REGISTRATION, POLICIES, & PROCEDURES

HOW TO REGISTER

Online: www.peabodyrecreation.com. You will need to create an account if you are new to our department; otherwise you will need your username and password in order to utilize the online program registration system. Online registration is live.

Office Walk in: Payments can be made by check, credit card or cash. All payments are due at time of registration, unless arraigned otherwise.

Mail in: A completed program waiver must be sent along with full payment. Please do not send cash. Checks should be made out to Peabody Recrea-tion Department. If paying with a check, please indicate the program regis-tering for in the memo & amounts.

Phone registrations are NOT accepted. Registration & payments are not accepted at program sites.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Age or Grade Requirements: Participants must meet the age or grade re-quirements by the first day of the program or session.

Low enrollment: Programs must meet the minimum number of partici-pants one week prior to start date or program may be cancelled. To avoid this we urge you to register EARLY!

Fees: Full payment is due at time of registration unless otherwise stated or unless a payment plan has been previously set up with the Recreation De-partment. There is a $25.00 charge for all returned checks.

Waiting Lists: If a program is full by the time we receive and process your registration we will add you to the waiting list and contact you immediately if and when an opening becomes available.

Program changes: Many of our programs are held in city facilities, occa-sionally locations and/or program dates may change. We will email any changes to any previously registered participants. Please check our website for updated information.

Refund/ Credit Policy: When you register for one of our programs, we de-pend on your participation to make it successful. A full refund will be made only if programs are cancelled by our department, or you have an unfore-seen medical problem confirmed by a doctor’s note. If you are dissatisfied with a program for any reason and wish to cancel, the Recreation Dept. must be notified in writing before the beginning of the second class to be considered to receive a refund minus a $10.00 processing fee or a credit will be placed in your account for future use.

CANCELLATIONS

Cancellation policy: We will do our best to reschedule a make up for a

cancelled class, however we cannot guarantee it. If we are unable to offer a make up class, we will issue a credit for that class.

Cancellation Hotline: If you are questioning if your class is cancelled due to weather call our at (978) 536-0600 (Press 2, then press 1, and 1 when prompted). We will also post all cancellations on our Facebook pages.

Besides the weather cooling down, it’s a fun filled time of year that means apples and pumpkins are ready for har-vesting and the trees around us are changing! We’ll experience all the wonders fall has to offer each week through activities that involve a senso-ry play, arts and crafts, and some simple science experiments.

Each week we will learn a little about these amazing animals through activities that involve a sensory play, arts and crafts, and some simple science experiments. This is an indoor program. If the weather and temperatures allow, we will venture outside for a little exploration!

Challenger Open Gym

Upon registration, a parks package will be made for you to pick up at

the recreation department. A package will include various games, crafts,

and activities that can be completed on your own schedule at the vari-

ous parks around the City. The package contents will be a surprise, but

are guaranteed to get your child moving, thinking, and outdoors this

season.

A package will include at least 10 activities.

Activities are geared for elementary school aged children.

Deadline to register for a fall package is Monday, September 23rd.

Packages will be available for pick up starting Monday, October 7th.

Any Package not picked up by October 21st will be donated.

Cost: $25-resident, $30-non residents

Instructors: Maureen Sammon & Kierstin Merlino Making gingerbread houses is one of the highlights of the Holiday Season. Join us after school and we’ll provide everything you need to create an ed-ible masterpiece. This is a drop off program.

Instructor: Joyce Kachinski Learn how to use a Rigid heddle loom to create your own work of art. Design fabric from repurposed materials such as plastic bags, table cloths, ropes, yarn, ribbons and strips of fabric. All materials will be pro-vided, but participants are invited to bring along any materials they would like to incorporate into their creation. The fabric you weave can be seen into a cool reusable bag or hung on your wall as an awesome piece of art!

Hit the slopes this January with Peabody Recreation! This 6 week ski /snowboard program is designed for the beginner or advanced student in grades 6-12. Never been skiing before or do not have equipment? No problem, weekly 1 hour lessons and rentals are available for additional cost.

Disc Golf Club

Instructor: Steve Kouroyen

Interested in learning to play a new sport? This program allows kids to learn the basics of disc golf, and is available for all skill levels. We meet at Peabody's very own Scouting Woods 9 hole disc golf course. By the end of the program your child will know how to drive, take an upshot, and putt like a pro. All equipment is provided.

Learn the fundamentals of archery in a class that carefully bal-ances safety and fun through a progression of challenges and archery games. This introductory course will teach kids patience, confidence, and skills needed to succeed as a beginner archer. The “learn by playing” philosophy allows for everyone to develop proper shooting while focusing their mind on an objective or goal. All equipment provided. HOMESLICE PUPPETRY: Best Supporting Actor! (Foam & Rod puppets) & What's under the Hood? (Simple Mechanism Puppets): This introductory course will be the perfect entry into a whole new world of the serious and silly-side of this an-cient craft. What color do you make your puppet? Should it be furry or smooth? This class is centered on creating a character, all of the elements needed to do so, and why those decisions are so important when creating a character. We will also learn about the use of polyfoam in puppetry and how dynamic it can make your puppet. Students will then proceed to create their character and build their very own foam & rod puppets. In the afternoon we’ll go for broke and build a second more complex foam puppet with a mechanism. OUTSIDE THE LINES, ART CAMP: Join us for a fun filled day creating unique art projects, playing old school games, meeting some new friends! In this class you will learn the history of Reiki and how to conduct a reiki session,

your hand chakras will be opened and you will learn how to transmit energy. At

All levels are welcome to a fitness class that offers everything from strength

training, cardio, agility, balance work, core strengthening and flexibility. Sessions

are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays from 5:30-6:30 am at Peabody

Veterans Memorial High School Field House. There are two options to choose

from: $126 for 3 days per week or $96 for 2 days per week.

Total Body Conditioning

Come learn to fence with the best in a positive, energetic, and casual atmosphere! Founded in 1958 by Maître

Joe Pechinsky, TCFC is led by Jane Hall Carter and James Carter, a team of highly accomplished fencers and

coaches who donate their time each week to advance the sport of fencing.

Fencing promotes physical fitness, the ability to develop strategy and concen-

tration, and builds comradery and respect. TCFC is open to fencers ages 7 and

up, kids and adults, from beginners to competitive fencers - no experience

necessary: all skill levels are welcome. Membership with TCFC includes group

and private lessons, as well as open fencing in foil, sabre, and épée. In addi-

tion, informal instruction is always available from other members. The club

provides all necessary fencing equipment. There is no floor fee; a nominal yearly membership helps defray

equipment costs.

cone ornaments, and luminaries!

Special events It’s the Great Pumpkin Carving Contest! Nothing

symbolizes Halloween like the gap-toothed grin

of a jack o’ lantern. Pumpkin carving continues to

be an annual ritual in many households and like

most holiday traditions, it’s most enjoyable when

you share it with friends and family.... and now,

your community! So, unleash your creativity and

paint, carve or decorate a pumpkin by yourself,

with friends, or as a group. Best of all, you get to

keep your masterpiece and we will share it on

Peabody Main Streets and our social media.
