Group Preschool Swim Lessons (Ages 3-5)This program offers children their first experience in the water without a parent.

Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including: water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various IFD's (instructional flotation devices). Classes maybe combined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Pike with Parent - Is your child just not ready to be alone for swim lessons? This is a transitional class in which we will wean your child away from mom and dad. The next level from here would be Pike. Your child must be 3-years old during the session.

Level 1: Pike - The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel - Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray - In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing, front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing, side alternating paddle, back alternating paddle and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish - In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing, basic breaststroke, backstroke, elementary backstroke, basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing, front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing, side alternating paddle, back alternating paddle and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Gym & Swim - This unique class offers the best of both worlds! In the gym your child will play games and use equipment that will help them develop balance, coordination and creativity. In the pool your child will have a mix of traditional swim lessons and play time. Depending on the class size, age and ability of participants, the class may be split into groups. Bring your child to the gym with their swim suit on under their clothes and pick them up in the pool. All children must be completely potty trained.

School Year Swim Lessons (Ages 3-12)Kroehler Family YMCA and Fry Family YMCA now offer our members School Year Swim Lessons. This new way to sign up for swim lessons makes scheduling your child's activities easier! What this means is you sign up for the day and time of your choice and your spot is secured from Sept. 2nd through May 31st. The staff will move your child through the levels as they advance.

You no longer have to worry about securing their spot each session! If there is ever a time you need to change the day of the week or time of class you should notify Tracy, Aquatics Director, [email protected] for classes at Kroehler or Kyle, Aquatics Director, [email protected] for classes at Fry and they will arrange the change. In addition this makes YMCA swim lessons more affordable than ever! Instead of paying for a whole session in advance, (Sometimes 3 months of lessons!) you are billed monthly for your lessons. If at any time you need to withdraw from lessons you can do so by submitting a withdrawal request 30 days prior to your last lesson.

Members Only

35 weeks of swim lessons (9 months)

*No classes: Nov. 23-Nov. 29 (Thanksgiving Break) Dec. 21-Jan. 3 (Winter Break) Mar. 29-Apr. 4 (Spring Break) April 5 (Easter) May 25(Memorial Day)

Porpoise Swim Team (Ages 6-18)The Naperville YMCA Porpoises Swim Team is targeted to accept as many swimmers, from as wide a variety of competitive backgrounds, as space will permit. Our team includes first year swimmers directly from lessons, as well as National Qualifiers. Participants must have an active membership with the Naperville YMCA's. Porpoise Swim Team is for young athletes who want to compete, or learn to compete, and is not designed as an exercise program. Our fees are based on an "A' La Carte" menu, where you pick, and pay for, from a menu of days to which you will commit. The downside of that, if any, is that we are not flexible in allowing make-ups for missed practices. As new swimmers progress, part of my job is to encourage a deeper commitment to practices, or suggesting a move up in group, to keep challenging the swimmers. We evaluate all new swimmers, prior to sign up, to help ensure proper placement in the various groups. Swimmers must practice with their assigned group. The Head Coach, and primary designer of the training program, has the goal in designing workouts to practice as correctly as possible, at the highest intensity appropriate for that group. Teaching and improving the skills of stroke, turns, finishes and dives is a part of every practice, at every level.

The Coaching Staff feels strongly that, apart from the life skills associated with competition and success, enjoying the process is necessary to keep kids in the sport so they may achieve both their goals and their potential. Porpoise Swim Team Starts September 15th and ends mid March. Sign up for RETURNING Porpoise Team Members and siblings opens July 1st, through the Kroehler front desk. New swimmer sign up event will be on Sunday, July 13th 3:30-5:30pm at Kroehler YMCA. All new swimmers must be evaluated before sign up. Evaluations will be held by appointment. Please email Coach Bob to schedule your evaluation. Participation in a minimum of 3 YMCA meets is required for all team members. Withdrawals from the Porpoise program before Sep. 15th will be charged a $25 service fee; withdrawals after Sep. 15th will be prorated and also will be charged a $25 service fee. No refunds will be made after Oct. 13th, without a documented medical excuse. Porpoise Practice Group Standards Forms and schedules will be available at the front desk after June 20th or are also posted on the website.

Aquacise

This class is a combination of shallow and deep-water exercises. These workouts will range from low to intense cardiovascular workouts along with a variety of techniques to help increase toning, flexibility and strength. Non swimmers are welcome!

Aquasauna

Relax and breath deeply. Let all the stress seep out of your body, into the warm water of our training pool. In this class we will be doing basic sauna postures which have been adapted for the water. Yoga in the pool is a great way to strengthen and stimulate your entire body, leaving you feeling relaxed and ready for your day. Non swimmers are welcome!

Deep Water

This class is a great class for anyone who is comfortable in deep water and needs a "no impact" class. work aerobically while toning core muscles as you stabilize your body position in the water.

Max Fat

This class is a fast-paced class with very little choreography. Come out and get your heart racing, increase your endurance and physical fitness. Class is held in the shallow end of the pool. Non swimmers are welcome!

Silversplash

For a soothing exercise environment, try this water exercise class. Classes are held in shallow water, so you don't need to know how to swim. A Silversneakers kickboard is used to increase strength, and for stability and balance in the water. Members with arthritis or other joint conditions will find the water comforting and the non-impact workout invigorating. This is a great class for those just getting started in water exercise.

This is a flexible program designed for dads and kids to spend quality time together. you will join a “tribe” of other families and friends from your neighborhood or school. Your tibe sets its own agenda for the year and meets monthly for a brief ceremony, games, crafts, or even tribal field trips. There are even special events that are offered monthly to all program participants so that you can interact with other tribes as well.
