We have done what we once thought was impossible. Choosing to better ourselves and follow a path that makes us fulfilled and happy. I know from my time on campus and online it has been difficult and required adjustments to lifestyle more than once but mores the merrier! We have shown we have what it takes to adapt, persevere, and overcome the obstacles in our way either with grace or stumbling all the way we have done it!

Tomorrow always seems so far off and so close at the same time, just like assignment due dates, but everything you have worked so hard to accomplish over your time at triOS is going to make that tomorrow brighter and better. Let’s keep that momentum going and live in today the best we can to move towards that tomorrow we have achieved for ourselves. Good day to all the honoured guests, family, friends, instructors and staff, founders of triOS College, Mr. Frank Gerencser and Mr. Stuart Bentley, and, of course, the distinguished class of 2021. I am truly honoured to be virtually speaking to all of you inside your heads to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our great class.

If you had told me two years ago that in two years I would graduate at the top of my class, get hired immediately after completing my internship, work alongside high-ranking officials globally, AND be selected as the valedictorian of my class, I would have recommended to you a career in stand-up comedy. Never would I have imagined of accomplishing such feats, yet here I stand as living proof. And not just myself – each and every one of the graduates here today are living proof that we strived and persevered.

Graduating from triOS College was not my first rodeo, so to speak. The first time I graduated was back in Lebanon, where I started university at the age of sixteen and graduated at the age of twenty. No, those are not typos. Sixteen years old and I was tasked with choosing a field of study, a career, and ultimately the course of my life. As the years quickly passed by, I started to realize I had no passion for what I was studying, let alone pursue a career. I was too young and naïve, and the choices I had made cost me dearly. And after graduating and moving back to Canada, the final nail in the coffin was discovering that I would have to repeat almost all the courses I had already taken to receive an accredited degree. I could not bring myself to go through university all over again. Whatever motivation I had left completely vanished, and that coffin would remain nailed shut for eleven years.

Motivation was, is, and will always be the most important feeling for anyone seeking an education, and even more so for those returning to college. It took me eleven years of bouncing around between jobs and not getting anywhere in life for that one moment that would change my life. My motivation came in the form of an incredible young woman, who would later become my fiancée. Without saying a single word about returning to college, she motivated me to return to college. Simply being with her inspired me to do better for myself, for us and our future, and I grasped that motivation and aimed as high as I could. And I strongly believe that every single graduate reading this has experienced that feeling. All the graduates that juggled work and college, all the married and single parents that balanced children and studying, all those men and women have my utmost respect for their motivation and perseverance and deserve a big round of applause.

Lastly, I would like to thank all the instructors for not only the knowledge and first-hand experience they granted to me but most importantly for teaching me how to improve my mindset and critical thinking, which would prove to be invaluable in my career and life. I would also like to thank all my fellow classmates during the last year. Our time together was short and studying virtually seemed to have made that time feel even shorter, but you made each day worthwhile, and you will all be sorely missed. Finally, to everyone out there that will be or has thought about attending college, let this be an inspiration for you. The path you take towards an education is not one you will be taking alone. For you see, I would not be standing here today if it were not for the instructors that guided me, my classmates that encouraged me, and my family that motivated me. Thank you all! Stay healthy and safe and have a wonderful life and a prosperous career. You have all earned it.

My fellow graduates, alumni, staff, and family members it gives me great pleasure to greet you as this years Valedictorian for the Hamilton Campus, triOS College.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Hektor Kaczuga, recent Supply Chain and Logistics graduate. Like many of you, my life was turned upside down when the world changed in March 2020. After a 25-year long career in Tourism I found myself, unemployed, uncertain, and scared of change. Just like each and every one of you for one reason or another we had to change our paths and for us this meant education.

The past year for myself, and I am certain for most, was a roller coaster ride. Could I do it? Would I be smart enough? Would I find that job? The answer to that was YES! We were smart enough, we made our personal and college life balance, we did find that dream job!

They say it takes a village to raise a child, in our case it takes a community to educate that child. Our community was formulated with the help of our loved ones, who cheered for us behind the scenes. Our remarkable instructors who shared their knowledge, stories, and their encouragement. The wonderful administrative staff who helped with each step of the journey from enrollment to employment. I would like to say a big, thank you, triOS, you are a college, but you treat us like family!

I would like to Congratulate each and everyone of you on all your hard work, your perseverance, and your tenacity. All those late hours studying, the stress, the exams. It all paid off; YOUDIDIT!

In closing I leave you with a quote from the late Nelson Mandela:

We all have walked different paths that have led to this day, whether you come from a poor upbringing (such as myself) or from a whole different country. The starting point can be anywhere, but we all have reached this destination, but it’s not our last. I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels as if we have been in a marathon. Late night studying or working on a project while juggling our crazy lives. It’s the beginning to another branch in your life. We have made different career choices, Massage Therapists or Police Foundations, I can guarantee we have left here with the tools needed to thrive in the fields we have chosen.

triOS became my choice due to the IT program. And standing here today, I can say with absolute certainty, I made the right choice. Even though I only spent a year in the classroom due to these crazy times we live in, it always felt like a second home. Thanksgiving turkey to the student assemblies, it always felt like a community. I just want to thank the faculty and my fellow students for this experience and cherished memories. May your days be long and your hardships few.

A warm hello to all my fellow students who join the ranks of triOS Alumni today.

I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to share my thoughts as the Fall Valedictorian 2021. I would like to start by thanking all the Instructors for their endless reserves of patience and the resourcefulness they brought to every single virtual class. I would also like to recognise and acknowledge the efforts of the Campus Director and the office staff for being responsive and smoothing out all the virtual wrinkles to make the learning process very efficient. A special word of thanks for the Employment Specialists who went above and beyond their job descriptions to become mentors and friends in a new and challenging professional landscape.

In a year that has been unlike any in recent memory, where people lost their lives, jobs, savings and plans for the future, wishing for a graduation ceremony might seem like a frivolous indulgence, but I wish we could have celebrated this together with the traditional pomp and grandeur – because graduation ceremonies are a big deal!

This graduation, in particular, is all the more important for everyone who showed resilience and endurance by going to class at their kitchen tables, by learning to operate Teams classes & online exams, by working tirelessly on group assignments without meeting their team members … but most of all this graduation ceremony is a celebration for all those who, as a global event was changing the very way we live, chose to invest themselves in education. This graduation ceremony is a tribute to all those who decided to blaze their own trail when it would have been so much easier to binge watch Netflix or focus on the frightening news cycles.

I wish we could all have the graduation we deserve, with all our near and dear ones celebrating our success, taking pictures and etching this occasion in each of our personal histories. But by missing this ceremony we have all realised something much more important, much more powerful…..the confidence to keep going in the face of adversity and the unshakeable belief in taking charge of our own destinies. It is this invincible spirit in each one of you that I would like to pay homage to.

I know, that we the graduating class of fall 2021, are ready for what lies ahead. Because we are the class that did not give up! My heartiest congratulations to each one of you as we celebrate this success and my best wishes for all the professional adventures that await you in the future.

In parting, let me leave you with the wise words of Ralph Waldo Emerson that embody all that we have accomplished in these disconcerting times –

First, I would really like to thank ALLAH, my parents, my beautiful daughter, honored Director, respected teachers, staff, and my fellow students at triOS College, I feel so honoured to commemorate the memories and accomplishments of our great class.

Through this past year with all the unforeseen tough situations going on in the world, I have seen us all discover and devote ourselves to our passions and grow immensely as a result. I believe it was really a great time to work on our futures as studying online helped us keep busy and safe at home and not get stressed about the world’s heartbreaking situations.

On behalf of all my fellow students, I would really like to thank our mentor, guide, motherly figure, and strength SHOLEHHOSSEINZADEH. She helped us to overcome all the hurdles and made everything so easy and smooth for us. I would also like to thank all the staff members and our Director Ravi Kaur for being there for us always. It would have not been easy studying online without all of you. I am thankful to all my fellow students for being there for me always it was not easy for me to study after a ten-year gap and with an infant at home but today I am so proud that I took this decision and finally got a placement at a renowned payroll company.

First of all, I want to start thanking everyone at triOS College for opening the doors for a bright future for me and many others. Doug Jasper was my instructor, he made this journey so fun and enjoyable. I never thought I would love programming this much.

Before going to triOS I was in a big dilemma, I had no idea what I wanted to do until I came across triOS college. I found the Web Development program and with a little knowledge I had about programming I noticed triOS had everything I thought I needed to become who I am now. And yes, every single thing I learnt comes across to my everyday job. A job that I got thanks to Navin. He helped me master my resume to give myself a chance to work in the IT industry. It has all been nothing but a memorable time with amazing people, classmates, instructors, and every single person from triOS’ staff.

I wish everyone graduating a successful career, you should celebrate what you have achieved, it’s been a long way and not everyone can make it through. This is what we have all aimed for.

Sometimes the toughest battles make great victories. The pandemic changed everything. It made studying harder. It made pursuing dreams crucifying. But when you pick the right institution, you are sculpted by the right hands. I am truly glad I choose triOS college for firming my foundation in a Digital Marketing career. Our instructors Ms. Nohoal, Mr Vik, Ms. Jacqui and especially Ms. Nyima - not only taught us the concepts, but also crafted our minds to excel in a long-term career.

Despite not being able to attend college in person, we were provided with excellent virtual support, and honed to perfection for our paths in Digital Marketing. My internship host Ms. Lea from UforChange has been a key to first step in my career and she gave me incredible opportunities.

This diploma in Digital Marketing required me to put in hard work, learning, listening, research, and application. The other most important factor is speaking and sharing. Strong communication with instructors and my fellow classmates opened me up to learning a lot more than I would if I stayed in the shadows. The strong support of my family, my instructors, and staff from the triOS Scarborough campus, and me putting in late nights, and studying through covid made me who I am today.

At the end, like Ms. Nyima always said- It’s about showing up everyday. You don’t quit. You just show up everyday and that makes all the difference.
