C o a c h : D a n C a m p b e l l ( f i r s t year, returning after sabbatical)Last year: Boys, third in KVAC, fifth in Class A; Girls, seventh in KVAC, 14th in Class A.Returning athletes: Boys: Senior — Justin LeClair; Juniors — Lucas Bourget, Zach Tannenbaum, Nate Mulligan; Sophomore — Izaac White. Girls: Seniors — Audrey Bennett, Hayley Barton; Junior — Crystal LabonteKey losses : Boys: Faisa l Noor, Hussein Mohamed; Girls: Abby Hart, Melissa Brown.Top newcomers : Boys : Senior — Matt Ya r nev ich; Juniors — Adam Robinson, Midhun Gelder; Sophomore — Tony Gardner. Girls: Senior — Abby Dunn; Junior — Katie Laf lamme; Sophomore — Haley Laflamme.Outlook: Numbers have improved significantly for EL, with 16 boys

and nine girls out for the team. Those are the most runners veteran coach Campbell can recall in about eight years. LeClair and Bourget have big sneakers to fill after the graduation of Noor and Mohamed. Likewise, Bennett hopes to step up after emerging as the girls’ No. 2 runner last year.C o a c h’s c om me nt : “For t h e boy s, e spe c ia l l y, per for m i ng well in the KVAC and state meets should be ver y doable for us.” – Coach Dan Campbell

Coach: Craig Latuscha (second year)Last year’s record: 5-8-1Returning players : Seniors — MaryKate Masters (MF), Jaclyn Masters (SK ), Em i ly Ha r t nett (SK), Kelly Philbrook (FB), Melissa Paione (FB), Phoebe Chamberlin (FB); Juniors — Kate Sawyer (SK), Allaire Lever (MF), Abby Bellefleur (MF), Lexi Clavet (SK); Sophomores — Kor y Norcross (SK ), Taylor Landry (G).Key losses: Emily Grund (MF), Frankie Lally (SW)Promising newcomers: Senior — Liz Stauffer (FB); Juniors — Avery

Chisholm (FB), Ayumi Ranucci (SK); Freshmen — Hannah Smith (SW), Molly Murray (G), Makayla Norcross (MF).Outlook: Grund was an all-star player, while Lally was an al l-conference defender. Their talent’s will be tough to replace. EL still has

some skill and experience up front. That should give the Red Eddies some scoring punch. Philbrook and Chamberlin will lead the defense. EL hopes to improve on last year and challenge for a tourney spot in Eastern Class A.Coach’s comment: ”We look to

continue building as they are in their second year of a rebuilding process. With one of the toughest schedule in the league, things will be very interesting. With hard work, dedication and discipline, we hope to make a push for the playoffs this season.” – Coach Craig Latuscha

Coach: Chris Williamson (f irst year)Last year’s record: 5-5Returning players: Travis Landry, Nate C orl i s s , Nate P u sh a rd, Brandon Dubuc.Key losses: Cody Russell, Brian Bickford.Promising newcomers : Cooper Easter, Ryan Rossignol, Mickey Law rence, Brian Crane, Corey Henderson, Kyle Karkos. Outlook: With 15 golfers out for the

team and a good group of talent at the top, Edward Little should improve on its .500 record from a year ago. The returners are all strong and the newcomers are showing good promise for first-year coach Williamson. No one has

emerged yet as the clear No. 1, but the Eddies will be deep and able to compete in every match.Coach’s com ment : ”T here i s competition for the top six spots ever y week, so it should make practice even more important.”– Coach Chris Williamson

Coach: Dave Sterling (second year)Last year’s record: 5-4, lost in Eastern A quarterfinalsReturning players: Seniors — Luke Farrago (FB/LB), Dylan Deconzo (LB/TB), Alphonso Belnavis (CB/WR), Darnell Hairston (DE/LB/TB), Josh Delong (QB).Key losses: Teven Colon (TB), Cory Spruill (NT/FB), Avery Jackson (T/DT), Ben Bellevue (G/DE), Cody Meserve (C/DT), Zach Earle (T/DT), Zach Leblond (TE/SS).Promising newcomers: Seniors — Tony Wysocki (G/NG), Anfernee

EL will miss the explosive Colon, who starred at both quarterback and tailback in his career, but Hairston h a s s i m i l a r g a m e - b r e a k i n g

potential. Crenshaw (6-foot-3, 315 pounds), Ales Sterling (245) and Lachapelle (245) give the Eddies some size in the trenches they’ve lacked in the past. With only four teams making the PTC ’A’ playoffs this year, September g a me s a g a i n s t L a w r e nc e, Bangor and Brunswick will have a huge say in whether or not the Eddies return to the postseason.Coach’s comment: “With this core of guys, our expectations are pretty high, but it’s one at a time.” – Coach Dave Sterling

Coach: Dave Morin (32nd year)Last year’s record: 5-8-1Returning players: Seniors — Nate Blais (MF), Ben Bowles (G), Jeremy Hamm (G), Jared Pelletier (S), Ian Therriault (MF), Adam Timberlake (MF); Junior — Zack Tannenbaum (MF).Key losses: Jon Delorme (FB), Cam Ivers (FB), James Jackson (FB), Tim Mains (F), Taka Ranucci (SK), Ken Romero (FB), Justin Forbes (MF).Promising newcomers: Seniors — Nigel Bowles (MF), Richard Grondin (FB), Ethan Polisky (FB), Taylor Ra m ich (FB), Bra ndon

(MF), Brady Pleau (S).Outlook: The Red Eddies lost their entire starting defense and their top scorer. There’s only a small group of returning starters. Morin will try to shore up his defense and

have his team working hard to stay competitive as EL aims for a return to the tournament.Coach’s com ment : “We’l l be the underdog most of the time. Hopef u l ly t his tea m w i l l r ise

to the challenge through hard work, learning to handle difficult situations and striving to improve e v e r y g a m e a n d p r a c t i c e .” – Coach Dave Morin

Coach: Greg Perkins (22nd year)Last year’s record: 9-4-2 (3rd in Eastern A)Returning players : Seniors — Tor i Cout u re (MF), Cou r t ney Pel let ier (F), Daniel le Demers (B), Madison Williamson (MF), Kayla Nadeau (B), Jordan Tate (F), Gabby Laperriere (MF); Juniors — Amanda Wil l iams (G), Sam Goulette (B), Hannah Johnston (F), Kaelena Perron (F).Key losses : Emily Ranucci, Bri

Robbins, Miranda Martin, Eileen McKinney, Ashley Butler, Marie Dufresne-Dixon, Maranda Parent.Promising newcomers : Senior — Renee Cote; Juniors — Taylor Berube (F), Sophie Harris (MF), Kaylee Caron (MF); Sophomore — Brit Williams.Outlook: It never seems to matter how much the Eddies lose, they always find a way to stay in the upper-middle part of the K VAC. This group lost some talent, but is st i l l relatively seasoned and should again be looking at a home

game in the f irst round of the playoffs as a goal.

Coach’s comment: ”We plan on being competitive. The players are working hard in practice and

are enthusiastic about the coming season.” – Coach Greg Perkins

from last fall’s K VAC title team, including Hersi and Saban, both all-state players. There’s still some depth and skill here, but it will take

time for this group to gain varsity experience and develop as a team.Coach’s comment: “We return a good and competitive team, but

lack varsity match experience. We’ll do well if we play consistently and have that blend of chemistry and hard work.” – Coach Mike McGraw

Shelby Dobranksy (MF).Outlook: The Blue Devils have most of their team back. Hamel, D en i s a nd Su l l i v a n a r e t he playmakers in the midfield while Masselli was first in the state in saves last year. Dow is excited about the progress this group has shown and thinks this squad has playoff potential.Coach’s comment: “It is the best I’ve seen this team play in four years. With the talent we’ve got and the chemistry we have, we

could conceivably make it to the quarterfinals.” – Coach Butch Dow

Coach: Bob Blanchette (fifth year)Last year’s record: 7-3Returning players : Seniors — Brandon Tiner, Nick Gilbert, Alex Gregoire; Juniors — Cam Marquis, Tyler Houle, Evan Bourassa.Key losses : Scott Gagne, Evan Carrier, Jesse Leeman.Promising newcomers: Senior — Matt Myrick.Outlook: The Blue Devils lost some bona fide talent at the top of the lineup, but the team is deep enough to withstand that loss. The team

this year is also decently deep, and should be a factor in the KVAC all season.Coach’s comment: ”Our goal is to shoot between 160 and 170 for our top four at every match. If we can do that, we should win 70 or 80 percent of our matches.”– Coach Bob Blanchette

Coach: T.J. Niles (first year)Last year: Boys, fourth in KVAC, seventh in state; Girls, ninth in KVAC.Returning athletes: Boys: Seniors

— Kevin Lavertu, Matt Chouinard; Junior — Mohamed Barre. Girls: Senior — Nicole Court-Menendez; Junior — Emily Craft; Sophomore — Faith Shaw.Key losses: Boys: Hussein Ibrahim, Tanner Adams, Kyle Clabby, Russ Caliguiri; Girls: Ali Butler.Promising newcomers : Boys : Sophomore — Mohamed Mohamed. Girls: Sophomore — Mana Abdi; Freshman — Taylor True.

Outlook: With Lavertu and Barre returning from last year with the addition of Mohamed, the Blue Devil boys have a strong top three and expect to improve upon last year. The girls have only seven runners, so stay ing hea lthy is crucial. But the addition of Abdi and True enhances their hopes of qualifying for states.Coach’s comment: “We will be heavily relying on the back half

of the varsity team to step up and test their limits in races a n d w o r k o u t s .” – Coach T.J. Niles

Coach: Bre Allard (first year)Last year’s record: 3-11Retur ning players : Sen ior — Ma r i s s a Z a non i ( F ) ; Ju n ior s — Jenny Chouinard (F), Kelsey Dumond (MF), Allison Osgood (D), Ravon Palmer (G), Sadie Poulin (MF), Natalie Rousseau (F).Key losses: Kierstyn Barnies, Katie Foss, Allison Lafreniere, Laylynn Levasseur, Sara Marden, Kirsten McCombs, Saba Naji, Arika Olsen, Katie Tirabassi.

Promising newcomers: Senior — Linsey House (D); Junior — Sam Clark (D); Sophomores — Abby Loisel (F), Laurianne Murphy (F), Olivia Norton (MF), Desirae Roy (F); Kaylyn Sampson (MF), Jenessa Talarico (F), Brie Wilson (MF); Freshmen — Margaruette Seguin (D), Kyla Sturtevant (F).Outlook: With Morse moving to Class B this season, Lewiston is back at the bottom of the pack based on last year’s finish, but the Devils do not appear discouraged about it. They know they have

some tough games ahead of them, but they’re ready to fight and hope to prove to the conference that they’re a new team. A very young group bodes well for the future.W it h a new head coach at the helm, L e w i s t o n’s f i e l d h o c k e y p r o g r a m is going to see a lot of changes this s e a s o n . C o a c h Allard plans to push

T hei r chances of taking that elusive final step get a huge boost from eight returning starters on both

sides of the ball. Lewiston’s Wing-T back f ield is loaded with the steady Madden, the grinding McKinnon, the shifty Therrien and t he explosive Turcotte. Pandora might be the league’s best two-way tackle. The secondar y of Therrien, McKinnon and Caleb Johnson r e t u r n s i nt a c t . I f t he r e’s a cou nter poi nt to a l l t hat optimism, it’s that Lewiston’s toug hest ga mes — Ba ngor, Lawrence, Brunswick and EL — are on the road.

Promising newcomers: N/AOutlook: Thin on numbers, the Rebels will field the same team they did last year. A few of the golfers have their sights set on individual states, while the team is hopeful to make it in as a unit, as well. formidable addition to Eastern B. They return just four starters on offense, all at the skill positions. But the offensive line was a key unit on the JV team, which lost just one game last year. Whitney, in his second year, has plenty of weapons at his disposal. Sennick is one of the top big-play threats in the conference. Tracy and Berry both spent time as the No. 1 running back last year. The defense is more seasoned and has plenty of play-makers in the secondary.

Coach’s comment : “We have a l it t le bit more ex per ience on defense. A lmost ever yone

winning season and playoff berth. Now Mt. Blue hopes to build on that. The squad lost veteran talent, including Mochamer, an all-state forward. The Cougars are still a

good young squad on the rise with some playoff seasoning already under their belts.

Coach: Dan Crooker (second year)Returning players: Boys: Seniors — Ada m Ma ha r, Ben L e w i s, Casey Kellner, Matthew Keane; Sophomore — Josef Holt-AndrewsKey losses: Girls: Morgan Lee.Promising newcomers : Boys : Sophomore — Bronson Dea n; Freshman — Greg Wheeler; Girls:

Freshman — Gabi Stone.Overview: The Rebels f inished third in the MVC last year and should contend again with all of their runners returning. Holt-Andrews finished third in Class C as a freshman and should solidify his place among the top runners in the state. Lewis, whose junior ca mpa ig n was h indered by a broken foot, and Mahar are coming off strong track seasons and should

score well. Dean excelled in the mile in track as a freshman and adds more depth.Coach’s comment: “I look for the team to step up to the challenge of bei ng a top M VC te a m .” – Coach Dan Crooker

Coach: Kelley Cullenberg (19th year)Last year: Boys, second in KVAC, sixth in Class A; Girls, third in KVAC, 10th in Class AReturning athletes: Boys: Seniors — Alex Chandler, Jackie Chen, Jona h Jones; Juniors — Corey Iba, Sully Jackson, Justin Tracy;

Sophomore — Dust in Staples. Girls: Seniors — Addie Cullenberg, Louisa Stancioff, Molly Fissette, Emily Ga rdner, Ju l ia Luchini, Courtney Qi; Juniors — Maryam Norton; Sophomores — Sa ra h Wade, Anya Nordstrom.Key losses: Boys: Jaron Jones, Brody Hines, Kjel l Nordstrom; Girls : Gwen Beacham, Emily Reed, Eliza Richard.Promising newcomers : Boys : Sophomores — Josh Horne, Noah LePage, Tim Meser v ier, A l len Taylor; Freshmen — Rickie Chen, Brendan Hickey, Dan Lesko. Girls:

Seniors — A lexa iya Back ma n, Louise Legein, Emily Roberts ; Ju n ior — D e a n n a R ic h a rd s ; Sophomores — Macee Qi, Casey Rogers ; Fresh men — Chenoa Jackson, Katherine Gunther.Outlook: The boys looked to be a contender for the KVAC title, but a possible season-ending injury to Jones has knocked dow n those expectat ions a notch. Tracy and Jackson were top-20 finishers at last year’s conference meet and could help fill that void. Beacham’s graduation left a void for the

girls, but second and third runners Cullenberg and Stancioff return.Coach’s comment: “If we have Jonah Jones healthy, we couild conceivably v ie for t he K VAC

O n l y t w o p l a y e r s a r e gone from a tough

year, and there is a multitude of experience and talent this season on this squad. The base of the program has grown well, and there is a good chance .500 might be

in sight as the Cougars have now dropped into Class B.Coach’s comment: ”Now we need to make sure we are united as

Oxford Hills still has a returning group that has seen a lot of playing time and knows the rigors of the KVAC varsity schedule. With that added

seasoning, the Vikings could take a step forward this year and improve upon last year’s mark.Coach’s comments: “We have a

lot of returning players that saw significant playing time last year. We are working hard and have expectations on gett ing better

every time we step on the field.” – Coach Chris Morin

Withee took over a f loundering Foxcroft program a nd g u ided it to t h ree state championships and eight Eastern Maine t it les. Ox ford Hil ls has averaged one win per season over the last four. Already there are signs of a turnaround, with several junior a nd senior at h letes returning to footba l l a f ter a n ex tended

Grant, Kailyn Hill, Dakota Bisson.Outlook: The Greyhounds return 13 players from last year’s club, including Lawrence, an all-state and all-MVC player, and Angelico, an all-MVC pick. With the move to

Class C, Lisbon hopes to build off last year and be a team to watch in the MVC and Western Class C.Coach’s comment: “I think we will be competitive in the MVC and hope to utilize the playoff

Coach: Dick Mynahan (24th year)Last year’s record: 9-2, lost in Western C championshipReturning players: Seniors — Zack Splude (TB/LB), Cameron Graf (WR/TE/CB), Chase Hunter (G/NG); Juniors — Ryan Riordan (QB/DB), Kyle Sheehan (FB/MLB).Key losses: Tobey Harrington (RB/DB), Josh Pomerleau (RB/DB), Mike McNamara (LB), Luke Caron (QB), John Crafts (C/DE), Matt Nicholson (G/LB), Nick Dingley (G/DE).Promising newcomers: Seniors — Dalton Dunphy (OL/DL), Cody Donov a n ( OL/DL); Ju n ior s — Mason Haley (RB), Casey Garrison

(T/DT); Sophomores — Jordan To r r e s ( R E B / D B ) , Q u i n c y Thompson (RB), Jacob Bremmer (OL/DL), Nate Gamache (OL/DL).Overview: Two tough losses to Yarmouth abbreviated what was otherwise a typical, gritty Lisbon

season in 2010. The Greyhounds were successful in the face of injuries, ineligibility, a lack of si ze a nd a ny ot her obstacles t hat wa ndered i nto t he way. R iorda n st a r te d t wo playof f games at quarterback as a result

of that shorthanded situation. That experience is likely to pay dividends this fall. Lisbon isn’t any bigger in the backfield, but it has more quickness and depth than Mynahan can recall in many years. Lisbon should be in the mix

with Yarmouth and Traip in the Campbell Conference southern division once again.Coach’s comment: “It looks like the type of team that could get better every week, which is what you like to see.” – Coach Dick Mynahan

Coach: Hank Fuller (24th year)Returning players: Boys: Seniors — Hayden Stewart, Joe Daigle, Kody Priddle, Kyle Priddle, Garrett Starr; Junior — Ben Kates; Girls: Meagan Thomas, Samantha Foote, Angela Bulgin; Junior — Kristen Carter; Sophomores — Abigail Roy.Key losses: Boys: Forrest Cornell; Girls: Jackie KnowlesPromising newcomers : Boys : Senior — Derick Lycette, Andrew Smith; Sophomore — Neil Smith;

Freshmen — Zack Drottar, Jeff Willey.Outlook: Led by Kates and Stewart, the Greyhound boys hope to move up in a tough Mountain Valley Conference f ield. Developing a strong second pack would help. Numbers are down for the girls, but with the return of Bulgin after a one-yea r soccer sabbat ica l, they have a solid top four and an excellent No. 1 in Thomas, who finished seventh in Class C as a junior.Coach’s comment: “The boys are

going to have a strong pack and how well that pack moves up as a group is going to determine how well we

do. The girls will be competitive in the league and are hoping to qualfy for states.” – Coach Hank Fuller

So the Patriots remain in the higher division with the likes of Mountain Valley, Cape Elizabeth, Wells and newcomers Marshwood, Westbrook and Spruce Mountain. The good news: Most of the team returns intact after a rough 2010, and a tiered schedule will keep G-NG matched primarily against the other young programs in the Campbell Conference.

Promising newcomers: Freshmen — Andrew Wilcox (MF), Avery Noll (F), Tyler Ritter (MF), Tristen Begin (F), Noah Parker (F), Alex Kennedy (F), Jacob Luce (FB), Shane Missler (MF), Alex Greenleaf (F).Overview: The Pnoenix combine the programs from Livermore Falls and Jay. Both squads missed the playoffs last fall, so the Phoenix are anxious to earn a playoff berth. Acritelli has enough depth to have a JV program and a solid group of seniors to lead the way. It has

taken some time to get the players accustomed to playing together, but the Phoenix are excited to show what they can do this season.Coach’s comment: “I am thrilled to be able to coach this team. We have a great bunch of kids that have been

working hard through the summer, as well as preseason. If these kids can play to their potential, it should be a great season. It is a long season with a lot of work to do. Playing in the MVC and then going into the B playoffs is going to be tough, but the

kids are working hard and looking forward to any challenges set in front of them.” – Bill Acritelli

Coach: Jon Blaisdell (first season)Last year’s record: 6-6-2, lost in Western C quarterfinalReturning players: Seniors — Lexi Deering (F), Samantha Hutchinson (FB); Juniors — Emily Acritelli (FB), Lindsey Allen (FB), Alison C h icoi ne-Bates ( F B ), A nd rea Chicoine-Bates (MF), Casidee Couture (F), Natashia Couture ( F B ), Ta bit ha T ibbet t s ( F B ); Sophomores — Hayley Doyon ( MF ), Br it ta ny Ca r r ier ( MF ), Brianna Martin (MF).Promising newcomers: Freshmen

— Vanese Barnes (F), Megan Duval (F), Amia Pelletier (MF), Emily Keene (G/MF), Tara Williams (G/MF).Outlook: Jay and Livermore Falls combine again in girls’ soccer. The two schools formed a cooperative program a few years ago and fielded a playoff team. Jay went at it alone last year with Blaisdell as coach. Deering scored 22 goals for that team and was an all-MVC player. The Phoenix had 28 girls out for the team, giving the squad plenty of depth. Coach’s comment : “T he g i rls have a great att itude and our

team chemistry is awesome. Our program is still in its infancy, but is steadily growing. Our incoming players’ skills continue to improve, thanks to our coaching staff in

junior high. We expect to steadily improve throughout the season as the girls get used to playing together.” – Coach Jon Blaisdell

Key losses: Livermore Falls — Alex Rose (HB/DB), Mike Armstrong (TE/DE), Sam Chabot (G/LB), Jay — Jordan D. Most of the inaugural edit ion of the Phoeni x played together through youth football all the way up to the eighth grade. Nevertheless, there w il l be an adjustment period, especially for the Livermore Falls contingent

getting used to the plays, schemes, f o r m a t i o n s a n d t e c h n i q u e s Bonnevie has brought with him from Jay. Unlike recent years when t hey were sepa rated into t wo much smaller squads, the Phoenix will be able to withstand injuries

The result should be

one of the top MVC schools once again. The difference will come at playoff time, when the Phoenix will dive into the Class B tourney. The team is missing a ton of talent from each of last year’s teams, but also combining will help minimize some of those effects.Coach’s comment: ”We’ve had a great summer with the team together. The preseason has been great, and we’re looking forward to the challenge of bringing the two schools together as one. We’re very excited about this year.”– Coach Julia Parker

Coach: Luc Roy (fourth year)Last year: Boys, 11th in KVAC; Girls, did not score in KVAC.Returning athletes: Boys: Seniors — Jesse Newcomb, Jeremy Read, Daniel Costanzi; Juniors — Matthew Breer, Kolby Robichaud; Sophomores — Kane Williamson, Ben Dill. Girls: Seniors — Adena St. John; Juniors — Moriah Lee, India Lucas; Sophomore — Alexandra James.Key losses: None.

Promising newcomers : Boys : Senior — Forest Todd; Sophomore — Marc Hunt; Freshman — Sudeep St auble. Gi r l s : Fre s h men — Miranda Murphy, Julia Dillon. Outlook: Losing no runners to

graduation will help the Vikings as they look to build a team with enough runners to score in the conference and regional meets. Newcomb and Read are the top runners for the boys. Lee and Lucas

will set the tone for the girls.Coach’s comment: “Our boys’ tea m w it h f ive st rong sen ior runners gives us a chance to get a good pack in below the 20-minute mark.” – Coach Luc Roy

Coach: Rick Carleton (4th year)Last year’s record: 9-4 (Liv. falls); Jay had no team.Returning player: Senior — Chris Bubier.Key losses: Jimmy Seitz, Brain Maurais, Mike Anctil.Promising newcomers: Senior — Jacob Boivin.Outlook: This is a lean year for the Spruce Mountain golf program. A small turnout depsite the new, merged school and those who are out are short on golfing experience. After a successful season last fall as Livermore Falls, expect a step

back from this bunch this year as it hopes to build going forward.Coach’s comment: ”We are just looking to get better every day and improve our skills.”– Coach Rick Carleton

Still a young team, the Patriots have worked to better themselves this summer. seniors are all veterans of KVAC compet it ion, a nd t he tea m’s returning sophomores also played last season. There is nothing here to say that the Vikings won’t be at least as strong as last season, and will be in the hunt for the KVAC crown again this season. The biggest lesson still to learn here is how to win away from the friendly confines

of the team’s home course.Coach’s comment: ”We have no superstars here, but we have a good group of very steady, competitive golfers. We have five or six guys that can all play at the top on any given day. I’d expect we’ll be pretty strong.” – Coach Mike Grace

Coach: Keith Weatherbie (second year)Returning players: Boys: Senior —Patrick LaChance, Sophomores — Tom Therriault, Mac Labee; Girls: Juniors — Hanna Tyce, Darby Frost; Sophomore — Callie Greco.Key losses: Boys: Joe Bosse; Girls: A lyse Carney, Caroly n Joseph, Caroline Sheats.Promising newcomers : Boys : Freshman — Michael Blaich; Girls: Senior — Sarah Small; Sophomores — Mega n R i ng, E l len Tut t le ; Freshman — Emily Carney.

Overview: The Saints lost three of the top seven girls from last year’s MVC champion. Tyce and Greco are the lone top 20 holdovers and should be bolstered by the addition of Small, a top middle distance runner in track. If they stay hea lthy and more of the newcomers can contribute, they should compete for another MVC crown.Coach’s comment:

Trott (F); Freshman — Emily Caron (MF), Kirsten Conner (MF).Outlook: The Saints went further than any St. Dom’s girls’ team last fall and hope to go even further this season. St. Dom’s lost some veteran talent, but still has an experienced g roup, especia l ly on defense. The Saints should remain one of the strongest team in the MVC and should be in good position in Western C.

Coach’s comment: “The 2011 season has the potential of being a promising yea r. T h i s yea r ’s s q u a d c o m e s i n v e r s a t i le a nd ha s t he d r ive to exceed last year’s successful season.” – Coach Kathy Little

Robbie Pallozzi (F), Calvin Stewart (MF), TJ Rotolico (MF). Freshmen — Matt Chasse (FB), Ben Sawyer (G).Outlook: The Saints graduated a wealth of talent and have a new coach. Bressler coached the seniors when they were freshmen. That has helped the transition, but this team still has a lot of returning talent that is stepping into larger roles. St. Dom’s will improve as this group

a c c l i m a t e s i t s e l f and could be a team to watch down the stretch.Coach’s comment : “We have a sol id squad, however how well the team does depends on senior leadership.” – Coach Marty Bressler

Coach: Brian Kay (13th year)Last year’s record: 2-12Returning players : Seniors — Jen na Fongem ie, A l l i Con ley, Kaitlyn Roy, Abby Jansen; Juniors — Katie Bosse, Katie Naum, Melissa Murray; Sophomores — Brittany Eastman, McKenna Lachapelle, Monica Stewart.Key losses: Lauren Ratsep, Marisa Zamrock.

Promising newcomers: Freshmen — Jessica Boulet, Emma Samson, Joha nna Cu l lenberg, Madison Gendron, Claudia Erickson.Outlook: After a rare swoon, the Saints appear to be back on the rise again. Defense has been the key for this team as it rebuilds, and it’s likely going to show this season, with a strong back end. If the offense can find its stride as the season moves along, playoffs are possible. Coach’s com ment : ” We have

several veterans on defense and the incoming freshmen should help on the scoring end.” – Coach Brian Kay

Coach: Kevin Cullen (sixth year)Last year’s record : 13-0, M VC cha mps, 2nd at Class C state tourneyReturning players : Seniors — Anthony Fagone, Joe Bryant, Cody Rodrigue, Dan Nadeau, Amanda Turcotte; Junior — Zack DeBlois; Sophomore — Michael Richard.

Key losses: Dylan Rodrigue, Isaac Reed, Kevin Costello.Promising newcomers: Junior — John Marcous.Outlook: This team just doesn’t stop reloading. The Saints have now also established a middle school program and the cupboard continues to replenish itself. Look for this squad to once again take aim at a Class C crown. The senior core of this team was around to see

the program’s most recent title as freshmen, and they would like nothing more but to put their own stamp in the school’s history books.Coach’s comment: ”The core of this team all learned a lot from the previous players, and we have a huge group of freshmen who we hope can continue that tradition in years to come.”– Coach Kevin Cullen

Last year’s undefeated run against the likes of Monmouth. Poland and Gray-New Gloucester left the Rebels feeling optimistic about the logical next step. Nine seniors and above-average size up front will help ease the transition. Mills, who played youth football before turning to

soccer for two years, should be an impact player on both sides. Haines moves from receiver and takes over for four-year starter T.J. O’Connor, the coach’s son, under center. There is football tradition in the archives:

Ben Woodman (SW); Freshman — Ben Bolstridge (FB).Outlook: The Mustangs have a solid group returning and add 11 freshmen to the mix. Fletcher was an all-conference player and

scored 20 goals last year. He is joined by Trenholm and Neal in the middle and Brown and McFarren in the back. West replaces Robbie Neal in goal. Monmouth is hoping to make great strides this season and

be a factor in the playoff chase.Coach’s comment: “We expect to compete at a high level within our conference. We look to improve upon the progress we showed last year. With West, Woodman,

Monmouth should be strong defensively and have experience in the midfield. After just missing the tournament last year, despite a winning record,

Monmouth should contend for a Western C playoff spot. Coach’s comment: “We had a very successful season last year. With the addition of new players and the strong committment of our entire team, we are focused on moving to the next level.” – Coach Gary Trafton

Coach: Isaiah Davis (11th year)Last year’s record: 6-7-1Returning players : Seniors — Nate Miller (FB), Zack Fullerton (MF), Zachary Hudner (MF), Korey Mulherin (G/F); Juniors — Ben Ramser (FB), Christian Fullerton (F), Bi l ly Clark (FB), Brandon Morissette (MF); Sophomore — Matt Thibodeau (MF).Key losses: Elliott Wiegmann (FB), Joshua Chouinard (FB), Kyle Smith (FB), Cooper Legee (MF), Ethan

Leavitt just missed a playoff berth last year and have their sights set on a tourney spot. Davis expects a lot of close ga mes t hat his

team will have to finish strong and earn the wins to get the tourney points they need.

Coach’s comment: ” The playoffs are the goal and if we work hard that should be a goal we can reach.”

– Coach Isaiah Davis

Coach: Chris Cifelli (sixth year)Last year’s record: 12-3-1, lost in Western B semifinalReturning players : Seniors — Sarah Frost (FB), Tori Zupancic (MF), Taren McGray (MF); Juniors — A lex Hud ner (FB), Syd ney Nadeau (FB), Mariah Treadwell (F), Desiree Tweedie (MF); Sophomores — Tatianna Sierra (FB), Kelsea Marchall (F), Kelly Pomerleau (G).

Key losses: Bri Hammond (MF), Abbey Randall (MF), Shannon Clarke (FB), Therese Raymond (FB), Kayla R icha rdson (FB), Ashley Dionne (FB), Jenna Cote (F), Danielle Dubois (F).Promising newcomers: Senior — Sarah Kyllonen (F); Sophomores — Taylor Benson (FB), Monica Beaule (MF), Melissa Richardson (F), Emily Perkins (F); Freshmen — Emily Miller (F), Cora Curtis (MF), Olivia Gilbert (FB).Outlook: The Hornets reached

the Western B semifinals for the f irst t ime last fall and hope to build upon that success. It won’t be easy for Leavitt. The Hornets graduated a wealth of talent and experience, including Hammond, an all-state player, and Randall and Richardson, both all-conference picks. Zupancic is a former all-state player and leads a young team hoping to continue last year’s momentum.Coach’s comment : “There w il l be no soft dates on our schedule

this year and adding Morse and Oceanside to the conference will

only give our conference more depth.” – Coach Chris Cifelli

Coach: Mike Hathaway (10th year)Last year’s record: 11-1. Lost Class B championship gameR e t u r n i n g p l a y e r s : S e n i o r s — J o r d a n H e r s o m ( Q B / S ) , Ja ke Ouel lette (TB/LB), Oscar Rodriguez (RB/DB), Ian Durgin (slot/DB), Jackson Griffin (T/DE), Danny Sleeper (TE/NT); Juniors — Brian Bedard (WR/DB), Devin McMahon (G/DT), Josh Bunker (G/LB), Jake Posic (C/DT).Key losses: Lucas Witham (SE/DB), Jason Fisher (RB/LB), Dylan Moore (DE), Devin Long (RB/LB), Jesse Pelletier (OL/DT), Zach Frost (OL/

the talent and depth to get back to Fitzpatrick Stadium. Hersom has worked hard to make his arm as big a threat as his legs, and if Bedard is healthy, he has another dangerous re c eiver to go w it h D u r g i n .

Ouellette is one of the top two-way players in the PTC, and with Bunker forms the backbone of the defense. They are bigger at the line of scrimmage than last year, but not quite as athletic.

Coach’s comment: “We have a good mix of size and speed and we’ve got a lot of kids we feel we can rotate through (offense and defense).” – Coach Mike Hathaway

Coach: Harry Haylock (eighth year)Last year’s record: 8-2Returning players : Seniors — Tyler Walton, Matt Bilodeau, Zack Richardson, Tony Landry; Junior — Mark Hite.Key losses: Karly Soracco; Eric Dubois.P r o m i s i n g n e w c o m e r s : Sophomore — Br ia n Hiscock; Freshman — Ryan Gosselin.Outlook: The Hornets’ slow climb in K VAC-B paid off last season with a nine-win campaign, and the Hornets may be primed for one more run at the conference. Soracco, one of the best schoolgirls in the state, will be conspicuous

in her absence, as will Dubois, but look for Walton to be a solid leader at the top for this senior-heav y group.

Coach’s comment: ”We have a good crew back and we’d like to think we can do as well as we did last year, but it’s going to be tough.”– Coach Harry Haylock

Eells is as solid as they come in the cage, and Newton, the Fichters and DeGone are a solid

combination up front. Good play through the midfield is always a priority for Ward-McLean’s teams, and with the assembled talent, this team has a good chance to be in

Boys: Senior — Jared Richardson; Freshman — Nick Bachelder.Outlook: While the boys’ team has just enough runners to make a full scoring team, Enos will be strong individually and as a leader to help the team achieve its goals. The girls’ team is talented and is

expected to greatly improve last year’s KVAC and regional performances. Knowlton and Wiegman lead a strong group of girls going into the season.C o a c h ’ s c o m m e n t : “ E v e r y o n e i s f o c u s e d , prepared and energized for a successful and fun season.” – Coach Dustin Williamson

(QB), Zach Glazier (RB).Overview: It may be a rebuilding year for the Ramblers, but they did well the last time they faced an alleged rebuilding year, reaching the semfinals in 2009. Most of their experience is up front, where Reeve, Bowers and Cook lead what should be a strong, fast defense. Moody and Glazier are the latest in a long line of athletic running backs. Hanson and Proctor were battling for the starting QB job in preseason.

There is also some veteran leadership back on defense with Ba rker, Ha m m a n, C a be a nd Kimball.Coach’s comment: ”We have a lot of new faces this year that have not played soccer before, but are good athletes. If we can come together, we should be a tough team. We have

some guys that can really score. Combined with physical play, we should be fun to watch. We are all very excited about the season.” – Coach Travis Magnusson

Coach: Jamie Henderson (second year)Last year’s record: Fourth in EWCReturning players : Senior — Cai lt in Henderson; Junior — Dalton Hart; Sophomore — Owen Bennett.Promising newcomer : Jona h Williams.Outlook: The Bucks had a solid fourth-place showing a year ago, and with a good piece of their lineup back, should make a run at the top of the conference this season.Coach’s comment: “A lot of young players got some good experience last year so I’m looking for the team to compete for the top spot this year.”– Coach Jamie Henderson

Coach: Jim Aylward (23rd year)Last year’s record: 12-0, won Class

They still have a rugged defense,

led by Ryan Glover, one of the best two-way players in the state. The offensive line is experienced, and Radcliffe is a dependable decision-maker under center. Hosie and Duguay take over the tai lback dut ies a nd w i l l cont i nue t he Falcons’ tradition of physical ball-carriers.

Mou nt a i n Va l le y a l so ha s 17 ne w players, including 15 freshmen. That

gives the Falcons experience, depth and hopes of great improvement this season.Coach’s comment: “With a lot of young players to challenge and push the older guys, this should be more than a building year. There is a good nucleus of returners, and a solid inf lux of newcomers to help this team

The Cougars

had a successful campaign a year ago with the minimum five golfers on the squad, and the same will hold true this season. Two of the team’s better golfers are gone, replaced by new seniors. It may take the first half of the short season to acclimate the newcomers to competitive golf, but by tourney time, they expect to be back in the hunt for a playoff position.Coach’s comment: ”I’d like to see us make a fairly deep run in the playoffs this year.” – Coach Seth Fournier

Out look : The Couga rs ret u r n almost the entire team from last year, including an all-state player in Bolduc. Larsen is back after missing all of last year because of an injury. Dirigo should be strong on defense and has Deroche back in goal. The offense should continue to evolve and make the Cougars one of the better clubs in the MVC. Dirigo has lost on penalty kicks in the last two tournaments and hope to get over that hurdle this year.

With him in the midfield and some veteran forwards returning, the Raiders should have some punch up front. The defense should be solid as

well. There’s a lot of incoming talent stepping into new roles, and Albert didn’t take over the program until August. So Oak Hill will have some adjustments early but could build a team that could challenge for a tourney berth.Coach’s comment: “We w il l be a competitive team in the conference this year with a solid core of experienced players. We are a very young and relatively inexperienced, but guys will step up as needed and perform at a high level. Our team will be a tough

Still, there’s a strong returning group that was a key part

of the Raiders run to the playoffs last fall after many near-misses in prev ious seasons. Beaulieu is a threat up front after playing mostly in the goal last year. There’s experience in the midfield and on defense as well.Coach’s comment: “Expect a good passing team with a very strong defense. We look for midfielders to control the pace of the game and feed accurate strikers. We have a very deep team. We should be able to keep fresh feet on the

field without sacrificing talent.” – Coach Nicole Camire

Coach: Mike Pelletier (seventh year)Last year’s record: 1-9

Bra ndon Drot ta r (HB), Edd ie Ada ms ( W R), Nelson Goyet te (OL/DL); Sophomores — Everett Ber t r a nd ( OL B ), Sa m Sc a le s (center), Sam Bridgham (OL).Overview: Poland appeared to turn a corner in October 2010, playing some of the best football in its short history as a program and putting together a pair of impressive wins late in the season. Add the move from Class B to Class C and the christening of lights at their field, and the Knights won’t lack inspiration this fall. Tibbetts,

a for mer Pola nd a ssista nt who has coached with Maine legends John Wolfgram and Mike Landry, is excited about his team’s work ethic. Poland will be a younger team this season, and some of its best athletes will be adapting to new positions. A top-eight f inish and the first-ever playoff berth would represent great progress.Coach’s comment: “I see a rea l commitment to ta k ing care of the details. In practice, the kids wil l say, ‘Let’s do one

more.’ They want that repetition.” – Coach Ted Tibbetts

S op h om or e — Z a c h S t e e l e ; Freshmen — Taylor Morang, Adam Hachey. Monmout h Academy golfers practicing with Winthrop: Sophomore — Robert Vickerson; Freshmen — D.J. McHugh, Joe Manduce.Outlook: In every head-to-head

match, Winthrop, which has at least partially resurrected its team, will give away a point due to the fact that the Ramblers have only four golfers. However, talent will outweigh the lack of depth on many occasions, and the MVC will once again have to pay attention to this

young group.Coach’s comment: “I would hope we could at least make it to the semifinals during the year, and possibly qualify for team states and have one or two make the state individual tournament.”– Coach Lonney Steeves
