Without a proper education and the knowledge I have gained here, I will not be able to control my future. The education, knowledge and experience I acquired during my time in UCSI definitely gave me the confidence and basic knowledge of what I am going to face in the real world. But of course, the best part of all is the recognition I received from companies upon graduation. I would say, all the theory classes I attended in UCSI really did pay off in the end.

UCSI helped in launching my career and confirming my interest in business. I actually put to use the knowledge I gained as a student in my day-to-day tasks where management, marketing and good communication skills, among other things, are required. I value the work-based learning approach and my Co-Op experience because it required me to think critically about the applications of what we learned, and how I would handle problems in actual business set ups.

DID YOU KNOW?In Malaysia, the pepper trade has been under the purview of the Malaysian Pepper Board (MPB) since 2007. The Board’s mission is to implement various policies and programmes to ensure the growth of the plant while promoting its research and usage.

Recognising the level of excellence sustained by UCSI University (UCSI) and the prominence of its Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management (FHTM) in the culinary industry, MPB in 2014 selected UCSI to join them on their crusade.

UCSI has the distinction of being the first university to be given this honour – to promote the usage of pepper in cuisines and other pepper-based products both locally and internationally – by the Board. One of the avenues to achieve MPB’s objective is by representing the Board in cooking competitions and food and beverage (F&B) exhibitions.

TAKING THE NATION FORWARD WITH MyCenTHEUCSI University’s Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management is proud to be part of the national initiative to reshape Malaysia’s tourism and hospitality industry through education. To match the industry’s projected growth, at least 50,000 skilled industry personnel must enter the workforce by 2020 – up from the current 20,000. And to raise the aspiration levels and life chances of these individuals, they need a better education.

To this end, UCSI is heading a consortium of leading hotel schools under the Malaysian Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Education (MyCenTHE) umbrella – a collaborative partnership that was established under Education: Entry Point Project (EPP10) in the

Economic Transformation Programme. MyCenTHE was launched with the aim of providing Malaysia's expanding tourism and hospitality industry with quality human capital. This initiative also seeks to equip at least 50% of all industry personnel with the minimum qualification of a diploma by 2020.

As the champion of EPP10, the Faculty’s work-based learning curriculum is used as the benchmark for other MyCenTHE members. To achieve national impact, clusters are established in each state and the Faculty takes pride in the launch of the first successful hub in Sarawak.
