CCSSE & CCFSSE Overview
Community College Survey of Student Engagement
Community College Survey of Student Engagement: A Tool for Community Colleges
CCSSE helps us:
Assess quality in community college education
Identify and learn from good educational practice
Identify areas in which we can improve programs and services for students
Community College Survey of Student Engagement
CCSSE Data Collection ProcessA total of 669 (1% fewer than in 2005) credit students in 67 curriculum courses at the Main campus and the Northern Durham Center (NDC) were surveyed in the spring of 2008.
• A random sample of 67 courses was selected based on class start time
• Excluded Courses:
Noncredit coursesDistance learning coursesLower-level Developmental coursesIndependent study coursesDual-enrollment courses taught at the high schools
Community College Survey of Student Engagement
What is CCFSSE?
The Community College Faculty Survey of Student Engagement:
• Web-based
• Designed to mirror CCSSE to facilitate comparisons between student and faculty responses
Community College Survey of Student Engagement
CCFSSE Data Collection Process
A total of 151 (12% fewer than in 2005) full-time and part-time faculty members completed the CCFSSE in the spring of 2008
• Only faculty members teaching an “included” course in the spring of 2008 were invited to participate
• Faculty members received an e-mail invitation directly from CCSSE facilitators in March 2008
Community College Survey of Student Engagement
Comparison of CCFSSE & CCSSE
• CCFSSE asks faculty members to respond based on a SPECIFIC COURSE they were teaching in the spring of 2008
CCSSE asks students to respond based on experiences at THIS college during THIS (2007-2008) academic year
