came across a man namedChristian. He was sitting on thesteps of Love Gospel Assembly by
himself. On the way in on the busthat day, I was sharing with somevolunteers who had never been onthe bus before, how God manytimes uses the people on the streetto minister to us. Well, this was oneof those encounters.
As I
talkedwithChristian, itwas abundantlyclear, that though he is homeless, and jobless currently, had knew thathe really has all he needs, becausehe has Jesus. It’s not just a religion,or a “pie in the sky when I die” kindof Christianity that Christian is living,it’s his entire reality. When I asked
him about whether he had a place tostay, he said with a beaming smile,“I have a place tonight, I don’t knowabout tomorrow, but I have a placetonight.” When I asked aboutwhether he had a job, he said, I” Idon’t have a job right now, but Ihave everything I need right now”, Iknew it was his present reality, thatJesus is really all he needs, and he
has learned to be happy with, andwithout, because he has JesusChrist in his life.
I was immediately convicted ofhow much I have in comparison, and how much he really has somuch more than I. It’s a paradoxicalGod reality, that sometimes, themore we have, the more we think weneed. Christian is a man who
doesn’t just sing the songs like,“You’re all I need”, but he lives it.My encounter with Christian wasa genuine encounter withJesus... another example thatreminds me that we don’t go tothe streets with all the answers, but to “journey with others onthe pathway towards God.”
Come and volunteer andexperience God for yourself in a
powerful way!
The Picture on the Front...
This picture essentially says it aHo, ho, ho, merry “xmas.”“(abbreviation intended). All of uswill walk right by this person at ontime or another, in some form oranother. Myriads of people will rus
past this person in many differentways, getting gifts for other peopleas the beggar waits.
That’s why we are a part of the“Don’t Walk By” outreach every yein January. Every Saturday inJanuary, hundreds of volunteers wbe trained and sent to the streets oNYC to bring people back to a homchurch for a meal, and anopportunity to get off the streets ainto a new environment like a
shelter, drug program, etc. It’sanother expression of doing whatJesus said to do. If you areinterested, please visitwww.dontwalkby.org for moreinformation.
