Web Service as a Data Source



• Ability to specify the web service URL

• The web service must return a JSON packet

• The web service data is not stored in Envision’s data engine

• The data is cached on the client’s web browser



• User can specify the volatility (refresh) period• The time in seconds after which a fresh data packet will be retrieved from the web service

• User can specify the # of data packets to cache (on the client’s browser)• Aggregation can be performed across the cached packets• Each packet must have a timestamp. Charts can be plotted as a time series



• Here we have ranked the temperature of 8 cities using data from the web service

• We also performed aggregation of the web data to calculate the average temperature across the 8 cities

• Uploaded a simple X-Y data packet

• Both the X-axis & Y-axis are numeric

• Data did not exist for x=5, x=13, x=14

Ø Since the X-axis is linear, you see gaps for the missing values


Drill-By Feature


Drill-By Feature

• In the past, users could only Drill-Thru to a pre-authored page

• Drill-By gives the ability to navigate to a page that is created on-the-fly

• All string dimensions from the dataset are available to Drill-By from the menu


Drill-By FeatureThe destination is created (temporarily) on-the-fly

• Drill-By swaps the chart dimension with the Drill-By dimension

• The current chart dimension is added to the browse dimension in the destination page

Order Year has become the X-Dimension

Product Line has been added to the Browse Dimension

• Appropriate filter has been applied on the Product Line


Stat/Target Lines(Custom, Min, Max, Average)
