Yaşar Kemal was one of Turkey's leading writers. He got 38 awards during his life and was long a candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature, on the strenght of “İnce Memed”. Some of his books were traslated into 29 languages.

• Orhan Pamuk is a famous writer, too. He received the 2006 Nobel Prize for Literature, becoming the second youngest person to receive the award in its history.

Abidin Dino was a Turkish artist and a well-known painter.

Nuri Bilge Ceylan is a director, too.Competing at the 61st Cannes Film Festival with his 2008 film ÜÇ MAYMUN (Three Monkeys), Nuri Bilge won the Best Director award.
