testing and the kids are showing us that they have
already learned a great deal this year. We continue to
focus our efforts to provide every student as GES
with an education designed to meet their individual
needs and capitalize on every child's unique set of
skills. We know that our student's success at school
starts at home and want to provide families with as
much support and resources as possible. Countless
studies identify reading with your children as having
a positive effect on brain development. As a
working parent of elementary-aged children myself,
I know first hand that sometimes life doesn't always
provide as many opportunities for this as I would
like. Moby Max and Lexia are two research-based
programs that students use. Moby Max is a digital
learning tool that finds and fixes learning gaps with
adaptive, differentiated learning. Lexia is
a program that provides systematic, personalized
learning in the six areas of reading instruction,
targeting skill gaps as they emerge, and providing
teachers with the data and student-specific resources
they need for individual or small-group
instruction. Epic is a reading resource for
computers or tablets that students can use at home
to support their learning. Epic is free for teachers
but does have a fee for at home use. Ask your child's
teacher if you would like more information on how
to use these tools.
We are looking forward to seeing you all on
February 14th and 15th at Parent/Teacher
Conferences.

February is dental health awareness month. Dentists recommend brushing your
teeth for 2 minutes twice a day. Most people don’t look forward to the dentist’s
drill, so why not prevent that from happening by practicing proper dental
hygiene?
Proper Brushing Tips:
Hold your brush at a 45 degree angle and gently brush from your gum line down.
Use the same method to brush the entire surface of each tooth.
Using a timer set for 2 minutes or listening to a song can be a great indicator that you are brushing for an appropriate amount of time.
Flossing- What’s that about?
Brushing is important, but it won’t clean those hard to reach areas like between teeth, under braces and under the gum line. You should floss at least once daily. Most dentists recommend unwaxed floss because it is thinner and easily slides between teeth; however, most studies have shown that any floss will do the job.
Nutrition Connection
We all know that consuming sugary foods or drinks is a major cause of tooth decay. It’s not just how much sugar you consume, how and when can also have a major impact. Eating sugary foods or sipping sugary drinks all day long causes constant acid exposure to tooth enamel. This leads to tooth break down and decay. Experts suggest taking at least a 3 hour break between consumption of sugary foods. Choose healthy snacks like raw vegetables, cheese and yogurt.
You should have regular preventative check ups with your dentist twice a year. The goal is to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and other mouth disorders.
Whitening Products
Many toothpastes claim to whiten teeth and it’s ok to use these as long as the
toothpaste contains fluoride and ingredients to fight plaque and tartar. If
you are truly concerned about yellowing of your teeth, consult your dentist BEFORE
