M cKenney’s completed a turnkey build-out of HVAC systems for three linear accelerator vaults at a Georgia medical center. THE CHALLENGE This was an atypical HVAC project—support- ing the installation of a mix of two new and one existing high tech linear accelerators with dedicated air cooled chillers in a medical facility. In addition to installing HVAC piping components for the new accelerators, McKenney’s had to reconnect an existing chiller to an existing accelerator being relocated from another facility without disrupting the medical clinic’s operations. THE SOLUTION McKenney’s conducted multiple coordination meetings with the entire construction team, resulting in all the trades working together to ensure quick installation. To minimize downtime on the existing accelerator, both the chiller and accelerator were relocated—and all re-piping was completed—during a single weekend. THE RESULTS McKenney’s completed the job on time and on budget. The team also avoided any downtime during customary operating hours by relocating the existing accelerator and chiller on a Friday and working diligently have it back up and running the following Monday.
