You are invited as one of the first members of the inaugural class. This is a selective program taught by the nation’s leading professors and deans, as well as, celebrated musicians and performers. The program comprises six courses selected to provide you with greater insight into the disciplines of art, music, English literature, history, business, philosophy and science. ABOUT US Hutton House Lectures at LIU Post is a lifelong learning academy for adult students, offering a culture of excellence, faculty with a breadth of expertise and knowledge, and an idyllic educational setting on the Gold Coast of Long Island. The Certificate in Lifelong Learning is a six-course series taught by highly credentialed thought leaders who teach an eclectic mix of innovative topics. The series is designed to foster critical thinking in a collaborative, student-centered, experiential environment. The certificate is for those students who wish to take their learning to the next level. FACULTY BIOGRAPHIES NATHANIEL BOWDITCH Dr. Bowditch is Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at LIU Post. He received his PhD in 2004 in Philosophy from John Hopkins University and his BA in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. Previously, Dr. Bowditch taught at Johns Hopkins University, Loyola College of Maryland, and Goucher College. Additionally, he joined American University in Cairo, Egypt and taught in the Department of Philosophy, receiving The Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2009. While at AUC, he served as their Associate Dean and then as the Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. After 11 years abroad with his family, Dr. Bowditch returned to New York and joined Long Island University. STEVEN BREESE Currently serving as Dean of the College of Arts, Communications and Design at LIU Post, Breese has enjoyed a national and international acting/directing/playwriting career that has spanned more than 30 years. He holds his MFA from California Institute of the Arts and has acted and/ or directed at many of the nation’s finest theaters including, the Tony Award winning South Coast Repertory Theatre, Dallas Theater Center, Cleveland Playhouse, American Heartland Theatre, Forum Theatre (Chicago), The Royal George Theatre (Chicago), Shakespeare Festival of Dallas, Ft. Worth Shakespeare in the Park, Virginia Stage Company, and other regional theaters/touring companies. As a playwright, Breese has completed over 30 plays including, The Trial of Hamlet (classical courtroom drama), Brotherly Love (contemporary love story), and Actus Fideí (historical fiction). In 2013, he published a book on acting theory and practice titled, On Acting, A Handbook for Today’s Unique American Actor. Breese has also served as Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Southern Connecticut State as well as Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Christopher Newport University in Virginia. TWEED ROOSEVELT Tweed Roosevelt is Chairman of LIU’s Theodore Roosevelt Institute, founded in 2018, and Chief Executive Officer and Immediate Past President of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. Great-Grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, he is a member of one of the oldest and most respected families in the United States. A graduate of Harvard University and Columbia University with a Doctorate of Humane Letters from Misericordia University. Tweed Roosevelt is the chairman of Roosevelt China Investments and has lectured at Harvard, Marshall and Santa Clara Universities on such topics as conservation and the environment, Japanese-American relations and Theodore Roosevelt’s adventures in the American West, Africa and the Amazon. During the Clinton Administration, Tweed Roosevelt led the successful efforts to posthumously award President Theodore Roosevelt the Congressional Medal of Honor, the United States government’s highest military honor. ROB VALLI Dr. Valli received his PhD in Engineering at Cambridge University, his graduate degree at Stanford School of Business and his BA from Berkeley. He is the Dean of the College of Management at LIU Post and professor of technology management. As a former Director of Advertising Innovation at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Dr. Valli’s exposure to Silicon Valley and his scholarly pursuit of new enterprise development, has resulted in a significant international network, enabling the knowledge necessary to propel university innovation and enterprise towards commercialization. Dr. Valli has overseen countless worldwide student consulting engagements spanning Asia, South America, Europe, the Middle East and South Africa. Worthy of note is his hosting of the Global Commission for Advancing Innovation at King’s College (Cambridge) where he gathered philanthropists, investors and chief scientists from Europe, America and Israel. DANIEL HANLEY Dr. Daniel Hanley is Assistant Professor of Biology at LIU Post. He is a leading expert in the field of avian perception, cognition, and decision making. Dr. Hanley has published more than 35 peer-reviewed articles in numerous high-profile scientific journals such as Biologia, the American Naturalist, Audubon, and Science Magazine. He earned a PhD in Biological Science from the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, an M.S. from Bucknell University and a B.S. from Cornell University. A “singer supreme” her credits include “Painter of Dreams,” “A Long Way to Go,” and “Kole Sings Cole” (The Music of Cole Porter) with arranger/composer Richie Iacona. Ms. Kole has been called on to perform for President Bill Clinton, Rudolph Guiliani, President Donald Trump, and other world dignitaries. Freelance pianist, arranger and conductor, RICHIE IACONA has performed with such musical icons as Tommy Tune, Liza Minelli, Diahan Caroll, Vic Damone, and Charles Aznevour. Mr. Iacona is staff arranger for the Rainbow Room Orchestra at Rockefeller Center and the Omni Music Library, which includes music for Tri-Star Pictures, Acura Motors, Folgers Coffee and the USA Cable Network.
