Frequent concerns with taking an AP class…
▶ I don’t think I will pass (or score high enough) on the AP exam to get college credit.▶ You don’t need to score a 5, many colleges grant credit, or
placement, with a score of a 3.
▶ Taking AP classes could hurt my GPA.▶ Your decision to take an AP course shows admissions officers that
you are willing to take on the academic challenge of college-level coursework and expectations.
▶ Remember that quarterly grades do not count towards GPA.
Valencia Dual Enrollment▶ College credit awarded through Valencia for taking classes on their
campus (or online through VC)▶ A wide variety of course offerings (over 100 options)▶ Must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA and apply the semester prior
▶ Must have college-level placement scores (PERT, ACT, SAT) into VC by November 3rd.

AP versus Dual Enrollment

challenge themselves in their coursework- this includes AP and DE courses
▶ Much consideration should be given to where you want to end up▶ Out of State or In-State?

Best Practices for Success/Academic Supports● What do I do when your student is struggling in a class?
◦ First, ask your student if she/he has spoken to the teacher directly.⚫ Give the student direction in how to address their issue independently.
◦ Second, reach out to the teacher directly- Teachers email addresses are their [email protected]
◦ Third, if possible have your student attend a tutoring session in that subject area. The schedule will be available on the Student Services Page.
◦ Schedule a parent/teacher conference⚫ Ms. Jadonath: 407-905-2403
◦ Lastly, if you need further assistance, contact your student’s school counselor.
