Discussion

• The frame stress in all 7 cases area (130 MPa) under 1 G load are well below << 355 MPa, Even 2G load are still below the yield stress of 355 MPa

• Weld stress needs to be checked. It is difficult task. So many weld and so many cases. The connection force and moment are extracted from FEA model. The weld stress is calculated according BTH code requirement for Nd=2.4 minium.

Weld size issue concern

• For the vertical position, All SF seems well above 2.4 BTH requirement under 1 G load.

• However, there is fabrication concern for the 30 mm plate connection with 3.2 mm wall thickness of tubing( see next slide for BTH table for more details). Same case for 12 mm plate locations.

a) Minimum fillet weld size for 30 mm plate is 8 mm.b) Maximum fillet weld size allowed for the tubing is 3.2 mm (wall

thickness)c) That creates the problem for fabrication issue. For the required force to

be transmitted, 3.2 mm should work based on the vertical position calculation

d) What’s solution here ?

Next step

• The structural frame is more adequate to satisfy the BTH requirement.

• Will hold on the Weld stress for other case until the 30 mm/12 mm with 3.2 mm issue are addressed.

• Move on the big plate connection.
