What a month for big surf. Last month there were back to back to back large to extra large size surf for the north and west shores.

Town side was pretty typical for this time of year.

These boards finally came in, and the first delivery we sold out in less than a week. We have 10 more on order and should be here soon. The Scorcher model Firewire is not available till April. As soon as it is available, you know we'll have them.

Super Brand boards are coming in soon. This next batch will be shaped by Matt Kinoshita (Kazuma Surfboards) on Maui.

Sunset Beach Pro 6th -14th Feb 2010

40 of the world’s best stand up paddlesurfers will compete in the Sunset Beach Pro, held at the infamous Sunset Beach on Oahu’s North Shore. With competitors from Hawaii, mainland USA, Tahiti, Europe and Australia this event will kick off the 2010 Stand Up World Tour. Within the holding period, there will be 3 days of competition, start-ing with the Trials Event, where 48 contenders will compete for 4 entries into the Main Event.

The Stand Up World Tour has been established as a series of international world championship stand up paddlesurfing events. The events are sanctioned by the Association of Stand Up Paddle Professionals.

SURF TRAVEL

What’s your plans this year? Any surf trips planned? I already know where I’m going this year...can’t wait. Seems like it’s costing more and more to travel these days. Ticket prices for the most part, have stayed rela-tively the same over the last few years and that’s a good thing. The thing that has gotten out of control are those ridiculously high board fees and other fees that are not included in your ticket. I don’t really get it. Imagine paying your board fee, then having to fork out more cash to pay for your first checked bag??? But, if you like to travel I guess these are the things you have to be willing to live with. Anyway, I put together a short list of some of the places that I’ve been to and rated them on 4 aspects to see which is the best value. Here is what I rated… Waves– Didn’t have to be big or super perfect, as long it was fun and empty. Food– How eatable was it for my tastes. People– How friendly the locals were. Cost– Price overall.

TOP FIVE LIST 1. Taiwan Waves=4 Food=3 People=5 Cost=$$$ 2.Mentawai Indonesia Waves=5 Food=3 People=3 Cost=$$$$$ 3. Miyazaki Japan Waves=3 Food=5 People=5 Cost=$$$$$ 4. El Salvador Waves=3 Food=5 People=3 Cost=$$$$ 5. Tahiti Waves=3 Food=3 People=5 Cost=$$$$ (5=Best ever 1= not stoked at all) Remember this is just my personal list and what the situation was at the time I was there, and if my memory is correct. I’m sure it would be different for everyone. Maybe some of you will find this info helpful before plan-ning your next trip.

Fast Model - based off of Dick

Brewer's Pipeliner. This high perform-

ance longboard is good for chest high

to double over head waves in any con-

ditions. Single to Double concave and

flat out the tail.

Silk Model - A performance nose

rider. He reversed the rocker of a

performance board blank, making it

a low front rocker for acceleration

and a high tail rocker for maneuver-

ing and nose riding.

Shortboard - The Tor-O Model - We asked

if we could have a Retro Style shortboard

but maneuvers like a modern high perform-

ance shortboard and Brewer came up with

the Tor-O Model.

*Thick nose with a low entry rocker to help

in catching waves, accelerate, and plane

down the line.

*The back end is thinned out for lots of bite

on the rail for aggressive style of turning.

Most fish style of boards don't have the

ability to turn quick because of the ticker

bulky rails.

*The Tail rocker is higher than normal to

help with a quick turns off the top of the

wave.

*This board is made for just about anyone

that is looking for a fish but still performs

like a shortboard.
