Library Telescope Program
The Friends of the Claremont Library Board has formed a new partnership with the Pomona Valley Amateur Astronomers (PVAA) to start a Telescope Lending Program. Patterned after a similar program in New Hampshire, our library will have an Orion StarBlast Reflector telescope. It is a sturdy tabletop telescope that is considered appropriate for beginners. Patrons 18 years and older who hold a Claremont Library card - including parents - will be able to check out the telescope and take it home for one week at a time. A very user-friendly guide will come with the telescope to make it easy for borrowers to use. The new partnership with PVAA will include technical support of the equipment and educational presentations at the library. We will be holding a “Name That Telescope” contest soon! Entry forms will be available at the library next month. Check our website at www.claremontlibrary.org for more information as it becomes available.
NEW
Claremont: On The Same Page
The members of the “On The Same Page” committee have been hard at work reading and discussing many books, and we are close to choosing the selection for this year’s city-wide read. We are very excited to share our selection with the community! We will be announcing the book at the Claremont Children’s Book Festival event (see article on page one of this newsletter). Come join the festivities and find out what book we will all be reading together this summer!
The Friends of the Claremont Library Board is pleased to
welcome two new members to the Board to replace two
members who left for personal reasons. Kathie Rosacker
is a former children's librarian at La Verne Library and
Lynn Burrows has been a music teacher here in
Claremont for 17 years.
Books, Books, and More Books!
Mark your calendars for the Friends’ upcoming Book Sales; we have many of them planned! Our semi-annual Spring Book Sale is scheduled for April 26, 27, and 28, in the Library Activity Room. On Thursday April 26, our sale is open to Friends of the Library members only (4-7pm). Friends of the Library memberships can be purchased at the door. On Friday April 27 and Saturday April 28, the sale is open to the public (10am-4pm).
On Saturday May 5th from 10am - 4pm we are pleased to offer our Antiquarian/Fine Book Sale once again. At this sale we offer one-of-a-kind books in excellent condition. Come check out the amazing selection!
We are also having a special Science Fiction book sale to coincide with our library’s new telescope program (see article in this newsletter). Lewis, and Terry Brooks. Science Fiction books are now available in the bookstore, located at the east entrance of the library.
A special Thank You to two of our very generous book donors: Dale and Jan Sutton – Science Fiction books Robert L. Davis – History and Political Science books

Battery Recycling
Did you know the Claremont Library is a drop-off point for the recycling of used household batteries? Household batteries cannot be thrown in the regular trash since they pose a toxic risk to the environment. A recycling receptacle is at the west entrance of the library where you can dispose of your used batteries.
