Hymers Fair News

By Shannon Dodd-Smith

The new Leadership has been elected! Exactly at the publishing deadline, so I am leaving you

on the edge of your seats for the results. :)

I am not talking about the 2018 Municipal and Provincial Elections...but the Hymers

Agricultural Society Board of Directors, of course.

I think there are important similarities though. Like many elected officials:

- the Directors are community members who want to create a positive impact in the world

and our collective future

- they have skills and life experience to contribute to balanced decision-making

- they have to make important (group) decisions to allocate scarce resources in a fair way (no

pun intended!)

- they are building important professional and life skills

- are committed to doing the right thing

- they commit hours of their unpaid personal time to create something great for others.

I am sure any elected official could add to that illustrious list; but in carrying out those wonderful

things, the HAS Board does so in accordance with Robert's Rules, a Constitution, By-laws,

Provincial Legislation; and has the support/oversight of an Advisory Committee.

SO if that wasn't inspiring enough for you to throw your hat into the Municipal or Provincial ring

(but oh how I wish you would, especially if you bring age, gender and/or cultural diversity to the

table); maybe you would consider leading a Committee of the Board to get your feet wet for

Directorship in 2019!

Call Debbie at 475-8586 or email [email protected]. And you can always go to

hymersfair.com.

The March Ad will, among other news, introduce your new Board and share some important

updates for potential small animal exhibitors.

Happy Winter; and thanks for being part of the community!
