Wow! This year marks the 8th annual Family Traditions Female sale hosted by Sunset View Farms.

It seems like yesterday we were putting together the first sale catalog back in 2005. Some of you

probably haven’t missed one sale day in Auburn since the beginning, or perhaps you have never

been before. No matter what the case might be, I invite you to be with us on Saturday, April 28th for

this exciting monument in the Sunset View Farms program. Better yet, come on Friday afternoon to

enjoy a leisurely afternoon viewing the sale cattle, and then join Sunset View and guest consignors

for hospitality that evening.

Some might say, “How do you top last year?” The great Sazerac female commanded $52,000 to

Hudson Pines Farm, and some of her daughters sell this year. I know we say every year that this year’s

offering is better than ever before. I guess Ronnie and Bryan keep getting it right because the set

of cattle this year are exceptional. Personally, I find it very exciting to go down to Auburn to begin

picking out the sale cattle. As we drive out through the pastures, there are years of excellent breeding

walking the rolling hills. Yes, I enjoy seeing the SVF donor battery, but what I believe is truly special

are the females who don’t get flushed, but have been held back by the Creeks to consistently produce

bulls and heifers that make the sale every year. Every person and animal are dedicated to the Family

Tradition that is the Sunset View brand.

This year, I’ll keep my comments short and sweet. You can flip through the pages of this book

and the cattle speak for themselves. The predictability of the Sunset View genetics are there from Lot

1 to the very end. It is up to you to study the offering, both on paper and in person, and make the

decision which one will be going home on your trailer. Ronnie and Bryan welcome anyone to the

farm before the sale to view the sale cattle, and of course, the cattle will be on display the week of the

sale. This year make sure you log on to LiveAuctions to view and bid online if you can not be with us

on sale day. If myself, Drew Hatmaker, or any of the consignors can be of service to you or answer

favorite starting at a young age and has followed the same path as she matured. A favorite of Bryan’s and many visitors to SVF, and you can see why. Y229 is a female that seems to put everything together in a neat and well designed package. A female that doesn’t overpower you in any direction; however seems to be complete in all aspects. This Fatt Butt female is sleek fronted with a neat and smooth shoulder then opens up with a deep sweeping rib cage. A female soft in her kind and sound from the ground up. From behind, Y227 is wide hipped with good muscling. The most important factor is that we feel this female can develop into a bred that possibly could be a show stopper, and then after calving take her place as a donor. As you know in the 2008 sale 3M purchased her dam T99 for $19,000, and last year’s Queen Sazerac sold for $52,000 to Hudson Pines. We haven’t had a large number of Fatt Butt progeny however with females like Y227, we continue to use and explore. There is little doubt where ever this girl ends up she will make a name for herself just like her grandmother started the tradition winning the first SimAngus show at the 2005 North American.
