(excluding our alumni exhibitions) and the

Rich Rodriguez is in his third season as head coach o the
nation’s all-time winningest ootball program. Rodriguez was
announced as the 18th head coach in U-M ootball history on
Dec. 17, 2007. He is just the 11th head coach in the 107 years
since Fielding H. Yost made his debut in 1901.
Rodriguez arrived at Michigan ater spending seven years
as head coach at West Virginia University where he led the
Mountaineers to a 60-26 record, our Big East titles and six
consecutive bowl game bids. In 2005, he was named to the
American Football Coaches Association Board o Trustees.
Following a 10-2 (5-2 Big East) season in 2007 in which his
team won the Big East title and a BCS berth, Rodriguez was
named the AFCA Region I co-Coach o the Year, sharing the
honor with Boston College’s Je Jagodzinski. It
was Rodriguez’s second such honor ater being
recognized by the AFCA in 2003. He was a inal-
ist or the 2007 Liberty Mutual Coach o the Year
Award, which honors the college ootball coaches
who best exempliy responsibility and excellence
on and o the ield. Rodriguez was also the 2003
and 2005 Big East Coach o the Year.
Under Rodriguez’s guidance, WVU claimed our
Big East championships in ive years (2003, ‘04,
‘05, ‘07) and recorded three consecutive sea-
sons (2005-07) with double-digit victories or
the irst time in school history. The Mountaineers
recorded at least eight wins in each o his last six
seasons, and rom 2002-07, accumulated a record
o 57-16, winning 78.1 percent o their games.
In 2006, the Mountaineers inished 10th in
the national polls at 11-2 behind a pair o All-
Americans and the Big East Player o the Year.
In 2004 and 2005, Rodriguez’s teams claimed
conerence titles, as the 2005 squad went on to
record WVU’s irst BCS victory, a 38-35 upset over
Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.
The Mountaineers rattled o seven straight
wins in 2003 to post a 6-1 mark in conerence
play and tie Miami or the Big East title, while earning
ond straight bowl berth. In 2002, Rodriguez engineere
greatest turn-around in Big East history, taking his 2001
rom a 1-6 record in league play to 6-1 the ollowing year

Prior to accepting the West Virginia job on Nov. 26,
Rodriguez served as oensive coordinator and associate
coach or Tommy Bowden at Clemson in 1999 (6-6) and
(9-3). He spent the previous two years, 1997 and ’98, as
sive coordinator and quarterbacks coach or Bowden at T
where he helped lead the Green Wave to a 19-4 mark. A
