BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER

Dear Friends,Dear Friends,Dear Friends,Dear Friends, As our summer comes to an end it is time to start thinking about safety as it relates to children going back to school; the busses will be on the roads, kids will be walking to school, crossing guards will be manning the busy intersections and we adults will be struggling to not only get our kids to bed at a decent time but, also to get back into our fall routines. Whatever fall brings to your life I know that it will be

different from the care-free days of summer. To many of us fall means going back to our Y classes on a different day or at a different time. To others fall may mean starting to come to the Y regularly or stepping out of that comfort zone and attending a class that we have never tried before. Because we are the Y we want everyone to feel welcome when they enter our doors. The staff and I can’t do it alone. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Many times we are the only social contact a person may have for the entire day, hard to imagine but true. Let’s make the day special for everyone. Here’s how you can help:

• Introduce yourself and learn something about the person you are meeting.

• Show them to their class or a specific place in the Y.

• Introduce them to the instructor and other participants.

• Give up your spot in class or help them set-up a spot.

• Help them adjust a machine or get a treadmill going.

• Explain an exercise or term they may not understand.

• Tell them the Life Guards name. Easiest of all is just to acknowledge them and let them know that you care! Friends addressing the Y’s focus of Social Responsibility,

Terri Falkenberg Executive Director & Aquatics

WINTER SWIM TEAM September 16– March 24, 2014 · AGES 4-19 Come join a winning team where everyone swims and everyone wins!

YMCA programs make a difference. Programs such as swim lessons, youth sports, gymnastics and competitive swimming do more than teach skills, they teach confidence and responsibility. Y programs also teach young people to be strong in spirit, mind and body. The Y team is for swimmers who would like to be a part of a positive social team atmosphere. Swimmers are grouped by age / skill level and may come as often or as little as they choose. Swim team members must be active members of the Y, between the ages of 4 -19, and be able to swim 25 yards either on their back or on their stomach.
