The Beat Goes On It was frosty outside but the music sure heated things up inside Laura’s Center for the Arts at the Friends of Hanover Music’s Hooray for Hollywood Fundraiser last month. Spectacular performances from elementary, middle, and high school students were the icing on the cake for this wonderful event. We raised over $6500 between the event itself and the proceeds from the raffle calendar that we kicked off that night. We thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation! Please see pages 2 and 3 for photos and a list of sponsors, without whom the evening would not have been possible. As much fun as this was, we can’t lose sight of the purpose behind this and other fundraisers we hold. Musical scholarships and equipment and supplies, sheet music, and instruments for the schools’ music programs that the town doesn’t provide are a few of the expenses that your memberships and donations help pay for. FHM has also provided funds for supplemental instruction for 5 th grade band students. Those of us who care about musical education within as well as beyond the walls of the school building hope that this support will continue to enrich the lives of our kids and our community. If we can have some fun while we raise the money, all the better! Congratulations to the members of the HHS Jazz Ensemble for a superior performance at Wednesday night's MAJE Cape Cod/Costal Sr. Jazz Festival. Outstanding Musicianship Awards were presented to Jacob Prescott, Bobby McDermott, and Eric Smith, and together the band grooved their way to the only Gold Medal awarded to a Division II Band that night! This achievement allows the Jazz Ensemble to participate for the second year in a row at the MAJE Big Band State Finals in Framingham, MA, on March 29. Please contact Mr. Ketchen if you'd like to attend the festival as space on the bus is limited (you can always meet us there, though!) Performance times will be TBA until at least next weekend, so please be patient!
