SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE

Scholarship Assistance is available through the Rec-

reation Office.

REFUND POLICY

If you are dissatisfied with a program after the first

session (class), you must submit a written explana-

tion to Bristol Recreation Department prior to the

second session (class) to be eligible to receive a re-

fund. In the event of an extended illness or injury,

we must be notified immediately and we will issue a

prorated refund. A medical and/or doctor explana-

tion will be required. We cannot issue refunds for

trips, special events, ticketed events, and no refunds

are given for a single session. Refunds will be issued

for programs canceled by the Bristol Recreation De-

partment. An administration fee of $5.00 will be

charged for all processed refunds.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

In order to protect the citizens of Bristol, it is the

policy of the Town of Bristol to conduct criminal

background checks of all volunteers and subcontrac-

tors providing unsupervised care or services for vul-

nerable populations (youths ages 18 and under,

adults with disabilities and elderly). The Bristol Rec-

reation Department will only select persons who are

of good character and who have the skills and other

qualifications necessary to fulfill their role.

REGISTRATION GUIDELINES

A. Parent/Guardian signature required for youths 17 and under.

B. REGISTER EARLY!

C. Registration enrollment is limited

D. REGISTRATION DEADLINE … we must

meet our minimum enrollment number, one week prior to the start date of

programs.

E. If you can not make it into the office for registration, call us and we will be

glad to send the form(s) and information.

F. Mail-in registration forms must be received four days prior to programs’

starting dates.

G. Fees payable at time of registration (CASH or CHECK).

H. Registration fee arrangements can be made, contact the Recreation

Director.

I. Non-residents accepted if space is available, with the additional out of

town fee applied.

J. No telephone registrations accepted

K. We afford equal opportunity to all people to participate in our programs.

L. If you are a person with a disability and require accommodations, please

contact the Recreation Director prior to the program’s starting date.

M. Residents are those whose primary home is located in the Five Town area

(Bristol, Lincoln, Starksboro, Monkton & New Haven)

N. Please be aware that program information and fees are subject to

change.

Here is your chance to take part in a fun Bristol Hal-

loween tradition. You and your team, group or family

can sign up to paint a Halloween scene on a Main

Street window.

All materials will be supplied.

Bring your idea for your Halloween scene and be

willing to clean up your window after Halloween.

Join us in Holley Hall for a Halloween Carnival!

Then... Bring your carved pumpkin, with a

l.e.d .candle to the Green at 7 p.m. and watch as the

park will comes “alive” with the lighting of the

pumpkins. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative, the scariest and the prettiest pumpkin.

Friday Dec. 20. at 6pm

Join us in front of Holley Hall where we

will go out to sing to our community.

Kids Programs

We are proud to announce Bristol Recreation Departments

School of Dance

We will begin with Tap Dance classes and will be

adding Ballet and Hip Hop soon…

Classes will consist of 8 months of instruction and

culminate with a recital in May.

Please wear dance attire.

Homemade Applesauce

Just in time for the height of apple season we will learn how to make applesauce from scratch. We will also do apple taste test-ing and learn the difference between taste and flavor. Everyone will get to customize their own applesauce flavor and bring lefto-

vers home. Participants will also receive recipe handouts.

Cookies!!!

We will make our own basic cookies with a healthy spin and then spend time decorating them. We'll discuss basic baking tech-niques and learn about measuring. Each child will make and dec-orate their own cookies, bring the leftovers home with them

Muffin Mania

School Age Beginner

Participants will learn basic tumbling skills including forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, and handstands, as well as basic skills on a variety of equipment including balance beam, uneven bars, vault, mini-trampoline, and rope. Gymnastics is great for enhanc-ing skills that can be applied to others sports such as strength,

speed, flexibility, balance, agility, and body awareness.

Intermediate/Advance

Participants will build on the basic skills to learn round offs, walk-overs, and handsprings, and further develop skills on the balance beam, uneven bars, mini-trampoline, vault, and rope. awareness.

American Red Cross Babysitting Course This American Red Cross certified course will provide the information necessary to be a competent babysitter. Students should bring a life size baby doll, notebook, pen or pencil and a water bottle. This class will meet for 2

Scarecrow

building

Contest

Get a group or family together and build a fabulous creation for our scarecrow contest!

From Sept.1st to Oct. 16th, build your scare-crow. (One entry per family please) Take a pic-ture of the scarecrow, include the names of all builders and contact information. (submission of a photo will also serve as permission to use the photo by the Bristol Recreation Department.) and send it to us at [email protected]. (All entries must be family friendly.) Prizes will be awarded. From Oct.17-24 visit our Facebook page and vote for your favorite scarecrow.

Bow & Rifle Hunter Safety

Topics covered include: Basic introduction to Hunter Education, Bow & Firearms hunting safety, Hunter responsibility & personal preparedness, wildlife conservation & hunting opportunities in the area. Class graduates will leave the hunter education courses with a thor-ough understanding of how to get a lifetime of enjoyment from Vermont's magnificent natural resources. Tai Chi

Tai Chi for Arthritis Beginners class is a program developed by Dr. Paul Lam and promoted by the Arthritis Foundation, contains all the essential principles of Tai Chi that support the improvement of flexibility. Improved flexibility reduces stiffness and helps keep joints mobile. Stiffness causes pain; increased flexibility relieves pain. This class is offered in conjunction with CVAA.

Note: There is a beginner level and a graduate class.

Level 3 - Int. Volleyball

This is an ADULTS ONLY class. Intermediate - minimum 3 - 4 years experience in recreational volleyball. Not suggested for league players. Classic three-touch volleyball; this is a fun, fast paced game with receiving and passing, setting and smashing and is great exercise. No volleyball during school vacations or holidays. Times are subject to change. $22.00 per season or $2.00 weekly

drop in.

Men's Monday Night Basketball

Basketball is a great form of exercise as well as fun. This class is

for adult men only. This is an Adults Only class. You may drop in

or attend the entire session. Basketball is a great, fun way to get

in some exercise while having fun with friends and neighbors.

There is no basketball during school vacations or holidays. Times

are subject to change.

Swing Dance 8 Count Lindy Hop

Swing dancing began with 8 count rhythms, yet most swing dance variations are taught with simplified 6 count rhythms. This class will not only teach a variety of 8 count move but teach you how to stay in the 8 count Lindy style comfortably. No prior experience or partner necessary. All classes are followed by an optional 1 hour Practice Session!

Basic Life Skills for Dogs

For dogs 6 months and older at the time of the class. You will learn the basics of positive reinforcement-based obedience with a strong emphasis on management and leadership skills. Dogs will learn: sit, down, come, leave it, loose leash walking, stay and how to handle jumping, mouthing, aggression, anxiety as

well as adolescent issues. *No dogs first class, please.*

What Do I Do With That

Expand your vegetable knowledge by learning delicious recipes for less common fall vegetables like Brussels sprouts, squash, turnips, kale and more. We will discuss what they are, how to purchase and store them and finally cook some great dishes with them. We will also discuss ways to use any new vegetable you come across! Thanksgiving Sides

Learn how to make the perfect Thanksgiving side dishes in this class. No "healthy dessert" is not an oxymoron - come learn how to make dishes that will feel like dessert in your mouth, buy not your waistline! Homemade Pasta

Did you know homemade pasta is fun, easy and inexpensive to make yourself? In this class we will make basic egg noodles and explore the possibilities from there, including different flavors and shapes. We will also make ravioli and tortellini with a vari-ety of fillings. To top it off we’ll whip up a few simple sauces and pair with our creations. We will eat what we prepare and all participants will leave class with recipes and handouts from

the course.

Ho. Ho. Ho. This is Santa calling...

Bristol Recreation Dept. has reached an agreement with Santa Claus’ North Pole Headquarters to arrange a phone call from Santa Claus for local children.

A special North Pole registration form is available on the Bristol Rec. Dept. website. bristolrec.org Please register by Dec.10th. Fee: $5 per family.

Santa makes his calls on Wednesday Dec. 18 and Thursday Dec. 19 in the evening between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Every effort is made to call younger children first.

$5 for everyone. First Seating is at 8:30am, second seating is at 9:30am and third seating at 10:30a.m.
