With special thanks to the TowerXchange “Inner Circle”About TowerXchange
Founded in 2012, TowerXchange is your independent community for operators, towercos, investors and suppliers interested in EMEA, CALA and Asian towers. We’re a community of practitioners formed to promote and accelerate infrastructure sharing. TowerXchange don’t build, operate or invest in towers; we’re a neutral community host and commentator on telecoms infrastructure.
The TowerXchange Journal is free to qualifying recipients. We also provide webinars and regular meetups. TowerXchange monetises this community through hosting annual Meetups and the sale of advertising, without compromising editorial integrity.
TowerXchange was founded by Kieron Osmotherly, a TMT community host and events organiser with 21 years’ experience, and is governed with the support and advice of the TowerXchange “Inner Circle” – an informal network of advisors

New to the TowerXchange community? Then let us explain the unique format and focus of a TowerXchange Meetup!
What is a Meetup?
At other telecom events, tower infrastructure is typically hidden away as an under-appreciated small part of a broader show. The huge audience of device and VAS influencers at other events dilutes access to the few tower experts and decision-makers present. In comparison, TowerXchange has been described as a “networking club for tower geeks” – everyone you meet at TowerXchange is focused on
towers and telecom infrastructure!
A small number of panel discussions are used to set the scene – inviting MNO and towerco VIPs to share priorities in optimising their assets and examining transactions, rollouts and densification plans that are creating demand and deal flow for the supply chain.
The real feature of a Meetup are small roundtable breakouts – connecting you directly and in an intimate format with peers, key decision-makers and leading experts. TowerXchange’s renowned roundtable breakouts are led by an expert moderator, but everyone’s opinions and questions are welcomed. Each roundtable focuses on a specific country, financial, operational or technological issue. With the ability to attend four roundtables at each Meetup, participants can tailor the agenda to their exact needs.
Roundtables are complemented by invitation-only Technology Working Groups, bringing together a board of MNO and towerco technical experts (and select managed service providers) with responsibility for trialling, procuring and using energy equipment and/or site monitoring and management platforms. The working groups are designed to cut through the sales patter of equipment vendors, eliciting in the field experiences of end users and acting as a unified voice to drive technology evolution.
What’s more, as the only event dedicated to the telecom tower industry, each Meetup boasts an exhibition of the most important suppliers and service providers supporting the industry and with participation from vendor companies strictly limited, there are at least as many buyers as sellers on site!
If your role encompasses telecoms infrastructure – this is one event you can’t afford to miss!

Technology working groups
Designed to enable peer-led evaluation of technologies by tower owners themselves, seats at the central table are strictly reserved for executives from MNOs and towercos or invited event sponsors and exhibitors. Our priority for these sessions is to elicit the requirements and experiences of MNOs and towercos – to learn from their challenges and successes. If you are an MNO or towerco in attendance we invite you to take part in these highly constructive debates as we map out product limitations, requirements and trials, and act as a focused industry task force. Similarly, if you are in the process of evaluating different suppliers prior to making a procurement decision, the working groups will equip you with vital information and
key questions to ask when assessing different vendors.
After information gathering from the MNOs and towercos, we invite selected vendors to enter the discussion, succinctly sharing their perspectives and tailored solutions/product developments to address some of the issues raised. All vendors will be notified prior to the event as to their eligibility to join this session.

Regulatory focus group:Characterising and tackling threats to the independent towerco market globally
Tuesday 12 December 2017
In order to facilitate open dialogue, this session is for towerco management teams exclusively and will be held under Chatham House rule.
Globally, TowerXchange track 275 towercos. It’s a small community and a
community often poorly understood by third parties it comes into contact
with; from landowners and local communities to regulators and government
departments.
Often incorrectly grouped with spectrum holding operators and increasingly
subjected to new taxes and local ownership stipulations, such classification
and treatment of the sector presents a threat to the towerco business model.
This December we invite towerco management teams and legal and
regulatory departments to join a focus group designed to look at some of the
emerging threats to the towerco industry and how we can collectively, as
industry, look to address them.
This is the second in a global series of regulatory working group meetings,
aggregating to create a global knowledge and best practice sharing resource
for regulatory, legal and government liaison professionals within towercos.
Key discussion points:
< Regulatory overreach being observed in the towerco sector globally and
the perception on how this could evolve
< Challenges dealing with multiple federal and local jurisdictions and the
taxes and permits imposed
< The level and structure of engagement with regulators in participant
jurisdictions: is this currently working?
< What key issues are keeping regulatory and legal teams up at night?
< Experience of working with local telecom associations: How extensively do
MNO and towerco needs converge? Is – there are a need for multiple local
or regional towerco bodies?
< What outside support / insight would be useful in tackling some of the
challenges raised?
< How are towercos licensed / how should they be licensed?
Host: Eric Crabtree, Chief Investment Officer, IFC

This is the only tower industry specific conference and hence it is important to have a right balance of speakers from across the industry. Overall good effort. I will definitely attend again next year - Manish Kasliwal, VP and CBO, American Tower
The Asia Meetup was incredibly well represented at all levels from our perspective and we’ve certainly generated quite a lot of interest and opportunity from this single event - Ian Welham, SVP Global Sales, ip.access
Excellent forum to interact with peers, colleagues, and vendors in a focused environment - Tony Pretorius, COO, Myanmar Infrastructure Group
Once again great thought leadership and beyond expectations - Ammer Masood, VP SCM Sales, Vodafone Procurement Company
TowerXchange Meetup Asia 2016 turns out to be a very well arranged event. This was my first time to such a forum which provided an opportunity to interact with towercos, suppliers, analysts, and MNOs from various markets! This event offers great networking and learning opportunities, along with a great understanding of challenges faced by the entire ecosystem and the strategies to address those challenges with a Win/Win mindset. The Meetup is an opportunity for open discussions in a favorable environment which prompts out-of-box thinking around the challenges at hand. Great job TowerXchange team; continue with your good work - Nayyar Grami, Director Infrastructure Deployment, Telenor Pakistan

What isThe Future Network is a new community for thought leaders brave enough to imagine - and create - new business models, new solutions and new networks to serve tomorrow’s mobile market. Hosted under Chatham House Rules to encourage openness and disclosure, The Future Network cuts through the hyperbole to identify what innovations can and are being rolled out, what the commercial and regulatory inhibitors are, who is best placed to break through those inhibitors, with a view to devising a common roadmap to realise the Digital Economy.
Brought to you by the team behind TowerXchange, a renowned community host and research resource used by 35,000 telecoms infrastructure decision makers, The Future Network is an online community, publication, and F2F networking platform for executives from mobile network operators, towercos, private network operators, macro and micro antenna developers, OEMs, neutral hosts, service providers, fibre and backhaul companies.
One of the current preoccupations of the market is the deployment of a heterogeneous network (HetNet) layer to infill and offload crowded macro networks. This HetNet is being deployed by a combination of mobile network operators, towercos and other neutral hosts.
The Future Network tracks case studies of trials and deployments around the world and engages with the project managers driving the deployment of small cells, active DAS, smart antennas and other infill and offload technologies. It engages fibre companies, OEMs and supportive sectors to promote investment in and development of this burgeoning market.
Our quarterly publication will showcase the leading future networks around the world, and our regional Meetups will unite the leaders of these projects to share knowledge and expertise to drive the commercial development of the sector by uniting key solution providers under one roof to do business and promote the future of the cellular network
