sion,operatorsarenowdevelopingnewapplicationsenablingconsumers

lionsofusers.

Consumersstartbenefitingconcretelyfromconvergencewith

the increase of multiplay packages and the fixed-mobile

convergentoffers.

As Information and CommunicationsTechnologies take an

increasinglyimportantplaceinourlives,wemustensurethat

all people are on board and that consumers are protected

In2005,totalinvestmentinthetelecomssectorinthecountriescovered

byETNOmembershipamounted to49.4billion€.This representedan

increaseof4.4%bycomparisonto2004.Outof this investment,24.5

billion€weredevoted tofixedoperationsand24.9billion€ tomobile

operations.

ThefivemainEuropeanmarkets(Germany,UK,France,ItalyandSpain)

accountfor62%ofthistotalinvestmentbutexpendituregrowthislower

thantheaverage(+1.5%).Investmentshavemainlyincreasedinthefixed

network(+13.7%comparedto10%intheaverage).Investmentinthe

mobilesectorhasgonedownby9.8%inthesefivemainmarketsagainst

areductionofonly0.6%onaverage.

ETNO members account for more than 70% of this total investment

effort.Theyaccountfor85%ofinvestmentinthefixedsectorand56%of

mobileinvestment.ETNOmembershaveinvestedmorethantheaverage

(+6.5%).

InvestmentbyETNOmembers representedonaverage13.5%of their

turnover. The share of revenue devoted to investment has increased

comparedto2004(13.2%).ETNOmembersstillinvestmoreintermsof

revenueshareinthemobileservices(13.8%)thaninthefixed(13.3%).

Bigdifferencescanbeobservedbetweencountries.Generally,operatorsin

newmemberstatestendtodevoteabiggershareofrevenuetoinvestment

than theircounterparts in the "oldmember" states, inparticular in the

mobilesector.

Estimations for 2006In2006,ETNOmembercompanies’totalCAPEXinvestmentisestimatedto37billion€,representing an increase of six per cent compared to2005.ETNO’s41 operators in34Europeancountriesaccountedin2006formorethan70%oftotalinvestmentinthesectorworth51.9billion.

offerhigherspeedandcapacityforsimultaneoususeofexistingandnew

services,suchas:high-definitionTV,interactiveTVprograms,telepho-

nyoverIPandvideoconferencing,instantaneousdownloadsandvideo

viewingonPCsor televisions, high-qualitymusic, videoblogs, secure

DIn2006,KPNconnectedthefirstcustomerstoitsnewAllIPnetwork,

providing themwithextrabandwidthand, in somecases,fiber to the

home.Thecompanyalsoofferstwoservicesforwholesalecustomers.

KPNalsolaunchedvideotelephonyathome.

DLattelecom launchedanumberofnewofferingsboth for individuals

andbusinesscustomers,includinghomeandprofessionalInternet,wire-

lessInternetandIPTelevision.Atripleplayoffer(fixedvoice,Internet

andtelevision)isontheway.

DMagyar Telekom launched new high speed broadband (12M, 18M)

wholesaleoffersADSL2+aswellas“doubleplay”packagesforresi-

dentialcustomerscombiningaflatrateADSLInternetandaphoneline.

MaxADSLHitandaresidentialbroadbandoffercombinedwithaPC

atattractiveprice.MakTelalsooffershighspeedInternetaccessover

fiberinfrastructureforbusinessescustomersandalternativeoperators,

withspeedsupto1Gbit/s.

DONO completed the launch of its Broadband Service.The company

offersa4Mbbroadbandconnectionforresidentialcustomersnation-

wide.

DPortugal TelecomlaunchedseveralnewservicessuchasSAPOADSL

free,a4MbpsbroadbandconnectionforfixedlineandcableTVservices’

customers,a8Mbpsbroadbandconnection(ADSL2+)anda1,8Mbps

connectionformobileusers.ForthebusinesssegmentPTlauncheda

24Mbpsofferand,forclientswithbasicandsporadicneeds,PThasa

newofferwith256Kbps.PTWiFihasprovidedwirelessinternetforthe

DigitalProjectofÉvoracity.

DRomtelecom has launched ADSL BizPack, a broadband Internet

accessoverADSLtechnology,withaspeedof4096Kbpsdownload/
