I do enjoy the Royal Family generally, I’m not to bothered that we are a constitutional monarchy, I think our system of government works well enough. At the very least the things that are broken about it aren’t that we have a Queen. But I digress. I like watching Royal things from time to time. Of course, on the weekend just gone Princess Eugenie got married to Jack someone. It was on telly, my mother-in-law is visiting so … we watched it. Eugenie is now one of my favourite royals. I loved that she wore a dress that showed a long scar down her back in recognition of her imperfection. Wonderful. She had had spinal surgery as a child and wanted to celebrate those that helped her through that time by making that obvious. She also used the opportunity to advocate for women with the idea that you don’t have to be perfect, that our ‘scars’ are part of what make us special. I just loved it. Our Queen has been on the throne for over 60 years, the longest time of any English monarch ever. I have never been alive without Liz as my sovereign. Prince William and Kate seem to be nice, ordinary parents of young kids. If being ridiculously rich and privileged is ordinary, but you know what I mean. They are trying to have a go with their kids as best they can given what is ahead of them in years to come. One day that little lad, George, will be king. For all the privilege they enjoy there is something daunting and almost fateful about knowing that from day one. What a remarkable thing indeed to be the child of a king. And so how does the line of succession go? Charles, William, George, Charlotte, Louis, Harry. After Harry, until he has kids, is Andrew, Charlie’s Brother, then his kids, Beatrice and Eugenie (I’m going for her) and then on to the next royal line Edward and his kids then Anne and hers. It really is quite fascinating if a little old-fashioned and irrelevant. So, we all sit back and watch it unfold from a distance. The scandals of the 80’s and 90’s seem to be behind the Royal Family. We all love, or at least respect, the Queen and her achievement and dedication. We all watch the royal weddings, keep an eye on the royal tours, get to know the new generation, talk to our kids about who Lady Di was, what the scandal was with Fergie and how the new royals are getting their act together. And the show goes on. And on Monday we wander back to work, drop the kids to school, pay the bills, cook the dinner, find time for glass of wine with our friends on a Friday night. We do our best with our ordinariness and wonder what it would be like to actually be a child of the king. Or perhaps we already know. Shane Altmann Principal

8 Royal BloodHarry is going to Dubbo. My home town. If you have missed the big news Prince Harry and Megan Markle (or Megan Windsor, or Sussex, or whatever her last name is now) are hitting the Big D as part of their royal tour this year.

And Fraser Island.

Man, it seems that everywhere I used to live is part of the royal route. Okay so maybe Hervey Bay is not exactly Fraser Island, but if they fly in that could be where they land.

I will be watching, not too closely, the Royal Tour.

SECONDARY SCHOOL Term 4 is one of my favourite terms of the school year. By Term 4 students are well and truly settled into the College and getting through what needs to be done. In Term 4 we also have a chance to reflect on the year that has been and all the amazing things our students at Faith have achieved. But most of all I love Term 4 because it is the time when we begin to look forward to the following year and how we can continually improve the experience of our students and what we offer at the College.

There have been some fantastic things happening this year and from initial discussion 2019 is shaping up to be even better.

FITNESS EQUIPMENT - One of the exciting things happening in the Secondary School this term is the arrival of our Secondary School Fitness Equipment. This will be setup on the vacant piece of land between M-Block and the Cleveland-Redland Bay Road.

The pictures below are computer models of what it will look like once in place. Please keep an eye out for information sent to families soon with further information about the installation.

I would like to personally thank the P&FA who are kindly supporting this project on our Secondary Campus in 2018.

EVENTS - Term 4 is a busy time with several key events happening for our students.

Please check the College calendar along with information sent out during the holidays.

JUNIOR SCHOOLICAS RESULTS – Congratulations to the following students on achieving outstanding ICAS academic results in the English and Maths competitions. INAUGURAL YEAR 6 CANBERRA TOUR – At the end of last term our Year 6 students visited Canberra for an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $60 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs (factored into the Tour fee). The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

We’d like to take the opportunity to thank the students for their engagement and behaviour on the trip, it was outstanding. The trip would not have been possible without the help of the parents and teachers who attended, thank you. We would also like to particularly thank Ms Kristin Gale for her efforts in coordinating the tour and Mrs Caroline Hay and Mrs Vicki Gadsdon for also leading the tour. TRAFFIC SAFETY – can we please ask parents to always put the safety of ALL children first. It can be busy, especially in peak traffic times but slowing down and keeping a watchful eye on our students is most important. Thank you.

BANDANNA DAY – Friday, 26 October. A selection of Bandanna’s are available for purchase from the Junior School Office or outside the ISC at lunch times.

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY – Next Friday, 26 October, we will take time to acknowledge and thank our incredible staff with a special ‘treat’ Morning Tea for them to enjoy. We are blessed to have such professional, highly accomplished and loving staff here at Faith and want to make sure they know how special they are. Thank you to each one of our team for serving their calling to our College and the love and care they show our children.

2019 PREP ORIENTATION – is underway next week! Its hard to believe that we are getting so close to the end of the year! We wish our little ones (and their parents) every blessing as they embark on this exciting new journey of school.

PUPIL FREE DAY – A reminder that Monday, 22 October is a Pupil Free Day.

CARDBOARD DONATIONS – we are going to be introducing a new lunch time activity that will give our kids the chance to construct and design using cardboard. To do this we will need cardboard donations (boxes or any card items that are clean). From next week we will have the ‘Design Den’ set up in the Year 1/2 Undercover Area and cardboard can be left in the play area designated with colourful panels. This activity will be introduced over the course of this Term.

Have a great week!Eloise Beveridge and Greg Tagney

STATE HONOURS ENSEMBLE PROGRAM During the last weekend of the holidays 8 students from Faith attended the annual SHEP Program at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University campus.

Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in partnership with local schools, presents five Secondary School (Year 7 to 12) programs - SHEP Capricornia (Rockhampton), SHEP North Queensland (Cairns) SHEP Darling Downs (Toowoomba), SHEP Queensland (State-wide) and the Australian Honours Ensemble Program; six Middle School (Year 5 to 8) programs in Bundaberg, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, Brisbane (South-East Queensland), and Townsville and one primary program (Year 3-6) in Brisbane.

Griffith University. • Successful students will have the opportunity to work in one of four choral groups, four wind orchestras,

two string orchestras, Celtic ensemble and if applicable may be invited by Open Conservatorium to audition for Symphony Orchestra or Big Band.

• Represent their Schools (in full uniform) in a Grand Finale Concert.

Well done to Renae Ashley, Jessica Craddock, Lily Forbes, Alastair Gray, Caitlenn Alsop, Madeleine Boyce, Jorja Goldfinch and Sophie Porter for being accepted into the program this year.

2018 FLCR COLLEGE SPORTS AWARDS (JUNIOR AND SECONDARY SCHOOL)On Tuesday, 16 October Faith held its annual sports awards ceremony. This event recognises the fantastic achievements by our students with the JTAS & GBC Sports program, as well as the Swimming, Cross Country and Athletic Programs and District acknowledgment. This year we also introduced the Principal Recognition Award. This award is an opportunity to also congratulate our students who are involved at a high level of sport outside of the school pathway. It was a wonderful morning presented by Mr Ben Davies and Mr Steve O’Carroll with special guest Jake Packard. Jake is a two times Commonwealth Games and Olympic Breaststroker. In the Rio Olympics he finished 9th in 100m Breaststroke and picked up a bronze in Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay. This year on the Gold Coast he finished 4th in his individual event and picked up gold in the Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay. Jake shared his life/sporting achievements with everyone and was very gracious with his time and remained behind for photos and autographs. For award winners who were absent on Tuesday, their awards will be presented on the following Assembly dates. • Year 12 students – Friday, 26 October• Year 7-11 students – Friday,9 November
