Ontario Graduate Scholarship OGS: $15,000

Canada Graduate Scholarship Masters CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC CGS M: $17,500 (research

intensive masters programs only)

CGS holders are also eligible to apply for the Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement ($6,000)

If eligible, you can apply for both the Tri-Council CGS and the OGS awards.

However...

You can only hold one award at a time.

General Guidelines

• You can receive a maximum of four years of federal government-funded student awards (six years combined).

• Applications completed this fall are for awards to be held during the 2016-2017 academic year. Note: eligible recipients may elect to start award as early as May 2016 (SP 2016 term).

• You do not need to be admitted to a graduate program at the time of application.

• Canadian citizen or permanent residents only• Applying for support to pursue your 1st graduate

degree & not have completed more than 12 months of full-time graduate study at the proposed start date of the award

• Have a first-class average (A- or 80%) in each of the last two years of full-time study or equivalent

• Not already received an award for Master’s level study from a Tri-Council Agency

• An eligible graduate program must have a significant research component

• Open to all students – domestic or international• Have a first-class average of A- (80%) in each of

the last two years of full-time study or equivalent• If entering the 3rd year of graduate studies at time

of application you must have an overall average of at least A- (or equivalent), on all graduate courses completed

• Only grades completed up to the end of August 30, 2015 will be considered

• National deadline of Dec 1, 2015 for all students that want to hold an award at the Master’s level - regardless of where you want to hold the award

• ONLY OFFICIAL Transcripts will be accepted; order official transcripts from Office of Registrar (issued to you) open & upload to online application

• Results released to WLU applicants by FGPS & on Tri-Council Research Portal on April 1st, 2016

• WLU deadline (to hold award at WLU): online application opens Oct 1, 2015 & closes on Jan 15, 2016, 4:30 p.m.

• Official or web view of transcripts/grades uploaded to online application

• Deadline for referees to submit Academic Assessment Report is Jan 29, 2016, 4:30 p.m.

• Results released by end of March to early April by FGPS

Common scholarship application components: Application Form: complete all sections that apply Transcripts: official transcripts (order now!) References: choose wisely Research Proposal: clear, concise, realistic….

• Tri-Council Master’s and OGS require two references • Tri-Council Master’s applications require a Common CV

(CCV)• OGS requires a statement of interest; if your program does

not involve a thesis or MRP, outline research training component of degree
