Greetings

Greetings Division Five!

Welcome to the February 2015 edition of the Key-Notes Division Five newsletter. This month has been

hectic, but it has also been productive. At our recent February Divisional (thanks to JFK for hosting), we

heard clubs reporting some outstanding activities. Leadership Training Conference is approaching, and

both the clubs and the board are gearing up for it; I know I couldn’t be more excited about it.

Yes, it has been a great month. As we move into the last month of the service year, it is time to finish up

strong as we lead up to LTC. If we finish the year with a bang, we could truly make a lasting difference in

our communities. Think about where we were when we started this year. Now think about how far we’ve

come. We have a website, we’ve chartered a new club, we’ve met at divisionals, we’ve been submitting

more and more of our paperwork, and we have 100 percent dues collection. Don’t be fooled, we have

work yet to do, and I have confidence in Lt. Governor Elect Max Perry’s ability to lead us the rest of the

way.

Being at the helm of this division has been an incredible experience, one that I will take with me wherev-

er I go for the rest of my life. The experiences I have had with our division have been unforgettable. I

thank every one of you for all of your service to your communities, to our organization, and to the world.

I have learned how much our division represents the uniqueness of and variation within Key Club. We

have clubs of all different shapes and sizes, but all of them are passionate about the work that we do, and

each and every one contributes to the causes of Key Club as an organization, but what’s more, we pave

the way for the future by working creatively with organizations and for causes that inspire us. It has been

my profound honor to work with each and every one of you, and I thank you all for that opportunity.

Please read through this newsletter for some great information and im-

portant reminders for the days and weeks to come.

Yours in Service,

Lt. Governor Matt Garber

Letter from LTG Elect

Hi. My name is Max Perry. It is a pleasure to be your next Lieutenant Governor of Divi-sion Five. I’m 15 years old, am a sophomore at Mepham High School, and my favorite thing to do is be comedic. However, I am very formal when I need to be, and, at times, there is nothing I like better than getting down to work. You may have seen me working the hotdog booth at the straw-berry festival or at the sweetest job at the Bellmore street fair: the cotton candy machine. I am a member of the Mepham drama program and of course, our local Key Club. They’re a hard work-ing bunch, and I like working with all of them. I love people, and I believe there is good in every person, which makes me very patient. Thank you and have a nice day.

Yours in Service, Max Perry Lt. Governor Elect

We are all looking forward to LTC. Here is a run-down of everything that you need to know.

It is March 27-29 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany.

It does not include transportation, which must be arranged individually.

Please contact your sponsoring Kiwanis ASAP for funding and transportation assis-

tance.

All attendees must sign up for the Division 5 LTC Remind Group by texting

Service Spotlights

Muffins in the Morning at Calhoun

Leading up to Calhoun High School’s Zumba Night on February 3rd, Key Clubbers woke up bright and early to sell muffins to fellow students each Thursday and Friday. What was called “Muffins in the Morning” was a huge success, setting off similar action around the school by oth-er clubs. Students and teachers alike began expecting the muffins, and the supply always quickly sold out. The early morning service took place for two weeks in and around KPLD Week, in or-der to raise awareness for the crippling disease. The revenue generated from the sales is enough to cover the cost of the Zumba instructor (who will cover the hour long session), with even a small surplus which will be donated in conjunction with Zumba Night for Pediatric Lyme Disease re-search.

Please come out to support your fellow Division 5 club on Tuesday, February 3rd for their

first ever Zumba Night Fundraiser. The event will take place from 5:30pm to 6:30pm in the San-

ford H. Calhoun High School gymnasium in Merrick. All proceeds will be donated to KPLD

foundation.

District Projects

Think about some of the great times that you have had during your childhood summers. Chances

are, many are thinking about something that happened at camp. Now think about all the people

who cannot go to camp, whether it be because of disability (physical or mental) or financial posi-

tion. The goal of Kamp Kiwanis is to end that feeling. Kamp Kiwanis, a New York District Kiwa-

nis Foundation charity, allows such children to spend weeklong sessions at a completely integrat-

ed summer camp without having to spend a single cent.

Kamp Kiwanis

How Can We Help?

Check out the Kamp’s website at kampkiwanis.org, or go to the New York District Kiwanis site.

You can also check out the Kamp Kiwanis Facebook page or email your Lt. Governor, Kiwanis

Lt. Governor, or local Kiwanis club to put you in contact with the Kamp.

Where Can We Find More Information?

Sponsor a Kamper to attend. You can email the Kamp Director for a list of attendees waiting for

sponsors or find your own attendee. You can buy a bench or a brick as well. There is also a list

available of desired donations that will allow Kamp Kiwanis to function for yet another year. You

can also donate items at the drive at Leadership Training Conference this year.
