VOLUME 37 – NO. 11 NOVEMBER 2014 We recently completed working through the book of Philippians in our Sunday morning worship services. The theme of that book and our series was “Rejoice!” We talked a lot about the joy that is ours as children of God, and I hope as a result, you’ve been thinking about joy in your own life. It seems to me that joy is closely related to thanksgiving (which happens to be the name of a holiday which we will observe near the close of this month). When I am filled with joy, I am also filled with gratitude for all that God has done and is doing. When I am spending time giving thanks, I am much more likely to have a joy- ful attitude. On Thanksgiving Day, we often take time to be thankful…..for a moment or even several hours. But then our thoughts quickly turn back to eating, watching football, vacation plans, or our jobs. If you’re like me, giving thanks can too easily become just a small blip in the big picture. Here’s a challenge for you in November: could you find something to be thankful for every day this month instead of just one? It may sound like a difficult task, but you might be surprised (once you start thinking about it) at how much you have to be thankful for. We have so many reasons to rejoice! Make a plan to make thanksgiving a part of every day in November. Perhaps you can place a note or heading on your calendar, reminding you to be grateful this month. You could make a point to write “thanksgiving” on every day of your November calendar so it becomes a part of your daily routine. Pick a time of day that works best for you. Will you take 5 minutes in the morning before you head to work or school? Will you share your thanksgivings around the dinner table with your family? Could you take a few moments before bedtime to think of something you’re grateful for? And once you have a time of day selected, think of a way to keep record of God’s many gifts. You could write them down in a notebook or journal. Your family could keep a running list on a chalkboard or whiteboard. If you are technologically inclined, you could post your thanksgivings on Facebook or Twitter using a hashtag: #thirtydaysofthanks. I’ll help get you started with one reason to give thanks: Today, I am thankful for Faith Lu- theran Church – a place to come and hear God’s Word, and more importantly, a people, a community of believers, a family of faith that loves and cares for one another as we seek to follow Jesus. You are all such a blessing to me. I am thankful for the wisdom you share in bible classes and from hospital beds; I am grateful for your words of encouragement and selfless service; I am privileged to share this journey of life alongside such a varied, unique, kind and faithful community. Thanks be to God for our family of Faith! That’s one great blessing that we all share. And you’ll have many more to celebrate this month as you spend time giving thanks. Take some time each day be thankful. It doesn’t have to be long—just a few moments to express your gratitude to God for his many gifts. So many reasons to be thankful—so many reasons for joy. I’ll look forward to hearing what blessings you can come up with. If you’d like, you can share your thanksgivings on our website (www.afamilyoffaith.com ). Under the “Resources” tab you can click the link for “thanksgivings.” There you can type out and submit all that you are thankful for and we will praise God for those gifts during our Thanksgiving Eve service on November 26 th at 7 pm. VOLUME 37–NO. 11 NOVEMBER 2014
We recently completed working through the book of Philippians in our Sunday morning worship
services. The theme of that book and our series was “Rejoice!” We talked a lot about the joy that is ours as
children of God, and I hope as a result, you’ve been thinking about joy in your own life. It seems to me
that joy is closely related to thanksgiving (which happens to be the name of a holiday which we will
observe near the close of this month). When I am filled with joy, I am also filled with gratitude for all that
God has done and is doing. When I am spending time giving thanks, I am much more likely to have a joy-
ful attitude.
On Thanksgiving Day, we often take time to be thankful…..for a moment or even several hours.
But then our thoughts quickly turn back to eating, watching football, vacation plans, or our jobs. If you’re
like me, giving thanks can too easily become just a small blip in the big picture. Here’s a challenge for you
in November: could you find something to be thankful for every day this month instead of just
one? It may sound like a difficult task, but you might be surprised (once you start thinking about it) at
how much you have to be thankful for. We have so many reasons to rejoice!
Make a plan to make thanksgiving a part of every day in November. Perhaps you can place
a note or heading on your calendar, reminding you to be grateful this month. You could make a point to
write “thanksgiving” on every day of your November calendar so it becomes a part of your
daily routine. Pick a time of day that works best for you. Will you take 5 minutes in the
morning before you head to work or school? Will you share your thanksgivings around the
dinner table with your family? Could you take a few moments before bedtime to think of
something you’re grateful for? And once you have a time of day selected, think of a way to
keep record of God’s many gifts. You could write them down in a notebook or journal. Your
family could keep a running list on a chalkboard or whiteboard. If you are technologically
inclined, you could post your thanksgivings on Facebook or Twitter using a hashtag:
#thirtydaysofthanks.
I’ll help get you started with one reason to give thanks: Today, I am thankful for Faith Lu-
theran Church – a place to come and hear God’s Word, and more importantly, a people, a community of
believers, a family of faith that loves and cares for one another as we seek to follow Jesus. You are all such
a blessing to me. I am thankful for the wisdom you share in bible classes and from hospital beds; I am
grateful for your words of encouragement and selfless service; I am privileged to share this journey of life
alongside such a varied, unique, kind and faithful community. Thanks be to God for our family of Faith!
That’s one great blessing that we all share. And you’ll have many more to celebrate this month as
you spend time giving thanks. Take some time each day be thankful. It doesn’t have to be long—just a few
moments to express your gratitude to God for his many gifts. So many reasons to be thankful—so
many reasons for joy. I’ll look forward to hearing what blessings you can come up with. If you’d like,
you can share your thanksgivings on our website (www.afamilyoffaith.com). Under the “Resources” tab
you can click the link for “thanksgivings.” There you can type out and submit all that you are thankful for
and we will praise God for those gifts during our Thanksgiving Eve service on November 26th at 7 pm.

A sincere thank you to Pastor Dunbar for his visits and prayers while I was in the
hospital. Also, thank you to the family of Faith for prayers and cards while in the hospi-
tal and during my long period of recovery. Robert Borchers
To all of our family of Faith we thank you very much for your prayers, thoughts, cards, and flow-
ers sent to JoAnn during her time in the hospital, and also to us after her passing. Even though it is
difficult, we as believers know that death is not a “tragedy,” but a triumph! Also, thank you to Pastors
Dunbar and Davis, Joel and Ellen Jank, and the ladies that served the lunch. Blessings to all. The family of JoAnn Grabill
We would like to express our deepest thanks to family members of Faith for remembering Mom and

Mom and for all the support he gave to our family at her passing. Craig & Linda Parnell & families

Sundays
THE SUNDAY LESSONS [E-100]- Fellowship hall - 9:15AM This class takes an in-depth look at the scripture lessons taken from the
Sunday morning readings. Class leader is Pastor Dunbar.
THE STORY [E-101]- Room 10– 9:15AM - CLASS CONTINUED
The Story continues to work its way through a 31-week entire Bible narrative.
Parents of 5th-8th grade students, you have the opportunity to study the
same material as your child only geared for adults. Take home some discussion
points to continue with your child at home. If you missed the first weeks of this class
and would like to attend, come talk with class leader, DCE Wade Johnson.
TRUE CONFESSIONS [H-400]- Room 101 -began on Reformation Sunday, October 26th
Nearly 500 years ago, a group of Christian reformers in Germany took a stand against the religious
establishment of their day and boldly put forth a clear and concise statement of their beliefs, based on
the Bible. That statement is known as the Augsburg Confession, and Lutherans have subscribed to
it ever since. During this five week study we will examine this document, its background, purpose and
meaning for us today. Class leader- Pastor Josh
Tuesdays
MEN’S BREAKFAST BIBLE STUDY [P-100]- Ray’s Café - 7:00AM Have you ever wondered what Mormonism is all about? Some of the words and phrases of the
Mormon faith are similar to what Lutherans use so what’s the difference? For answers to these
questions and more gather with fellow brothers around the coffee or breakfast table for this study.
Contact Bill Henkel, 402-461-6624 for more information.
Wednesdays
MORNING BIBLE STUDY [P-200]- 9:00AM- Room 11- Pastor Dunbar, leader Our get-togethers start with a time of coffee, treats, and visiting, and then, after a brief devotion,
we get to talking about the past Sunday’s sermon. These casual discussions lead to new insight and
good, personal application of the pastor’s message, not to mention close bonds of friendship.
EVENING BIBLE STUDY - 6:30PM– Room 10 -Pastor Dunbar, leader NO HIGHER POWER: A STUDY OF COLOSSIANS [E-300] Colossians, a letter of St. Paul, focuses on the central topic of the lordship of Jesus Christ and what
that means. What will it look like when Christ reigns supreme in our hearts? Together, we are read-
ing the text, praying, and listening to what God is saying, and then sharing our thoughts.
Adult Education in November
Key to choosing an adult Bible Study
C= Cultural ..deals with a contemporary issue or current event E= Exegetical..study of a certain book or section of the Bible H= Historical..how people, places, events fit together chronologically P= Practical.. a specific issue or practice in your life
100 level- No prior knowledge of subject needed 200 level- Some Biblical knowledge helpful 300 level- More challenging subject matter using your own Bible 400 level- Expect reading homework assignments and a “dig deep” attitude
Please know , this is a tool to categorize classes, not people, and we’ll be happy to see you at whatever class you choose. We hope this will help you to stay engaged, challenged, and growing in your faith. See you in class!
