Well, here we are finally back in our "home" and ready to get back into the swing of things. We are excited to introduce a new format for our 20/20 newsletter and Fall progam. It was presented to the Board of Directors on
August 16 and their response was awesome. We hope you will agree as well. Kudos to Sharon Oatway and her team (Ariya Kraik, our Summer student, and Rhéa Gravelle) for doing such a great job under the circumstances.
We kick off our Fall program with the "Welcome Back Pancake Breakfast" on Wednesday, September 5 served by the Board of Directors. I can't think of a nicer way to get re-acquainted after such a long absence.
So, welcome back everybody. It's time to put these past few months behind us, enjoy each other's company and most of all, have FUN! I look forward to seeing you all again.
Jackie Lafontaine
Executive Director’s Report
Welcome Back!!! It’s been too long since we’ve been away from the Centre and the friends and fun!
What started out as a simple renovation (the kitchen and storage room floors with minor interruptions to the kitchen and women’s bathroom) has turned into a very large project that resulted in the full closure of our Centre.
However…Behind the scenes we (the Board of Directors, Ariya, Rhéa and myself) have been very busy gathering information and planning for the Fall.
A special thanks to Monique Johnston and Carol Nicholson who ensured all the TAP calls were made daily. And a special thank you to the Foot Care Nurse, Mary Jane Roque and the foot care volunteers, Dawn Kennedy and Avis Halloran. The whole group worked tirelessly through the closure to offer these very important services.
Although you didn’t get to see her for the full 12 weeks, Ariya Kraik, our summer student has been faithfully working from her home, Starbucks, the Public Library and any other WiFi hot spots we could get to! Her fantastic talents with Microsoft Publisher has garnered this new look for the Program. A huge thank you and Good Luck to you in the coming year, Ariya!
Attendance at the special meeting was a testament to the ongoing commitment of the members! Thank you to all who attended or sent in their proxies. The whole experience was a great learning for everyone involved. It was democracy at its best!!
We were very fortunate to receive a Grant from the Community Foundation of Ottawa for the Intergenerational Alzheimer Project!! Lester B Pearson High School, Gloucester Senior Adults’ Centre and Laurier Manor will once again take up partnership and together brighten the day of some folks who are living with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias.
25 years in operation!! The Anniversary Party planners have been busy! Please mark your calendars for October 16th. Pine View Golf course will be decked out in its finest! Prime Rib and dancing! I love a party!

Tip of the Hat
A big thank you to Jackie Lafontaine and André Gascon for their tireless help during the closure!

Rhéa’s eulogy was both sincere and funny, and her wonderful, touching message was well-received. Thank you for being such a great ambassador for our Centre!
