Energy Efficiency – Turn Down the Watt(Grades K – 12)
Teachers will learn about basic energy and how to perform a simple energy audit. Students can take this information and perform basic energy audits in the classroom and at home. Learning how to measure energy and modify use will help SMUD become carbon free by 2030. Class materials will be mailed to you.
What is Climate Change and Carbon Dioxide?(Grades 4 – 12)
Did you know that climate change is affecting our lives in Sacramento? SMUD is working to make our power supply carbon free by 2030. Teachers will learn how to simulate the greenhouse effect in a beaker really to understand how carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases behave in our atmosphere. Activities will also explore energy-related behaviorsthat contribute to climate change. Teachers will receive materials.
Inchworm Robot Engineering (Grades 4 – 8)
Wiggle. Wiggle. Get into STEAM learning and experience an inchworm robotic kit from littleBits and learn how to teach the force standards. Apply scientific ideas to design, test and refine this device which converts energy from one form to another. This may also be used to plan an engineering competition during which the basic kit and some maker space materials can be used to create a race. Robotic kit will be mailed to you.
