No Car? No Problem!

Many of you are familiar with the buses that run

during the day from campus to various locations

around town. But what should you do if you want to

go someplace after the buses stop running?

Fortunately both Lawrence Transit and KU offer

options for you. Lawrence Transit offers the

Nightline and KU offers Safe Bus and Safe Ride.

The Nightline is a bus that operates after the regular

buses stop running. It operates from 8:00 p.m. to

6:00 a.m. You must call in advance to schedule your

ride. For example, if you know you want to go

downtown on Friday evening at 8:30, you can call

and schedule the bus to pick you up and take you

home. The fare is more expensive than the regular

buses. It’s $2.00 per person each way. That means, if

you ride downtown and back home again, the total

cost would be $4.00. You should call to schedule your

ride from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.

There is no Nightline service on Sundays.

KU offers the Safe Bus and Safe Ride. There are four

Safe Bus lines. You can find a map of the lines at

safebus.ku.edu/safebus-map. Safe Bus is free for all

KU students. Other passengers can take Safe Bus

only if they are with a KU student. It operates

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 p.m. to

3:00 a.m. Safe Ride is a car system. If you live outside

of the Safe Bus route, you can call Safe Ride. Safe

Ride is for KU students ONLY. It is free for KU

students. It operates from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.

every night of the week. You can call for a ride at

785-864-SAFE (7233). You can find more information

at saferide.ku.edu.
