CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY

Happy New Year and trust everyone had a fantastic Christmas. It was an unusu-ally cool day for December which made it very comfort-able for the 31 children and their parents and grandpar-ents.

Bringing the farm to the city made it very hands on for the children. They were very ex-cited to cuddle and pet the many and various baby ani-mals. Judy was kept busy, twisting balloons into different shapes to the delight of the children. The World of Disney bouncy castle was a hit, with Brian Green making sure the children enjoyed themselves without being hurt.

There are many people to thank :- Margaret Chowdhurie for all your support and assistance. Judy Koek for the delicious afternoon tea. Barbara Chowdhurie for donating the beautiful cup-cakes. Alison Chowdhurie with the face painting. Chad Beins for being MC for the day.

A special thank you to Alan Jupp and his grandchil-dren, Mitchel Princi and Claudia Princi who assisted in making Santa’s entrance unusual and very enter-taining. Philip De Mello and Tim Lee for setting up the drinks corner. Robert and May Harding for once again organizing the Christmas Hamper Raffle won by Graeme Mitchell and Dawn Johnson. Thanks for all the donations from our members.

All my other helpers, Heather Fitzgerald, Sue James, Philomena Noronha, Lorna and Frank Hedges, Joan Reincastle, Marian Mitchell, Daisy Westerhout, Joyce Drysdale and everyone who pitched in to set up and clean after the event. Your assistance made the day run smoothly with every-one enjoying themselves.

Hope you will support the association again in 2011. Thelma Green—Children’s Party Coordinator.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!Happy Valentine’s Day!!Happy Valentine’s Day!!Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Saint Valentine's Day, commonly shortened to Valentine's Day, is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection be-tween intimate companions.

The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 500 AD. It was deleted from the

Roman calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI, but its religious observance is still permitted. It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The day first became associ-ated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

New Year’s Eve Dance New Year’s Eve Dance - A Great Night!!

Our New Years Eve Dance was a very successful and enjoyable night. The band "Eurasia" played a great mixture of songs for every-one. It was good to see the young and the young at heart on the dance floor. "Father Time" aka Brian Green took out the old year, while "Baby" Jermain Beins heralded in the New Year, he was pushed around the dance floor in his pram (wheelbarrow) by his dad Chad Beins. The atmos-phere was electric!

My committee and I would like to thank Loeky and Ernie Lopez for their donation of a bottle of champagne that went towards our hamper for the door prize. A special thank you to Carol and Graham Cockram of Allphones in Belmont for their con-tinued support and donation of mobile phones for our raffles. Thank you to all our members and friends for making it a great night, and hope to see you all again at AEAWA's 22nd Anniversary Dinner and Dance on 19th February 2011. Details above.
