The Farm Management Plots in the Albert Lea area were started in 1972 by Larry Irvine, now with Ag Star Financial Services and continued by Norm Fredin, now retired Farm Management instructor. Barry Kurtz started in 1997 with help from Norm. Several growers such as Keith Kuiters and Charlie Kermes have had plots from the beginning. Consis- tency has added reliability to the plot results. Seed companies are invited to include two corn varieties and one soybean variety. They also include a fee to cover expenses for a late summer field day, printing, fuel, and testing equipment. These plots are conduct- ed by the Riverland Community College Farm Busi- ness Management instructors and include varieties from many companies. As an independent party, the research is conducted in a way that is not to be par- tial to any one company. Plot books of the results are available in late November at the Albert Lea Riverland Community College office.
