With ample access to parks, attrac-tions, and seaside exploration,

Sidney, BC is showing itself to be a fantastic place for families to visit and to live. There’s no better example of that family-friendly environment than the Sidney Family Day LEGO Week-end, taking place on February 8-10. On the heels of the wildly fun and successful 2013 Sidney Family Day LEGO event, this year a number of community organizations and busi-nesses are teaming up for a full three day weekend of Sidney Family Day LEGO fun! This year’s event has also partnered with the Sidney Fire Depart-ment, in recognition of their 100th Anniversary. LEGO displays, interactive build-ing opportunities, a treasure hunt, and a professional LEGO builder are just some of the reasons to spend time in Sidney for the 2014 Sidney Family Day LEGO Weekend. Due to overwhelm-ing attendance in 2013, this year’s event takes place over three days, and in a variety of venues throughout town. There will be so much more to see, and to build!

While wandering in Sidney, be sure to check out our street statues and murals as well as the Historical Museum. All summer long, Sidney’s main street, Beacon Avenue, closes on Thursday evenings to host the very popular Sidney Street Market, one of the largest in the province; and Sunday afternoons, the water-front Pavilion comes alive with the Summer Sounds Concert Series. With renovations complete at the Sidney Museum, the ninth annual LEGO Exhibit is bigger and better than ever. On display until March 31st, the new “expert” LEGO model of the Sydney Opera House greets visitors as they are transported into memories of their youth, and children imagine what it would be like to own all the models. This year celebrates the 100th anniver-sary of the Sidney Fire Department with a very large collection of LEGO fire trucks, fire halls, and other fire fighting models. In fact, most of the firefighting models produced by LEGO are on display at the Museum, and in addition they have some special models such as a replica of the Shirley Fire Hall, and many other scratch built models. A number of LEGO fire trucks are on loan from Sidney Fire Marshal Jeff Tomlin. The Star Wars collection has grown this year, and the Museum has also added an amazing four foot tall model of the Eiffel Tower. The museum is open daily 10-4, and admission is by donation.
