique skills and interests to the campus. The em-phasis should be on quality, not quantity, and depth, not breadth. Focus on extracurriculars to which you are truly devoted, than to load up on superficial activities that you don’t care much about.

DO CONSIDER YOUR TALENTS AND INTERESTS Put some thought into which activities you take on in high school. After all, each group you join or volunteer assignment you spearhead will take valuable time and energy. Look at your talents and passions and choose accordingly. A gifted writer might benefit more from a spot on the school newspaper than a position on student council, for example. There will always be popular activities or groups you feel might impress admissions officers more than others. But stick to your real interests and trust that that will shine through in your application.

DEMONSTRATE LEADERSHIP SKILLSbeing president of a group or captain of a team isn’t the only way to demonstrate leadership. Titles aren’t what matter. What you do matters. You can be president of the Key Club, but a vanilla member who takes the initiative to set up an after-school tutoring program, recruits fellow students to staff it, etc. is going to have a better experience from much more believable and persuasive essay when she writes about her passion for helping others, to say nothing of better recs. You can also show initiative by starting a group on your own For example, start a book group or public speaking club in your school. If you’re passionate about the topic and you don’t see anything else like it at your school, go for it!

USE YOUR SUMMERInvolving yourself in extracurricular activities during summer will allow you to demonstrate other important qualities that grades alone don’t reveal, such as an ability to work with others, a sense of responsibility and personal commitment without interrupting school or study time. Show initiative by getting a job or pursuing a service-based activity in an area that interests you.

CYBER PATRIOTS

TECHNOLOGY

Movies like The Social Network and Gamer made the world of computer hacking, cracking and cyber security cool. CyberPatriot is the premier

national high school cyber defense competition that is designed to give hands on exposure to the foundations of cyber security. While it is not a hacking competition, it is an opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade of cyber security. CyberPatriot’s goal is to keep students excited about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.

In each competition round, students are provided one to three virtual machines. These machines contain several vulnerabilities, and students must clean the image of them within a set amount of time. Teams that find the most vul-nerabilities pass on to the next round, and the winners of all three rounds compete in the National Championships in Washington, D.C. and this year L.A. is “representin’”!

26 Beyond the Bell teams from the ‘Take Action’ High School Leadership Campaign entered the 2012 Cyber-Patriot competition against over 700 teams from ROTC units and public high schools across the nation. Reseda

High scored high in the third round and is one of 12 ROTC teams to go to Washington in March. So far they are the only team from California going to D.C.

Work is the key. Students put in up to twenty hours a week grinding for the competition, learning all about computer systems and picking up tricks to stop hackers. During the year students get to study with computer experts from Cal Poly Pomona, Aerospace Corporation, and LA Southwest College, and even get college credit. It’s easy to see why the program has doubled in one year. The program also awards scholarships, and many of the students get sum-mer jobs in the computer industry. Did we mention that every student that gets to the nationals gets to keep his or her computer?

Three other BTB schools are still in the running Frank-lin, Kennedy, and Lincoln High. Last year two BTB teams went to Washington. The trip was an all-expense paid ride to the Gaylord resort in Maryland, just outside of DC. By the time this issue is printed we will see who gets to Wash-ington besides Reseda. People often think of, eating disorders being a teenage girl’s problem. But experts say so-called “manorexia” along with the body dysmorphia condition of “bigorexia” – men who become ever more muscle-bound in their obsessive pursuit of the perfect six-pack body, are on the rise as more and more men begin to the feel the pressure of developing the perfect body. Skinny-chic is in and everywhere. From

super skinny jeans, to magazine cover boys sporting zero percent body fat around six-pack abs, to malnourished looking rock bands and celebs such

as Russell Brand, the pressure isn’t just on girls anymore. Possibly as a result the National Eating Disorder Association, says that more than a million men and boys battle the illness every day. With many experts agreeing that the number is probably higher because many cases go unreported.

We don’t see much in the press about men and eating disorders but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a very real problem. Whether men are developing the “excessively muscular or excessively skeletal” shape, said Dr John Morgan, a leading eating order specialist, the risks are high. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates of all psychiatric illnesses.

While many men develop eating disorders for the same reasons women will — genetics, low self-esteem, trauma, and cultural influences — some risk factors for developing an eating disorder are specific to men. Men who were teased for being overweight as children and athletes who must maintain a certain weight for performance reasons are more at risk for developing eating disorders. This being the

case men’s obsession with weight can often appear as excessive exercise. Instead of striving to be super thin, men will often strive to appear lean and muscular by dramatically decreasing their percentage of body fat. Losing weight and trying to bulk up are not bad goals, but they become unhealthy behaviors once it turns into a desire for physical perfection.

Women continue to outnumber the number of males with eating disorders. However, this doesn’t mean that men aren’t impacted by them as well. Though muscular jocks once ruled the landscape of teen movies and tv shows, skinny, boney boys are considered ‘hot’ right now and are portrayed positively in TV shows and an article in New York Magazine explains how new styles are suggesting that men slim down their body for the “trendiest, string-beaniest clothing.” Men are also under pressure to appear strong and independent. They have a harder time than women expressing their emotions and don’t want others to know they are struggling with any issues, let alone their appearance.

Unfortunately many guys, especially heterosexual ones, don’t get help when they need it because of the perception that the only people who get eating disorders are teenage girls and gay men. For many heterosexual men, and even many homosexuals, anorexia carries an even greater stigma than it does for women, making it hard for them to seek treatment.

“It was incredibly difficult for me to face this problem because it’s always considered a girl’s disease,” says a male anorexia sufferer. “There’s that macho thing where you feel like you can’t do anything girly. It’s like being forced to wear pink.”

If there is one thing all of the experts agree on when it comes to males and eating disorders (and there isn’t much), it’s that recovery is only possible with treatment. And treatment, of course, is only possible with the admission that a problem exists. Some may laugh and say that guys can’t have eating disorders, but this is serious stuff and people have to treat eating disorders as the life-threatening illnesses that they are.

Based on the title you may assume that I’m totally gross and have a third arm, or you might assume that I’m about to rant about how lonely I am and how all I really, really want is a boyfriend of my own. I hate to disappoint but you’d be wrong on both counts. I have all of the correct number of body parts

and everything. I’m just guessing there are lots of people out there like me, you’re in high school, and whether you’re a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior, you are significant other-less and always have been. I suppose this situation makes some people super depressed, but to me being single ain’t all that bad. No anniversaries to worry about, no dating drama (or cheating drama) and no one going around referring to you as “boo bear” (yuk, I hate pet names). Ok, I admit a lot of people love that stuff. But seriously I’ve learned some stuff being single.

Being single through high school has made me like one of those daytime talk show hosts that knows whats going to happen before it does because they’ve seen it all, and learned from it; an observer of all things love and relationships. I am the one who listens while you go on endlessly about your date with so-and-so last weekend and later about how you caught him talking someone else. I am the person who sees you slug around in sweat pants as you grieve the end of your three week relationship with “the one”. I am person who helps you decode his text messages down to last character. Yep I see it all. And through it all, I’ve learned many, many things. Though there are exceptions to every rule, and any statistic I throw out there is probably wrong, it’s what I learned, so just go with it. Firstly, ninety percent of the time, singleness is your own fault. Yes, I’m talk-ing to you, guy who says he’s too busy to date, girl who says that no guy is worth her time because they are all jerks or person who insists they people who (insert list of a hundred items here). They are excuses. Excuses, ex-

cuses, excuses. And the crazy part is, people think your excuses and rejections are real or some form of egotism. And that you’re some mean-girl witch because you can’t seem to go out with that perfectly decent guy. Now I must point out ( to avoid all hypocrisy) that I am the queen of all this. But truthfully, the excuses derive from nothing of that sort. Do you want to know the real reason? They’re scared. I’m scared. We’re scared of feeling vulnerable; of putting our feelings out in the middle of the street to get run over by a truck (that possibly backs up and runs us over again, then video tapes it and puts it on youtube). We’re afraid of wanting something that we can’t have, of being disappointed, and worse of all of having it all go down in public. If you’re honest (like really honest) you know offers have been made, interest has been expressed, and people have taken a chance on you. And you’ve said she wasn’t good looking enough, or he didn’t have a car, or they (fill in random excuse here). You can complain and moan about being single, but nothing will change unless you build a bridge over your fears and take a chance on somebody too. As I learned from Anne Hathaway in the Princess Diaries (don’t judge me) courage is not the absence of fear but the decision that something is greater than the fear. Which is important because I’ve also learned that fear is one of the greatest enemies in love and relationships. It gets in the way of potentially great things. So you’ve got to decide that love is greater than fear.

Through my single years, I’ve also learned that once you’ve been officially snatched up, and you’ve gotten a taste, THERE IS NO GOING BACK. I’ve witnessed countless friends experience their first relationships, and when that relationship comes to a mighty end, nothing is ever the same again. They all undergo this identical change. It’s a soul-crushing blow, they are the picture of death for awhile, they wonder if life will ever return. Then they start to wonder when exactly that is going to happen again. It’s a beauti-ful example of human’s ability to rebound. So if you’re sick and tired of the irritating thoughts of “WHY AM I SINGLE?!!?” that just floats around in your brain, I guess you can consider yourself lucky because the way I see it, “I NEED TO BE IN A RELATIOSHIP! THIS REMINDS ME OF HER…I MISS HIM…REMEMBER WHEN WE USED TO…” is just so much more depressing. So take my advice, if you’re not ready to dive in those waters, don’t. Seriously. I’ve had one too many friends zone out in class on that one person…four months after the breakup…

Now for the positive. I’ve learned that I don’t need a guy to be happy, for now. I’m not planning on being the forty year old version or a hermit or anything. Sure, sometimes I’m lonely, or wish I was assured a date to this or that, but its not an bottomless pit of darkness and depression. This is not an excuse. I mean it. There really is just so much more in life to be happy about. I guess my main point is that through my single years, I learned that I get to focus on myself. I get to grow to be the kind of person I want to be without having to think of someone else, and molding myself to whatever I think might make them happy. So fear not, my fellow singles, because if there is something else I learned about being single in high school, it’s that there’s life after it.
