1 Oconomowoc Arts Center MESSAGE FROM THE ARTS CENTER MANAGER A few notes on the end of 2010… 2010 ended on a high note for the OAC. Our two holiday offerings of A Clooney Christmas and American Folklore Theatre’s Guys and Does were well attended and enjoyed by all. To add to the success of those two events we determined that nearly 40% of those in attendance were new patrons to the arts center. We are very grateful that so many new people have decided to make the OAC a part of their lives. Judging from the re- sponse the events received each performance and considering many of the comments shared in the lobby afterwards, I would say that they had a wonderful experience. Looking forward to the New Year… The New Year starts off with something old and something new. Back by popular demand is our Coffeehouse Cabaret Series featuring the incomparable Pat McCurdy on January 14 and 15, The Harrisons, a father and son duo from the Lake Country area on February 11 and 12, and closing out the series is a great Milwaukee jazz and blues duo, Electri-violet featuring the velvet tones of Carole Fererra and guitarist John Plankenthorn. Another great feature of this series is Chef Brian Shoemake’s savory cuisine of fresh, made from scratch sandwiches, soups, salads and specialty desserts, all in an intimate setting in our Little Theater. Excellent food, fun and great entertainment, all at a great value, but get your tickets early…by the end of the series a season ago we were selling out. Our cabaret space only holds 90 people. A great way to spend a wintery night! Something new this year is our Family Series featuring four wonderful events. The Milwaukee Ballet II Company will open the series with an extraordinary collection of classical variations and new choreography created by the Milwaukee Ballet’s School and Artistic staff on February 4 at 7:00 pm. Sunday, February 13 at 3:00 pm, the nationally renowned Cashore Marionettes will present their performance of Life in Motion. The performance is suitable for ages 12 and older. On Tuesday, March 29 at 7:00 pm, the Florentine Opera will present the children’s opera Billy Goats Gruff. Featured in that performance are 3rd and 4th grade students from Summit Elementary School as the “goat” chorus. The series finishes on a musical note featuring Todd Green – A World of Music on April 5 at 7:00 pm. You can save on all four by getting a series subscription. What a terrific gift for the whole family. Some Changes Moving Forward… The OAC recently conducted an on line patron survey and had a good response from cur- rent patrons and many responses from people who have yet to visit the arts center. The input will be very helpful as we move forward into the 2011/12 season. One major change is in our committee structure at the OAC. Several new committees made up of Oconomowoc area residents and OAC Staff have been formed. We now have a Programming Committee, Marketing Committee, Visual Arts Commit- tee, Film Series Committee and a Special Events Committee. All of these volunteer committees will begin work in earnest this January to help the arts center develop better series program- ming and expand our marketing and promotional resources to get the information out to you. Thanks again for all your support of the OAC. Your attendance and your input will make the arts center a valued treasure for the Oconomowoc area for years to come. Have a great New Year! A few notes on the end of 2010…
2010 ended on a high note for the OAC. Our two holiday offerings of A Clooney Christmas and American Folklore Theatre’s Guys and Does were well attended and enjoyed by all. To add to the success of those two events we determined that nearly 40% of those in attendance were new patrons to the arts center. PAT MCCURDY
Pat McCurdy is a cabaret singer/songwriter from Milwaukee, Wiscon-sin. He regularly tours the upper midwest-ern part of the United States with regular
stops in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Green Bay, and Minneapolis. His shows usually consist of just him and his
guitar and include improvised interac-tion with the audience. While the majority of his audience is made up of a college-age crowd, McCurdy appeals to a large number of people of all ages. Performing well over 300 shows a year, his large catalog of original songs (over 600 and growing) covers a variety of topics such as lost loves, politics, family vacations, and how the world can’t live without relationships and alcohol.
